A great small establishment that cares about service as much as the food and both are very good! The staff was very welcoming from the very start and it created a very nice evening not to mention that the food in this small restaurant was also worth the trip. If you are in Spokane I would highly recommend that you include it for one of your dinners.

Had a great "preshow" dinner before seeing "Book of Mormon". The service was very friendly and quick without feeling rushed. No problems with special requests on one of our orders. Love the location since we always stop by Auntie's bookstore before a show at the INB! We had the pasta with prawns, the chicken pesto tortellini and the lamb. All three dishes were fantastic! Nice wine list and a very delicious huckleberry margarita. Also, quite reasonable for 3 people. I expected the tab to be at least $30 more than it was. Very impressed all around!

The Shrimp Creole appetizer was the best shrimp dish I have ever had in Spokane. The had a very reasonably priced Argentinian Malbec on the wine list. It was a great accompinament to the steak. We will definitely be back.

I found Herbal Essence through reviews on Open Table. What a lovely accident! The service was good but unobtrusive. The food was absolutely perfect. The drink was strong, tasty and unique. My husband had a steak with a topping of crab, shrimp and cheddar. I had herb crusted salmon with a pomegranate reduction. Everything, including the sides, was delicious. We will be back!

I went to Herbal Essence after hearing of their reputation and, specifically for the Beef Wellington. I had never had Beef Wellington and wanted to try it after seeing the dish multiple times on Hell's Kitchen. I was not disappointed, even tho I have no reference point from which to measure. The beef was cooked exactly to my desired temperature and the filo dough and filling was delicious. My wife ordered the shrimp linguine, which also proved to be very tasty. The environment of the restaurant is warm and charming and the waitress provided excellent service. My only concern after this first visit was how quiet it was on a Saturday night. I can only hope this was only an anomaly and this restaurant has long term success.

This place was a fun location to try out on a Groupon. It is easier to take a chance when you are getting a discount. We were seated right away at a table by the window, and it was private and quiet. We found many delectable options on the menu, but ended up with salmon for me and a steak and brie salad for my husband. The food was wonderful, fresh and delicious. We shared a piece of caramel apple pie for dessert and that was a great way to end our time out together. It was a lovely respite from a crazy schedule and great food and atmosphere as well. I especially liked Bob the jellyfish and the variety of interesting art on the walls as well. We would certainly return for a future date night and try some other options from the menu.

Came here with a groupon. Was very excited to try my first wellington but the pastry was incredibly soggy and the meat overcooked. Not worth 26 dollars. My wife's chicken dish was decent but wouldn't return based on the quality of the wellington.

The food, service and location are top notch! I recommend bringing a flashlight though, it is so dark, and the font on the menu so small it is difficult read. We had to take turns going to the fish tank to try to read off of the light within it.

Steak was flavorful, though it was warm-to-cool, rather than hot. Beef wellington was made to order, even though not offered that night. The clam chowder was thinner than most, but very flavorful. Overall, the ambience was lacking - very dark walls with mostly cheap furnishings and cheap fake plants, a central structural room divider that does not extend to the ceiling - tacky, and a huge fish tank with a beautiful jelly fish, but the many many cords coming off the side of the tank made the decoration more of an eyesore. Waitress was friendly, but not memorably great. We probably wouldn't go back, unless it were lunchtime and we were craving clam chowder. A bill of 70+tip was excessive for the warm-to-cool food and poor ambience.

I took my wife here to celebrate a special occasion and we were not disappointed. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. She had the rack of lamb and I went with the buffalo steak. Both were served with sauteed vegetables and mashed potatoes. Everything was cooked to order and I have no complaints about the food. For dessert I had the creme brulé and she had the triple chocolate cake. The creme brulé was served with sliced strawberries which was a welcome addition, the cake was good but not noteworthy. The only thing I didn't like was that the restaurant was so dim that I had trouble reading my menu.

This is, by far, my favorite restaurant. I have never had a poor experience, whether it be the food or the wait staff. There is always something new and interesting on the menu. Everyone there is very friendly, including the owner, who will cook you a delicious meal and chat at your table. I have recommended this restaurant to some of my customers, and had them come back to thank me because they enjoyed it so much. You cannot go wrong with Herbal Essence.

I walked away feeling like we paid too much. Then thinking about it, nothing seemed overpriced, so what was the problem? First, I don't think the waitress really had a good concept of the menu. The atmosphere itself wasn't up to "fancy" specifications, and for $100+ for a meal for two, a place better be fancy. I could have gone to Churchill's or Spencer's for a similar price (maybe $15-20 more). They just felt out of their league really...the food was very good though.

This is an attractive small restaurant with a fine bar and excellent food. I had the halibut which was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. I'm from Hawaii and this fish was as fresh and tasty as what I'm accustomed to. Dessert was a not-too-sweet take on apple pie and it was light and spiced to perfection. It was terrific to find a restaurant that knows how to use spices appropriately - both sweet and savory! The name "Herbal Essence" is apropos. I can't wait to go back on my next Spokane visit.

The beef wellington was under seasoned and they place a brown gravy on the pastry, this takes away from the flaky layer. the layer in-between the beef and pastry did not seem to have the needed fat layer. The Halibut was also under seasoned. Both dishes had excellent sides. We also had the clam chowder and it tasted good but it was a little nontraditional and I liked it. The crab cakes as a side tasted excellent but they were an odd number. The drinks and wines were good and you get your moneys worth. The art on the wall is for sale and it was beautiful. Our waitress forgot to offer the specials and seemed to a little off that night, so we give her the benefit of the doubt. The serving sizes were perfect.

    Dined on 7/26/2013
Traveling through Spokane, searched OpenTable for a restaurant with local flavor and Herbal Essence sounded like the right fit. The food and setting were great, but the service was from it. Our server didn't come to our table to take our order until 15 minutes after we were seated and we waited an add'l 15 minutes for our appetizer salads. This lack of attention continued throughout the serving of our entrees and taking care of our bill. All tables around us were treated the same way and could see they were frustrated with the lack of attentino too. Having great food, but poor service will not build a repeat customer base.
