Once seated, though, our server was attentive and helpful. And then the food arrived. I had the duck breast and confit thigh -- scented with maple and smoke, it was delectable. The green beans I got as a side were crunchy-tender, just the way I like them. The Boston Cream Pie was smooth and thick, but not too sweet. Charles Hotel is lovely and this is the 'other' restaurant.
Rialto is one of the best and we eat there on special occassions but Henrietta's is our destination when we need to be in Cambridge and want food that is a little more low key and delicious and farm fresh from the high end duck, veal, beef, pork, chicken to the famous sides that are seasonal so always fresh - I had braised lamb shank (from a local farm) with sides of asparagus, mashed potatoes, green beans and salad. EXCELLENT wine (2 bottles!!) and we all shared the chocolate banana bread pudding.

It was a very nice experience: the food was great, the service just right -- not too hovering, but there when we needed it. The decor of the restaurant is country elegant. Our knowledgeable server was attentive, but not obtrusive throughout the eventing. Perhaps this is the natural trajectory of a restaurant so successful that it gets sold by its founder to a more remote owner. My wife had the lamb shank, which was in the form of a ragout.. She enjoyed it, though she expected more of a bone-in dish. I had the duck, which was excellent. The dry cider accompanied it well. I think that it was the best of the four meals, though my 13-year-old who had the pot roast declared that it was the best meal that he'd ever had. My 16-year-old had the corn-crab chowder and then crab cakes, which were good. There were scallions in the crab-cakes, which I thought added a nice crisp taste to the crab. The salads and desserts that we had were wonderfully fresh, and the meals evoked 'home cooking' and 'fresh garden'.
