A word from Henri
From the creators of The Gage comes Henri — energetically American, French influenced.   Heralded as an "instant classic", Henri offers fine dining without pretention.
Under the direction of Executive Chef Chris Gawronski, Henri’s menu is influenced by the refining principles of classical cuisine. Innovative dishes like kampachi crudo join traditional favorites such as foie gras, steak tartare, bouillabaisse, and ribeye au poivre. The tasting menu highlights the bounty of the season, accompanied by perfectly paired wines by sommelier Jon McDaniel. Spirits Director Mike Page's cocktails are both creative and classic.
Reminiscent of a European salon, Henri provides an elegant respite from bustling Michigan Avenue.

Diner Reviews
  • "While the aps were very good, half of my pheasant (bland and rubbery) entre and half of my wifes Goose (undercooked and impossible to chew) entre were absolutley inedible. I was rather shocked and would not give them a second try. Also, we went early and although the restaurant had plenty of free seats, we felt very rushed. We were asked if we were ready to order probably 8 times in the first 15 minutes. I do like the food at the Gage so this was a surprise. "

  • "Our second time dining at Henri. This time we ordered off the menu instead of the tasting menu as we weren't that hungry and the tasting menu is a lot of food. The service is excellent. My martini while simple was done to perfection and my wife's suggested drink was also a hit. We can't wait for warmer weather to sit outside. "

  • "For a lovely restaurant, the food could be much better. My fish was undercooked and my husbands lamb was uninspiring.the wine list was very limited. They could and should do much better. Wait staff was rushed and inattentive I would not go back."

  • "Henri is simply a gem. Having dined there several times, with friends as well as business colleagues, it has never disappointed or negatively surprised me. I love this place."

  • "An outstanding dining experience. Excellent food. Impeccable service. In the heart of Chicago, across Michigan Avenue from Millennium Park. What more could you ask for?"

  • "I had dinner at Henri a year ago and it was delicious. I was very excited to take my out of town guests to a wonderful Chicago restaurant. The food was horrible, from the appetizers through the meal."

  • "We absolutely loved our dinner at Henri. The food was terrific, wait staff professional, and the decor and dining room vibe easy elegance. Don't miss it."

  • "Not often does one get the adjectives in the review to apply to all aspects of the experience. In this case every element of the meal was gracious and elegant – service, setting, food and ambience. One very minor flaw: there seem to be a series of phone people acting like 'overseers' milling around through the tables during the meal in a way that was too conspicuous for our party's taste"

  • "A really excellent dining experience. Outstanding, elegant ambience, service and menu. Food presentation, cocktail and wine selection all perfect. Entree portions small except for the salads which were huge. Perfect for the special client business lunch."

  • "My visit to Henri was nothing short of amazing and exceptional - I felt like a VIP for the first time ever in a restaurant. The ambiance is beautiful, private and hushed, the food is absolutely divine and the service is as white-glove as it gets! I recommend the fois gras - it was beyond words!"

  • "While on a recent trip to Chicago, we wanted to celebrate a good friend's birthday. After some research we chose Henri and in our OpenTable reservation noted that this was a birthday dinner along with the name of the guest. We were a party of 5. We knew we were in for a great dinner when we arrived, saw a very nicely prepared table for the five of us along with customized menus honoring the birthday celebrant. The atmosphere was great, the service very friendly and helpful - and just as importantly the food was absolutely loved by all of us. The evening was a tremendous success so thank's go to Henri for making this a very special evening."

  • "This was our first experience with Henri and it was a wonderful one. The room is well appointed and comfortable. We went for lunch and found that the menu was limited but everything on the menu was something I wanted to try. Our waitress was very good at matching the selected entree with glasses of wine. We will be returning maybe to try dinner."

  • "If you are looking for a quiet, elegantly decorated restaurant with great food, wine and service, try Henri. Service is friendly and professional. There is a nice selection of French-inspired dishes that are consistently flavorful, beautifully presented and creative. The tasting menu is always a treat."

  • "First off, I think Henri is the prettiest restaurant in the city. It defines civilized dining. I took a very good friend there for birthday lunch and she was just wowed by the service and the decor. The only thing - and it might have been what we ordered - is that the food did not quite live up to the atmosphere and stellar service. My entree was a mushroom duxelles sandwich, which turned out to be three slices of good bread topped with good mushrooms, and, sadly, some kind of congealed cheese. The sandwich wasn't warm and it wasn't cold - I wasn't sure what temperature it was supposed to be served at. I had ice cream for dessert and the pear variety had icicles in it. As said, a nice memorable lunch - just one without memorable food."

  • "Excellent location on South Michigan next door to The Gage. Early dinner here made it convenient to get to 7:30 Opera performance. Waiter was outstanding; very knowledgeable. Food was very good, but not outstanding. Overpriced a bit in comparison with options next door at The Gage. Very quiet, which we appreciated. Given the prices, we are not certain that we would return. We expect something special at $80.00 per person without wine."

  • "Delicious food from the appetizers to the dessert. Cocktails were delicious. Did not try the wine. Wait staff was super knowledgable regarding menu options and able to provide recommendations. Very attentive service with a great ambiance. Much quieter than the average dining location these days which allowed conversation to flow!"

  • "We happened upon Henri. It is near the AIC and downtown loop. It is great for a nice lunch or dinner. Service attentive, dishes inventive and many good choices. One of our go to restaurants whenever we visit Chicago."

  • "Food and service was exceptional! Lovely, elegant decor; wonderful large windows looking out onto Michigan Ave. We tried the Chef's small-plate seven course dinner with wine pairings. It was expensive, but outstanding in every way. Both our server and the sommelier were very knowledgable and friendly. We will definitely return to Henri!!!"

  • "We always love stepping into the world of Henri. It is an elegant escape from the hustle and bustle of the city outside. We always feel like we are special guests though we know that is just the way it is at Henri. Most importantly, dinner is always delicious!"

  • "Henri is a great place for fine dining in an upscale, but not stuffy, atmosphere. Consistently excellent food and service and a top-notch cocktail program and good wine list. The tasting menu is always a good choice, but we have never been disappointed in a a la carte selection, either. Very convenient choice for a pre-theater dinner if you are going to a play in the theater district."

  • "My husband and I treated ourselves to a pre-dinner concert at this gem. We were blown away by every aspect from the food, to the cocktails, to the amazing services and were left wanting nothing more. From start to finish this was an amazing meal. We can't wait to return."

  • "Our table was not available when we arrived so the maitre'd graciously took us over to the Gage where we had a cocktail courtesy of the restaurant. It was a lovely thing to do and made us feel like valued customers. The food was delicious and the service unobtrusive but very friendly. It was a special dining experience."

  • "It's very pricey, so it's not for everyday. It'll be saved up for special occasion. The food was very good, very tasty."

  • "Went to Henri for a birthday and had a wonderful meal and experience. Lovely small dining room that is quiet and comfortable; attentive staff. Food was extraordinary - oysters from east and west coast were incredibly fresh. Shared the rabbit, pheasant, and fish dishes. All were served with interesting accompaniments such as lentils, sauce vert, demi glace and all were delicious. Complex platings make it special as obvious attention to detail goes into every dish."

LOOKING OUT THRU A SNOW STORM AT THE COLORFUL SCULPTURE ACROSS THE STREET IN MILLENNIUM PARK WAS REMINISCENT OF OUR EXPERIENCE IN ST. PETERSBERG RUSSIA LOOKING OUT AT ST. • "I can't say enough good things about the food, drinks and service. We've eaten here many times and they never fail to impress in every visit. One of the very special destinations for dinner in Chicago."

  • "The valet parking service is not located at the restaurant, but rather around a corner near the University of Chicago Club on Monroe--one-way streets make this challenging. We had trouble attracting the attention of our waiter. The appetizer course was bad--the escargot was chewy and drowning in sauce on soggy toast; the carpaccio was also inexplicably dressed in sauce and toast. The mains were better--the beef was excellent; the sturgeon was fine; the rabbit cassoulet was good. The cafe dessert soufflé was lovely, but no one bothered to offer coffee or anything else for the dessert course. So it was a curious place where three grown men with crumb combs hurried to the table after each course, but our waiter was hard to find."

  • "Intimate and plush. Relaxing ambience. Very classy and yet warm and welcoming. Top notch staff. Had green salad and rabbit cassoulet with souffle for dessert. Can't get much more French than that. The salad was refreshing and had lots of crisp, tangy frisee, tossed with a vinaigrette that lightly flavored every bite. The cassoulet was most refined...almost deconstructed...with the beans that were tender but still had a bit if bite. The meats were luscious and juicy. Souffle outstanding as well. Impressive wine lust as well as cocktail specialties. Fellow diners equally pleased with their escargot, pheasant and duck. Superb French-style dining."

  • "We moved to Chicago from New York City 18 months ago. The moment we arrived we've been overwhelmed with the friendliness and welcoming we've received. The moment we walked into Henri (15 minutes late) we were greeted with warmth and a big smile. If late in NYC chances are our table would be gone. The restaurant itself is beautiful. It's sophistaced elegance is readily evident. Our server Michael could not have been nicer. While dining we met Billy, Henri's owner. His greeting and banter made us feel that we were guests in his home. The food was delicious and creative. Especially the coffee souffle. Our dinner was quicker than we would have liked because we were going to the symphony. However, we will return again and often."

  • "It's a very relaxing place to have a dinner spending more time than usual. Foods are not classy French more like fusion. I liked appetizers much better than the entree."

  • "With the exception of perennial glory Everest, one simply does not expect particularly fine dining in the Loop, but here comes "Henri," a true surprise. The restaurant serves elegant, perfectly prepared dishes using only the finest ingredients. The room is comfortable, with clean visual lines and a simple charm. The service is warm and friendly, yet professional in that Frenchie sort of way. The wine list is modest in size, but cleverly put together. The entire staff treats patrons impecably. The location is extraordinarily convenient, walking distance from the Goodman, Palace and Ford Theaters, Orchestra Hall, and the opera. The view of Milenium Park is nice."
