A word from Helga's German Restaurant & Deli
Established in 1989 as a mother-daughter venture, Helga's German Restaurant and Deli began as a small, four-table restaurant. Today, Helga's has expanded but has not departed from its humble beginnings, gathering a loyal foundation of consistently satisfied customers.
The owners and friendly staff of Helga's aim to provide you with the best German dining and shopping experience at reasonable prices. We encourage you to browse our deli featuring fresh German meats, cheeses and breads, as well as the bakery, which offers an assortment of Chef Stefan's cheesecakes and strudels and Susan's specialty tortes when visiting Helga's.
Helga, Herbert and family maintain a warm and friendly environment where you can sit down to a delicious home-style German meal with family and friends. In the true spirit of a family-owned restaurant, Helga and Herbert are directly involved in ensuring the satisfaction of each and every one of their customers.

If you like German food and/or German beer, this is the place to go in Aurora. If you're not familiar with German food, you have got to try Helga's. I love their Chicken Schnitzel, Spaetzle, and Sauteed Squash. Recently we went with a group of 8. We loved the coziness and set up made visiting with each other a great experience. Everyone ordered something different and there were no complaints. Service was exceptional.

We really enjoyed our experience at Helga's and will definitely be back. Everyone in our party had the schnitzel and loved it. We highly recommend the apple strudel as it is worth the trip for just the dessert! The only reason I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars is the service was a tad slow (they were extremely busy) and the seats were very uncomfortable. But overall, what a wonderful dinner experience.

First time at this restaurant. Love German Food and Helga's did not disappoint! For an appetizer we had the Pfalzer pretzel for 2. The pretzel was warm and the mustard was very good. For dinner, I ordered the Breaded Schnitzel with the red cabbage and spatzel, and my dining partner ordered the Jager Schnitzel (both were pork). The gravy was really good and I loved the red cabbage. Definitely go to Helga's with an appetite! Tons of good comfort food and the service was excellent! I HIGHLY recommend Helga's!

I made our reservation after reading the trip advisor reviews. My friend is from Germany and also had been to Helga's and said the food was fantastic. We arrived promptly at 5:30 and were seated right away, the manager said he was expecting us. We each had the schnitzel and red cabbage it was wonderful. Nice eating establishment.

We are a family of schnitzel lovers who went to Helga's to celebrate a birthday. First, with 10 of us in the extended family, it's great to be able to get a reservation on a Friday night at a moderately priced restaurant. We ordered beer samplers with pretzels to start- a fun way to try German beers without the commitment to a giant glass. Everyone loved their schnitzels- they have all varieties and sauces. Those who ordered brats were quite pleased as well. The sauerkraut was outstanding. My only small complaint is that I think the spaetzel was dried, not fresh made on site. It might be asking too much for fresh. We will definitely be back!

My boyfriend and I were celebrating his birthday and was greeted by a nice smiling young lady that seated us at a nice table. The waiter appeared quickly also smiling, he offered suggestions and tips , which by the way we're satisfying. It was a quiet filling dining experience. We agreed that we will return, try it and enjoy.

The food was decent, but the ambience, service and noise level were not up to par. The woman at the table next to us complained to her date, about her food, the entire meal, which didn't help our experience. I so wished the waitress had just comped their meal so she would stop her incessant complaining. The young girl in the deli area touched raw meat with a glove, then took money with the gloved hand then touched raw meat again. The manager was very alarmed when I politely explained the safety issues there. Wouldn't drive the 35 minutes to visit again. It's too bad because there is potential.

We were seated at a dirty table. So, we moved to the bar. I created my own deli sandwich, and it was so-so. The farmers ride bread was difficult to eat. It also made my sandwich fall a part. Schnitzel and spatzle and red cabbage were pretty good according to the person I was with. Service could wake up a little Other than that, it was a pretty good lunch.

This dining experience was just my husband and I using a groupon I had recently purchased. The food here is always great and the service is top notch as well. We dined on a variety of german cold salads, a pretzel and potato pancakes for appetizers. We split a schnizel dinner and it was fantastic as well as the cobbler we had for dessert. Will definitely be returning soon and highly recommend reservations for weekend evening!

The food is very good and I really enjoy it every time we go here. The only reason I rate the service level low is not due to the waitstaff but the hostess. She was very rude and said she did not have our reservation because the person who receives these "no longer works there". She then left to go talk to a manager to see if she could seat us. I was less than impressed with how rude and unaccommodating she was considering it was not our issue that they did not have access to these notifications. So if you do decide to make reservations please make sure that you call the restaurant ahead and make sure they receive it. As many of the other reviewers pointed out they add a 15% gratuity as well.

While on a business trip and stuck behind road construction in Aurora hotel, we found this restaurant through an OT search. Fun atmosphere, good German beers, and great traditional schnitzel with red cabbage. There was some confusion about our reservation but all ended well when we found a seat in the bar area. If you like German food, this is a great find.

The food was good. My complaint is that they add 15% "service fee" and failed to point it out knowing we were leaving a 20% tip already. After I realized what they did, I called to complain and suggest that they let people know verbally, they said the 15% "service fee" doesn't go directly to the waiter and that he didn't get a 35% tip after all. Like that was supposed to make it ok!

Met friends there for dinner. Took a long time to bring the dinner out. Very expensive. They did not record my opentable appearance and actually marked it as a cancel. It was supposed to be "authentic german" but it was about as authentic as "american" is when you're visiting mexico. Chicken was overcooked and they butterflied the chicken-breast so it was really about half of the breast, not a whole one, or they use small chicken breasts. Could have gone to any number of other places for half the price and had comparable or better food. This is one of the very rare instances where an opentable booked restaurant was disenchanting.

I went there hoping for an 80% approximation of German food. I got 20% authentic instead. The spaezle weren't even hand-made but rather just boiled pasta noodles! (and REAL spaetzle is EASY! There's no excuse). The german potato salad lacked the requisite vinegar and sugar and bacon fat. Disappointing overall. I've had better German food in the Bahnhof.

While it was a bit busy when we arrived, it wasn't that busy midway into our meal and after. our waitress was less than attentive, not checking back as well as not appearing so we could pay and we had to seek her out. She was friendly enough, just lackadaisical. We like the food but wouldn't return for it particularly. Portions are generous and nicely presented, as well as good homey German food. Of course, having the beer choices was fun. We probably wouldn't go back, however. We have friends for whom it's their favorite restaurant and the crowds attested to that, so patrons should try it for themselves.

Helga's does not profess to be high-end Euro cuisine. It serves classic, well-made German dishes in large portions with fresh, quality ingredients, or so it tastes. Some you can even place as a half order. I lived in Germany for 12 years, so am very familiar with with schnitzels and Sauerbraten, and Haxe. My Jaeger Schnitzel was tasty and covered with mushrooms which I mixed indiscriminately with my sides of spaetzle and rotkohl. It was of a quality that one would find in a decent German cafe or schnitzelhaus. The ambience was pleasant, with its half-timber Alpine lodge effect. The waitstaff were very friendly and our server, Carol, was very knowledgable about the beers they served. Will definitely return.

Agree with a previous reviewer that this is good, classic German food. Not high end Euro. And it hits the spot. Our waiter was friendly and helpful and service was good - even though we showed up in the middle of Groupon dinner rush. I would definitely go back and bring friends to enjoy some good old fashioned German food. I had the Kassler Ripchen with Rotkohl (red cabbage). Yum. And beer, of course.

I am so happy I discovered Helga's German Restaurant, thanks to Groupon. The beers my friend and I tried, the Weissbier and the Kostritzer black lager, were both delicious and authentic. The food was wonderful! I highly recommend the blaukraut (red cabbage) - second only to my Oma's! Our food was a bit salty, but very tasty nonetheless. Our only regret was that we ordered so much food we didn't have room for dessert! Next time we'll have to split an entree. The service was attentive and friendly. After our meal I picked up some calve's liverwurst from the deli - a tough-to-find delicacy I'll be taking home to my mother in Chicago. Wonderful overall, and I can't wait to bring all my friends back for beer and pretzels!
