Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent menu selections. Fresh and impeccably prepared."

  • "Our fourth dining experience here and it keeps getting better. Greens salad, lobster appetizer, cauliflower steak, and the lamb were all...wow! The service has declined with the personable chef Paris off tending to his new resturant; every employee in the place felt the need to come to our table. It was a non-stop parade. One obscure lab actually said: "we try to touch every customer." It was like being on stage in the middle of a local play. People, you're all nice, but less is more. Touch each other and give the customers some peace."

  • "The service was outstanding from beginning to end. This restaurant has been highly recommended and my wife and I went for a mid-week birthday dinner. We had two appetizers. The crab cake was stringy rather than true lump and on the dry side. I am a lobster claw fan and found only tiny bits of lobster and not a recognizable claw. My wife's strip steak was streaked with gristle, on the tough side and caused her to have to reject inedible meat back to the plate. My duck breast was the best item at the dinner, properly rare with a crispy fat crust but accompanied by a patty of foie gras boudin that was mediocre and not a great accompaniment to the duck. The restaurant has chef who neeeds guidance so this restaurant can improve it's quality."

  • "We dined at Heirloom on a Thursday night where the restaurant was slow, and the JV waitstaff team must have been assigned to our table. Our server (once he arrived at our table after 15 minutes of staring around the restaurant) did nothing but "recommend" the 4 highest-priced menu items - after admitting to us that he was unfamiliar with the menu. All three courses were excellent and well presented. Considering there were only 3 other tables occupied, we don't know where MrJV was hiding all night. I guess since it was a slow night, MrJV just wasn't that interested in us. The rest of the service team actually made us feel more cared-for than MrJV. The food is what will bring us back, however. Maybe we'll get the Varsity Team next time."

  • "We are lucky to have such a dedicated restaurant in northwest Philadelphia. We dined there during a transitional week from the winter menu to the spring menu;as a result, the selection was quite limited (only a few entrees and only two desserts available). So I recommend calling ahead of time to ask about menu availability - the one downside to Heirloom's "locavore" approach."

  • "The brunch options here were really good and unique with lots of variety. The Bloody Mary mix is good and spicy with the perfect amount of horseradish, but it was missing a garnish of some sort. We will definitely be back to try dinner."

  • "My husband and I have been here on several occasions and have never been disappointed. We love the creativity and effort that goes into the presentation of the meals. Wait staff are knowledgeable and attentive. Highly recommend it!"

  • "Love, love love Heirloom! My first experience even though we live nearby. The food was great and there were many dishes I want to try at another time. Keep up the good work!"

  • "Food excellent. Salads and Appetizers excellent. Fish dishes wonderful. Chicken dish was sparse on the chicken. Came home and ate a sandwich. VERY VERY VERY LOUD/NOISY"
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "Great food but so loud one couldn't have a conversation without yelling. The level of noise was quite uncomfortable. A shame because the food was very good."

  • "My wife and I were sharing our fifth wedding anniversary, and a friend recommended Heirloom. We weren't disappointed at all. The service was good, and the food was delicious, but a bit overpriced. The bring your own bottle policy is a good one, and the atmosphere is romantic enough. We'd go back, but only for a special occasion."

  • "My friend strongly recommended this restaurant. Perhaps too much of the staff was sent to their new restaurant. I remembered why I recognized Arctic char after it came out as the fish a waiter at a different restaurant had the foresight to mention that despite its name was a fish more similar to salmon, which I generally don't like. Peppers were included in the short rib and kale but were not included on the description. Will maybe give it another shot sometime but overall really disappointed"

  • "Our service was outstanding, and they went above and beyond to accommodate us when we showed up without wine (the liquor store next door is closed for the next 3 months). That said, 2 ouf of 3 dishes were over salted. The Brisket was great, but the crab cake and char were swimming in salt. The next day we had lunch at Reading Station and that food experience was much more memorable for a fraction of the price. Next time, leave the salt shaker on the table and not in the hands of the chef."

  • "Dinner was a real treat. We like to choose places where we wouldn't and can't replicate the dishes at home. Each plate was meticulously prepared and was very tasty. The squeeze bottle sauces were pretty to view, but I certainly would have preferred to have my salad dressing premixed and equally distributed among the ingredients! The lighting was lovely and we felt very romantic only a few blocks from home!"

  • "Have been to Heirloom multiple times since it's opening, but this was the first time back since owner and executive chef opened Paris Bistro down the hill. With him splitting time between two restaurants, there was no noticeable drop off in quality or execution of food, or in service. Heirloom performed just as expected. I started with the Caesar salad, had a nice bite and the anchovies were perfect, not overpowering in the least. The salad was followed by the striped bass with scallops, both were cooked perfectly. Glad to see that opening a new place hasn't slowed down Heirloom in the least."

  • "I thought the choices for entrees bordered on wierd/exotic. I ordered the Amish chicken whick was a little dry and the lentils were way too salty. My dinner mate ordered the wild boar and found it to be way to much meat. Then if you want a veggie, you have to pay extra for a side! Thank goodness its byob or this restaurant would not make my list."

  • "Went here on sunday between church services for a quick bite. The food was good once we got it. The only down side is my potatoes were cold but they fixed it fairly quickly. Table service was less than warming and welcoming but I will make the excuse that they were setting up tables for dinner service. Overall I would return again. My squash bisque was absolutely the best thing I had there"

  • "It was my birthday, and I reserved a table for brunch for me and my girlfriends. We were the lingering annoying table that stayed long after we were finished eating, polishing off the last bottle of champagne we had brought with us. The staff and management were beyond kind and accommodating, I have worked in the restaurant business for years and know how annoying our table could be...but Heirloom still went above and beyond and made our experience awesome! Not the mention the food is incredible!!!"

  • "We've taken several people to Heirloom and all have come away impressed, including ourselves. The food is consistently good, and they are always solicitous about how dinner went, was it to our satisfaction, etc. Parking is easy in the lot in the back. Can't say enough about how good this place is."

  • "The food here was mediocre. My wife can cook a much better meal. The "spicy" tuna appetizer wasn't even spicy. The sauce was sweet and uninspired - no subtlety. The arctic char and sea scallops were dried out, as if they'd been reheated or perhaps just overcooked. The service wasn't good. Out waitress disappeared several times for too long, and was awkward and lacking confidence. At the end of the night, she forgot to bring me the doggy bag I had requested, and then spent 10 minutes looking for it to no avail. Will not go back."

  • "We don't usually dine out in the middle of the week, but the restaurant sent us a Restaurant Week Special that motivated us to get a sitter on a school night. The hostess seemed annoyed when we asked for their promotional menu. We were a party of four and she said we had to share one menu. We were also disappointed when the salad on menu was not available and another salad was not allowed. It not that the waitress told us were had to order off the main menu if we wanted a salad. It's how she said it. We've been there before, but the others in our party have not. We will be ignoring promotional emails. But the food was great, as always."

  • "Five friends enjoyed a wonderful winter night's dinner. Our server was lovely, allowing us to catch up, and pacing the meal beautifully. The ginger-butternut squash soup was especially delicious. For entrees we tried the chicken, arctic char, duck, and butternut squash Wellington, and would recommend the duck the highest, but all were delicious. Our chatter was a little lively for this usually subdued spot, but we had a fabulous time regardless."

  • "We had been frequent patrons of Heirloom since it opened however we hadn't been in a few months. We were really disappointed in the level of service and the food. Our boar was dried out and terrible and we had to ask the wait staff, repeatedly, for missed items, utensils, etc. Sadly, I don't think we'll be heading back any time soon. The prices are too high for the poor service and disappointing meals."

  • "brunch with friends. Great food service and quiet enough for good conversation"

  • "This was my first time at Heirloom and shared an outstanding meal here. I usually do not partake in the bread baskets at most places, but the corn bread muffins and biscuits were delicious (and perfect for dipping into the very flavorful gumbo that comes with the shrimp and crab cake app). The short rib dish recommended to me by the waitress did not disappoint - it had a very meaty flavor and was also quite tender. Can't wait to come back!"
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "We've been here 3 times now in 7months. The service is excellent, the cornbread is to die for! This particular time the chef came to our table to ask how everything was. Everyone is concerned that you are enjoying your meal. The chop salad is the best around! A must try! Ty!"

  • "Wonderful ambience and friendly staff. And BYOB. But, from quality ingredients to inventive and tempting menu choices, we expected a delightful meal. We were so disappointed. Clearly the concept of "flavor" escaped the notice of the kitchen staff. Even salt and pepper would be a nice addition. But, if you want a healthy, low-sodium, no-spice, no-flavor experience, then this is the place for you."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "The terrible service started from the very beginning with us receiving different menus, some current, some from months back. We were bothered over and over at first to put our order in and then after we did, whatever request we had to the server, seemed to upset her. Not only would she express frustration, she would walk away, shaking her head and gesturing to the other staff members and this request was for cream for our coffee. I wouldn't go back."
    Dined on 3/2/2014
  • "The service was impeccable and the food was phenomenal. We were not sure about the level of spice of the gumbo, so the server very quickly went and grabbed a taste for me and glad I did. It was good but not my level of comfort with spice. The attention to service was great and the food was superb!!"

  • "This was my 3rd time dining at Heirloom. I understand that it is a "farm to table" dining experience however I had early dinner reservations (6:30) and of the 8 entrees on the menu they were out of 4. The four remaining were good but not in my top 3 of choices. I opted for a salad and appetizer (dinner size) and was happy with my selection."
