Heirloom Restaurantgreat meal -- service wasgreat meal -- service was super....and it was a tad quieter than usual...whew~ will return soon, hopefully!6/16/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't go wrong! The food was quite good. The barrata cheese was the best i ever had. I ordered sole without the garlic butter sauce , which minimized the taste. My fault. Next time I wlll take the sauce on the side. A friend chose faux gras as the main course. Too rich for me as a course, but a taste was outstanding.
I definitely recommend!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing foodI swear this is one of the best meals I have ever had. My companion said the same. We shared an app, ate some of each other's dishes and split the apple pie filled doughnut for dessert, taking the chocolate cake home for breakfast the next morning. I have never had food taste so good before - and that's saying something.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGood but expensiveVery good service. Chef stopped by to ask us how things were. Lamb and braised ribs good -- sole very dry and tasteless (asked for it without butter). Lovely deserts.
Very expensive even as BYOB.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMjust as good as the last timeWe have eaten here, now about 5 times, and we've never been disappointed. Food: outstanding. Service: efficient and attentive, but not overly attentive. Looking forward to the next visit, already!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden Gem!What a wonderful little restaurant! Nestled among a group of other small stores and restaurants and located in the Top of the Hill building, this was a great experience. I met other friends there who had a bit of a problem finding the place, but beyond that, everyone had a super time. The ambiance is calm and a bit romantic, you are surrounded by a lot of greenery and trees, which is typical of the Chestnut Hill area. Both the Chef and the restaurant manager stopped by the table. The food is very good - we had the salmon, the braised short ribs and kale, & crab salad. I will DEFINITELY be back. A lovely experience to share with others.
P.S. Heirloom is a BYOB, and there is a liquor store right down the way from the restaurant.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Night OutThis is our third visit to Heirloom, and each experience has been an extremely enjoyable one. It was my husband's birthday and we were joined by friends. One is a gourmet chef and it was his first time to dine at Heirloom. He was very complimentary and enjoyed his meal immensely, as the rest of us did.
The wait staff is extremely attentive and the ambience is lovely. All in all, our dining experience was outstanding, and being a BYOB is a real plus!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOut of the ordinary , butOut of the ordinary , but not extreme, menu selections and preparations5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMUpscale and delightfulThe food was excellent .ian our waiter was among the best, a little pricey but when you are able to bring your own wine it all works out pretty well. We will go back.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGood location, better foodWe had a great night at Heirloom for our first time there. I ordered the duck breast w/ Foie Gras and it was excellent.
My wife had the swordfish w/ vanilla risotto. We will definitely return.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMLots to like!Celebrating birthday with a party of eight. Tip top service, above average creative food, visit from the personable chef, complimentary delicious b-day dessert - what could've been better?5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery aspect of our experienceEvery aspect of our experience was top notch. The menu was creative, quality of ingredients and presentation as good or better than similar restaurants of this caliber. Terrific meal and wonderful service, what more would you want. We look forward to coming back again and again!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMwe enjoyed the dinner verywe enjoyed the dinner very perfectly... we ordered amazing appetizers ,followed by a perfect dinner, we even got to meet the chef before we enjoyed our delicious dessert5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMNeighborhood gemThis restaurant was a wonderful experience. The meal was very good and very well prepared, a lot of wonderful flavors that interacted
together to make a delicious meal. Each of us at our table of 4 ordered something different. We were all delighted with our meal and the unique combination of flavors. The presentation was beautiful and unique. The breads were great. The only thing I would change is the portion size of the salmon. We didn't order dessert so I will have to review that next time. The ambience was beautiful and the staff that waited on us was very professional and friendly. This is a true neighborhood gem and Chestnut Hill can be proud.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food & excellent serviceNice for a business dinner or a birthday dinner. Only downside is it's BYOB, however a liquor store is right next door so you can bring your own wine.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic experience!I recently took a friend to Heirloom for a celebratory dinner. All staff members were extremely attentive and so helpful with coordinating a special dessert for my friend. This is the first review I've written for opentable and I would highly recommend Heirloom!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThree TimesI like well seasoned, interestingly prepared and tasty food, along with great service. Isn't that what most everyone wants? I'm sure there will be tons of well-informed reviews of the fare, so I will leave that to the writers but I've been to Heirloom three times...once for dinner with girlfriends, once with my husband, and then with our moms for a post-mother's day brunch. I pretty much think that says it all. Outstanding!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOnce again Heirloom shinesSince Heirloom opened a couple years back, it's been my go to favorite and has not disappointed. Saturday I had the opportunity to introduce it to another of my friends, who was equally impressed. Even though the best we could get was a 5 p.m. seating, it was worth eating an early dinner!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFarm to Table FabulousAn unexpected treasure find tucked away in Chestnut Hill and well worth the 30 minute drive fromt the Main Line. Interesting, fresh and beautifully plated food. Very reasonably priced! We will be back soon.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous food but very noisyIt's no longer uncommon to find the best small restaurants with very high noise levels. All was well early on ( around 6:00-6:30) but then come 7:00 the noise really escalated. This was a Wednesday evening. Meal was delicious, dessert not so great but the service was wonderful.
Look forward to returning.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFreakin' Fabulous!Heirloom! You and your staff are the best. It was an incredible meal from beginning to end. The seafood was fresh and tasty, the lamb shank was so tender and delicate, I don't know that I've had one more well prepared! Everything, including Ian, was charming, delightful, and made an evening out a real event! Thank you once again for a tremendous dinner! XOXO5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA GemHeirloom has warm, attractive setting for food that combines the traditional with a modern twist. Everything tastes fresh, original, and delicious. The use of local produce makes it especially appealing to vegetarians, but it is enjoyable for everyone. The menu items as well as the specials offer choices for all tastes. I like the fact that in describing the specials, the waitstaff includes the price. The service is friendly and professional. The only negative is the noise level.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, great ambience,Good food, great ambience, great service, small space. Would visit again.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMI think that this restuarantI think that this restuarant is a great addition to both the restaurant scene in Philadelphia and the community of Chestnut Hill. The service is always pleasant, and they do try to accommodate for food allergies. I do think that the food is just a bit heavy and I would like to have a little bit more of a variety of levels of sauces vs. "cleaner" food and pure vegetarian choices.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe tried a new place...Hadn't been to Heirloom before so decided to give it a try, Food was great, service could have been a little faster. We had to look around for our server several times -- and there was hardly anyone in the place at the time. We'll go back though, hope the service was just off that day.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMRepeat CustomerWe have been here several times and have always enjoyed it. Service has always been excellent and the food delicious. The menu is limited but Heirloom specializes in dishes you won't find anywhere else.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome food. Beautiful décor.Awesome food. Beautiful décor. Terrific service. A+ .... I would go back again and again!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFine experienceSimply an exceptional meal. Wonderful creative menu. He service was exceptional and the chef, Al Farris visited with us before we ordered and gave gret advice on what to order.
There really wasn't anything to criticize except we chose o eat outside. I probably wouldn't do that again. Otherwise I can't wait to return. The only issue here was the difficulty in getting reservations. Great job all round4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI have never been disappointedI have never been disappointed at Heirloom. Their menu is creative and inspiring. I love having a restaurant of this caliber in my neighborhood. The down side of discovering a restaurant this good is that now its challenging to get a reservation!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMTotally yummy. I venturedTotally yummy. I ventured all the way to Chestnut Hill from Center City on word of mouth alone, and it was totally worth it! Thanks for a tremendous brunch experience.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food at Heirloom is exceptionalThe food at Heirloom is exceptional. Chef Al is amazing and we were delighted with our meals. I had the duck and froi gras - unbelievable! The froi gras was made to perfection and the duck was tender and delicious. The salad was also wonderful. They use fresh, local ingredients whenever possible. Service was impeccable. BYOB, which saves $$.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMCheerful, friendly serviceCheerful, friendly service from hostess and server. Careful attention to details by the kitchen to execute a very enticing menu, plates were very well presented and as delicious as they looked. Not my first visit and certainly not my last.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMwe sat at the curved end ofwe sat at the curved end of a long banquette but the table was square so we coud not get close to the table. The table could be moved to make it closer to one diner but that made it further from the other diner. So we compromised and left it equally distant from both diners. Then when eating we had to lean forward or sit at the edge our seats to reach our plates - it was awkward. Food was excellent and I will go back soon, but will ask not to be seated at table 31.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food at Heirloom was veryThe food at Heirloom was very fresh. The food was prepared perfectly. Heirloom is great for special occasions and I love that it is a byob.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI'd heard the food was special,I'd heard the food was special, and I was not disappointed.
Great combinations of ingredients, and artfully presented, too3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to Heirloom twiceWe have been to Heirloom twice now, and each time was a delight. The wait staff is very solicitous. The ambiance is quiet and relaxed. The food presentation is some of the best I have seen. And we have found the side dishes are surprisingly good. We had the side of Brussels sprouts the first time we were there. Absolutely delicious. This time we had the side of gingered carrots. Like non I have ever eaten. I think I liked that part of the meal the best!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food; Too much ServiceFor me the food is most important and it's just yummy and unique. My friend and I both enjoyed the food very much including dessert - all very good.
Although our server was lovely and professional he checked on us way too often. Both my friend and I detest this and it detracts from our experience. No news is good news folks. STOP ASKING HOW I AM AND HOW THE FOOD IS AND ON AND ON. LET ME TALK TO MY FRIEND ALREADY. I was a server for years - it's an art. Find the balance and read body language. If 2 people are inches away totally engrossed LEAVE THEM ALONE.
Again I loved the food and would return but if you are the server reading this please try to tailor your service to each person the best you can.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI went here during ChestnutI went here during Chestnut Hill Restaurant Month. Everything was superb. The food is mainly prepared with local and seasonal ingredients, it's beautifully presented, and most importantly it is tasty. The dining room is very attractive, the service is friendly and efficient, and it is even a BYOB which is great on the wallet. This is a top-quality dining experience in Chestnut Hill.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMy dining companion & I hadMy dining companion & I had a delicious meal and were even able to take advantage of its Chestnut Hill Restaurant Month offering. Heirloom has the added advantage of being a byob. The dining room is very small and feels all the more so due to rather dark burlap-like coverings (presumably there to hide the view of its tiny strip mall location) on the windows and door which was initially difficult to find. Worth mentioning because the restaurant was not that busy when I was there, but I suspect could feel very close on a busy weekend night.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA nice Palm Sunday brunch with momThis was my second visit to Heirloom Restaurant, my first time for brunch. I liked the variety of dishes on the menu. The oyster gumbo, a substitute for the oyster chowder that they had run out of, was extraordinary. The oysters were huge and perfectly cooked. The broth was delicious as were the al-dente vegetables, cut just the right size for the dish. Although the shrimp and grits was also very tasty, there were only four shrimp, not enough for the amount of grits and mushrooms. One to two more shrimp would have been better or the same amount of a larger-sized shrimp. The service was attentive and well-timed. I will definitely return to Heirloom and I am looking forward to trying their signature dessert, the warm apple pie donut.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMNice to be greeted by owner,Nice to be greeted by owner, waiter very informative and enthusiastic and friendly, food extremely tasty but not hot as we prefer, ambience very comfortable, dining choices plentiful, definitely will return. Thank you.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was excellent exceptEverything was excellent except for the noise level which was awful. It was impossible to talk or hear each other.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe new spring menu is veryThe new spring menu is very fresh for the palate, subtle and light. The prix fixe during the week gave us wonderful value. Great chef, hw talkes with folks and likes to hear feedback on his menus.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAn enjoyable eveningAlways a great meal! I don not suggest passing on their deserts....mouth watering.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent!! WeThe food was excellent!! We had our one year old daughter with us and I felt that she was very much welcomed by the staff and they were able to accomodate our needs very well. It was also my birthday and they added a candle to my dessert, very wonderful! I would definitely dine here again:)3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe ate there during restaurantWe ate there during restaurant month which was nice and the food was good. Tomato bisque was as good as it gets, the main course was shepherds pie which was very good although a little to finely chopped (could have been a little more chewy and had a better mouth feel), the dessert was chocolate cake with cherries inside and homemade vanilla ice cream. The dessert was quite good -- the cherries gave it a nice touch and the ice cream was nice, if bit tame. Strangely the dessert was the largest portion of the night.
The service was ok but the waiter seemed to be vaguely contemptuous that we were ordering the restaurant special -- excuse me but it sounded good. That plus a lecture that coffee made in a French press took 5 minutes was ann3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAl Paris has done an amazingAl Paris has done an amazing job with this restaurant! This was my 3rd dining experience at Heirloom and it was as wonderful as the 1st and 2nd! One of my favorite places to dine. The room is cozy, the service is excellent and the food is delicious and beautifully plated...what could be better! Looking forward to trying their brunch next!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA local gemA great addition to the local restaurant scene. A creative menu. The people who work there try to please.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFood here is creative andFood here is creative and very good. We are vegetarians and had less to choose from compared to many other restaurants these days.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding! The food is incredibleOutstanding! The food is incredible, the decor is beautiful, the servers are attentive and accommodating, and the BYOB option is very nice as well. I have Celiac Disease, and was assured that I would have plenty of gluten free choices available to me. The accomodation for special diets was wonderful, and the food pairings were creative and beyond delicious! My family and I were very impressed, and loved everything we ate. We will be returning. Highly recommended!3/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
