Diner Reviews
  • "The crab cake was wonderful and the red snapper my husband chose was awesome. We like to order different dishes and taste something new as we share. The chef's new pretzel bread was brought out as we waited for our order and it came with regular bread, butter and cinnamon butter, a melt in your mouth experience, very nice. Looking forward to our next occasion. Coming here has inspired me further into using more spice and dreams when I cook at home. I can allot of foods and think back on our dinners there, I now mix and match my own sweet/spicy salsas with dishes thinking outside the box like peach, tomato, pineapple with Salmon. Thank you for inspiring me."

  • "My wife and I absolutely LOVE Heirloom! We drive from Lexington for the amazing food and great service. The spinach salad, chicken livers and beef tenderloin are spectacular! This is our favorite restaurant in Central Kentucky!"

  • "Midway is cute. The waitstaff seemed unorganized - no one was waiting in front or behind us. The restaurant week preset meal ran out and had to substitute scallops with shrimp. My friends thought both versions were "fine". I had the pea ravioli and thought it was "fine". The restaurant was freezing cold. The wine list was ok. I may have had my expectations too high, but I was underwhelmed with all aspects of Heirloom. It was good/nice/fine atmosphere and food, but was expecting mood music, more professional host/waitstaff and even higher quality of food. I feel that I've had better mid-range food in Lexington, then driving out for "high end" food in Midway."

  • "I researched restaurants for our trip to Kentucky that were near the Kentucky Horse Park and selected this one. What amazing luck. This is, hands down, the best restaurant that I have ever eaten at. I had the duck. Not sure why I picked this because I have never had a good experience with duck in the past. Originally I wanted the lamb but they did not have it that night on the menu. My sister had the pasta dish, dad had the livers, and mom had the burger. Everything was amazing. The duck was just like a high end Filet. It was so tender and so well prepared it was amazing. We all shared everything and all the dishes were tops. I think we will travel back to midway one day just to eat at this restaurant."

  • "The food is simple in its presentation but wonderfully complex in its taste. Most certainly on any foodies top 10 list"

  • "We had a wonderful meal. Both the fish and the duck were excellent. We really enjoy the creativity of the chef and we consider this our favorite restaurant in the Lexington area."

  • "My lunch with my friend and former boss for his retirement was absolutely perfect!!!"

  • "The menu was filled with wonderful selections, but I could not resist the burger! It was one of the best I have ever had! Fresh! Good Quality Beef, beautiful tomato! YUM! We did say no to the dessert menu, but as we were walking out we noticed a couple sharing the blueberry cobbler---it looked fantastic!"

  • "My husband and I enjoyed an anniversary meal here and as usual, the meal was perfection. The Berkshire Pork Tenderloin dish is a favorite. Deliciously prepared and presented. The tastes blended so well. We've enjoyed every meal at Heirloom."

  • "Good food, great service, interesting specials, charming locale. A bit pricey for everyday dining, except for lunch which is reasonable and different than most lunch menus. Highly recommend."

  • "We once again ventured away from Lexington for dinner at Heirloom, and once again it was worth the drive. The occasion was our anniversary. It fell on a Wednesday, and of course we had trouble getting out of the office in time. Although they were busy, Heirloom's hostess was very gracious about pushing back our reservation. Our server was pleasantly attentive and recommended a wine that worked well with our menu selections (even better, the bottle was half price because it was Wednesday!). Finally, the food--as usual--consisted of fresh ingredients impeccably prepared; my husband practically licked his plate clean!"

  • "My boyfriend and I spent a weekend cycling in beautiful Woodford County. Dinner at Heirloom was a special treat! Outstanding food and service in a friendly, neighborhood place. We will return!"

  • "Heirloom is a lovely restaurant and we enjoy it very much for dinner. I was therefore very disappointed by our lunch time experience. The menu was limited, a couple of salads, a couple of sandwiches and their very rich chicken liver plate. They were not prepared for a holiday weekend lunch so service was slow and bordered on rude. If you want to go to Heirloom, go there for dinner."

  • "Chef Mark Wombles continues to add beautiful and innovative delights to the menu. Both our entrees were delicious, but the newly added strawberry gazpacho was outstanding. A wonderful mix of tastes and textures. I tried it out of curiosity, but I will have it again for real dining enjoyment. Combined with excellent service, the Heirloom stands out."

  • "Heirloom has become one of two ABSOLUTE go to places in central Kentucky for my wife and I for special occasions, a REALLY good meal or the place to bring out of town guests. No matter what we order it is a hit. Mark and Mathew are always looking for a way to "kick it up a notch". Dinner specials, new dishes with a twist they just don't miss."

  • "I took my girlfriend there for our anniversary and we were so impressed. The food was amazing. Hands down the best place we have ever eaten at. And I'm a bit of a foodie. The atmosphere was spot on for a romantic dinner for two. The wine list fit us to a "T". I would definitely recommend this place for anyone that has a special occasion to celebrate."

  • "The food and ambiance are always great here. Would love to see a less exotic entrée or two for the less adventuresome dinner like myself. It is my spouse's favorite restaurant. He usually loves everything on the menu."

  • "We had a great anniversary meal at Heirloom. Beth was our waiter and she was great! so knowledgeable about everything, including the wine - they have a 'quirky' list, but she was able to recommend a really good pinot noir that we otherwise would've missed (unfortunately, it was also $80! but we went along and liked it a lot). I had the red snapper special, which was INCREDIBLE. The mix of flavors really worked. Husband had the pork tenderloin from the menu. Fried cornbread, Weisenberger grits, and a pork-flavored sauce were just fabulous. Caesar salad, which we split, was great too, with white anchovies. Will definitely return!"

  • "Great lunch was spoiled by having to wait 20 minutes for a table even though we had reservations. Complimentary wine helped make the wait easier. The food was worth waiting for. The "Mary Burger" was the best hamburger I have ever had and my friends had the crab cake and said it was delicious. Will definitely return whenever we are in Midway."

  • "This is a jewel of a restaurant. It has an outstanding interior design that is simple yet elegant with food and presentation unusually only found in a metropolitan city. Highly recommend for locals and tourists in the Lexington area. On my recent visit to Heirloom, there was a larger group dining who drove from Louisville. I understand - it is worth the drive. "

  • "The Heirloom serves exquisite food in a small, intimate dining room. Truly every dish was unique and delicious. The thought of the Mache salad is still making my mouth water. The chicken livers (yes, chicken livers!!) are not to be missed. The menu is gourmet, yet approachable. We shamelessly cleaned our plates, sopping up the last bit of sauce with the fabulous bread! Worth the drive!"

  • "Modest but well-priced wine list, great service, excellent food, nice ambiance. One of the top restaurants in Kentucky, period. I make a point to eat here every time I am in the bluegrass. Have never been disappointed. "

  • "We arrived to find that the hostess had not checked Open Table reservations and had not held a table for us. We were graciously given complimentary drinks while waiting for a table to open. When we were delayed further, they threw in dessert. The food was wonderful, the wine list is full of good values, the restaurant seemed to be full of long time patrons. The owner wandered from table to table telling stories and checking on things. "

  • "As someone who is picky about a great true dining experience, Heirloom hit it out of the park in every way. From the soft pretzel bread basket to enticements to entrees and desserts (OH THE DESSERTS!!), everything was beautifully crafted and executed deliciously. Our waitress was just attentive enough without intruding at all and graciously accommodating about ingredient substitutions. It's pricy but worth every penny. The portions are thought out so you can finish your meal without bursting the top button on your pants. I am currently racking my brain for more occasions to come back to Heirloom. Spring is a holiday, right? Surely we need to celebrate the dog's birthday, no? Will be going back again and again so long as they keep it up :)"

  • "Exceptionally good food. You could drop this restaurant in any major foodie mecca and it would fit in at the top end."

  • "The best fine dining experience I've had in the Lexington area. (Recently relocated from LA, and having lived in NY, Paris, Munich and Cannes ... I am somewhat critical when it comes to eating out.) Everyone in my dinner party enjoyed their meal ... and we shared the duck breast, beef tenderloin, pork tenderloin and lamb. All entrees were cooked to perfection. A terrific, gastro delight!"

  • "After a great day at the track we were recommended by a local to visit Heirloom. What a Gem! From the ambiance, the wine list to the wonderful food and service it was a homerun all the way around. We definitely return."
