  • "Fans of Heavy Seas beers will enjoy this spot, especially the draft beer choices and bar style menu options. The crab pretzel was amazing, but beware of trying anything on the menu that is not typical of a bar menu. We tried the shrimp with the bean corn pineapple salad but it was still pretty bland and hard to eat (lots of peeling required). Light beer drinkers will like the Gold Ale and young professionals will enjoy the lively happy hour and bar scene."

  • "I took my family and friends (6 adults, 1 kid) here for happy hour and then dinner. We asked to sit in the back room since the front area had a large happy hour event. The staff was incredibly accommodating and the food was good. The only downside was the large group of frat guys that also got a table in the back and treated it as a frat party - screaming, pounding shots, running around the room. We told our server that the other group was being really loud and disruptive but were told there was nothing they could really do."

  • "The beer by Heavy Seas is an excellent product. This prompted us, three long time friends and beer connoisseurs, to meet for lunch at the Alehouse. After we were seated, a bus boy brought two mugs of water to the table for the three of us but never returned with a third. We waited at least 15 minutes but never had a waiter come to our table, nor did anyone else so much as bat an eye in our direction. The place wasn't that busy but I had to see the Hostess to get a waiter to come to our table. In fairness, she was astonished that we hadn't been waited upon. When the waiter came, he apologized and stated that there had been confusion as to whose table it was to serve. When served, our orders were only warm, like they had been sitting."

  • "We went to Heavy Seas for the beer, but ended up liking the food just as much-- if not more! We were a group of 6 so we sampled a lot of the dishes-- the tacos were our favorite appetizer but the calamari and rolls were also great; the rabbit, salmon, beef short ribs, grouper, and pasta with chicken were amazing! Loved them all. We didn't have room for dessert, but we will definitely be back."

  • "Glad to have Heavy Seas in the neighborhood, but they need to do something about the noise... my guess is that even after everyone leaves, peoples' conversations continue to bounce around in there for hours..."

  • "I was completely surprised by how nice the restaurant is, given that the name meant something a level above Long John Silvers. The service was attentive, and the decor very appealing and comfortable yet enjoyably casual. I went for a business lunch but would return to eat on my own, given how much I also enjoyed the food quality. Best Softshell crab!"

  • "I made reservations for 9 for dinner on the 4th of July. We arrived early, the one plus was that they were able to seat us early. So much went wrong, I was humiliated for having suggested the place. Mom ordered a VO Manhattan & the waiter had no idea what that was. He didn't even go ask the bartender, just said he didn't know what it was and waited for her to order something else. My parents food (a salad & fish and chips) came over 15 min after everything else after someone finally complained to the manager. Brothers short ribs were completely cold. Sisters soup was inedibly bad. Mother asked to add shrimp to her Ceasar salad. It arrived with 1 poorly cooked shrimp. They charged her $8 for the salad & $9 for the ONE shrimp."

  • "Beer was great of course and the calamari and onion rings were both great appetizers, but all four people in my party agreed that our burgers were mediocre. Probably wouldn't go back or recommend except for happy hour."

  • "My friend and I both had the salmon--his was to be medium, mine medium rare. Both were grossly overcooked. The chef has a heavy hand and needs to lighten up."

  • "Our server was excellent. Good recommendations and very honest and "on our side" it felt. The rib tacos were excellent, as were the mussels with lobster bisque. The pretzel is interesting but a little off. The crab just didn't work completely. It wasn't bad, just don't know where to place it. It's a big portion too. Would love for them to be able to get the ingredients for a proper Moscow Mule or a solid Gin/cucumber drink option as those were my first orders, which they didn't have. I nonetheless was well taken care of by my waiter and enjoyed the whole experience."

  • "New place, suggested by a friend, but the food and service were pretty much meh. I ordered fish and chips and the fish was not crispy and the chips (fries) were meh. I forget the price, but whatever I paid for a very basic meal was too much."

  • "The two people in our party who had burgers said they were excellent (best they'd had in a while). The calamari and paella were very good too. A nice casual place to enjoy some good beer and great food."

  • "I wasn't expecting the food to be so good at a newish restaurant, but we were pleasantly surprised. We only got smaller dishes -- mussels, calamari, grilled shrimp, to name a few -- and they were all delicious. We will be back!!"

  • "Four of us (+ baby) went for brunch and everyone got something different. Every single one of us loved our meal- from the pancakes, to the steak salad, to the oyster benedict to the breakfast burger we had 100% satisfaction- how often does THAT happen? Of course the beer was fabulous as well- and the outdoor dining area was great. We'll be back!"

  • "This was my fifth visit to Heavy Seas, and I continue to greatly enjoy their food and drink. Their beer list is (of course) excellent, and the food is superb. I had the soft-shell crab sandwich, which was great, and the rest of my party loved their food as well. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fun place to eat in Arlington."

  • "Food was great but the service was awful. It took 30 minutes before anyone came over to our table to take our drink order. It also took about 25 minutes to get our appetizers and they came out cold. We told the waitstaff and they replaced them with new orders and comped the apps. Food was excellent and almost made up for the horrible service. We were only able to order one round of drinks because they never came back to ask us for more. This is the second time I have been there and the first time I has awful service. "

  • "Enjoyed the cask ale but the burger and fish and chips were nothing to rave about. Not even sure what a "KOBI STYLE" burger is supposed to be, but it was dry and plain tasting."

  • "Recently dined at HeavySeas with my family and my parents for my dad's birthday. Had heard that the noise level in the restaurant was a problem, and it was very loud up front but they seated us in the back and it was loud, but fine. Our server (Chris) was excellent - he was great with my 2 kids (1, 5) as well as with recommendations and being very attentive to our table. The food was very good as well - recommendations based on what we had - the Calamari and an eggroll type thing appetizers - were excellent. The stuffed pretzel was just ok - the filling was very good and the bread was as well, but together was not as good as others. For dinner we all had burgers and all were outstanding - try the one with the fried avocado!"

  • "Our group of 8 had a good meal and a fun evening, though the noise level made it impossible to hold any kind of conversation. Food and bevvies were all good, service was exceptionally good."

  • "Oyster Po' Boy sandwich made the way it was meant to be with lots of plump oysters and bacon. Great with the in-house brews Amber and Pils!"

  • "Went there for Mother's Day brunch with a group of 8--including three kids. Great food and very attentive service. Seemed like they were still trying to work-out a few details at the new location, but they made up for that with great service and great attitudes. Will definitely return. "

  • "We went back to Heavy Seas for the first time for brunch. It was excellent -- especially liked the baked lobster stuffed with crabmeat accompanied by blood-orange pasta. Try it -- you won't be disappointed."

  • "We were lucky enough to have a great server who was well acquainted with the food and brews. He was a great asset. Food and beer were wonderful. Could use a lower volume of sound but it was doable. Even the parking was easy!"

  • "Casual, Good Food, and Festive atmosphere. We went for the oysters! There was a good variety. Beer selection was plentiful. Wine selection was good. All in all a nice experience. Only two items to be considered - although very friendly, the service was slow. 15 minutes for the first drink. Salad came with the entree. And outdoor tables are a bit small for 4. Nothing the restaurant can't fix easily!"

  • "I went here for lunch with three friends. Service was fine, nothing exceptional. The salad I ordered was supposed to come with pine nuts, but wasn't served with them. The table was way too small to hold our drinks and lunch plates. We sat outside as the weather was nice, but the view is lacking. I would not go out of my way to visit. I think the food is overpriced. I like that they offer beers from other breweries."

  • "We went on a Wednesday night, it was raining very hard and the bar & dining room of Heavy Seas was packed. Bravo to chef & kitchen staff, didnt take long to get food served even though restaurant was crowded. They have the kitchen timing under control. The service and food were excellent. The beer is great. Waiter very attentive. Cant wait to go back again. "

  • "Went here for a fundraiser with three friends. The turkey burger was really good. We sat in the back room and the walls were decorated like Baltimore and they had cute decos on the walls. Great place to eat."

  • "Liked the restaurant, but it is very loud. There were a lot of people at the bar, but were immediately sat for dinner. Food was good and so was service."

  • "A fun atmosphere with lots of activity at the bar. My daughter and I must be gluten free and always worry about getting a truly gluten free meal. The server was friendly and seemed knowledgeable. I was assured that the chef would be especially careful with our meals. I had the salmon dish that was absolutely fabulous! To keep the dish GF, they traded out the sweet potato side dish for a Caesar salad (no croutons). My husband enjoyed his swordfish, and the best part was watching my daughter devour her Caeser salad with grilled chicken (also sans croutons). I don't think this was on the menu, but they made it for her. I even had gluten free beer! What a treat. Service was quick, but we didn't feel rushed at all. Fantastic!"

  • "Awfully glad I made a reservation—this place was packed on a Friday night. Very noisy bar area, and even the room in the back (it's a pretty big space overall... looks are deceiving) the noise level was a little much. Food was good enough: the fried chicken appetizer was fantastic, really just a better take on chicken wings. I got a burger and my SO got the steak. Both were good enough (her paella was out of this world good), though I felt that both meats suffered from a little too much charring. Prices were also a bit higher than expected, a touch or so higher than its obvious competitor in Dogfish Head. Maybe that's attributable to the location in Rosslyn. If you find yourself there, it's a worthy dinner contender. Oh, and GREAT BEER. "

  • "Went on a Friday night. The place was packed, not surprising since it had only been open about a month. Fortunately we had a reservation and were seated immediately. Server was friendly and attentive despite the crowd. The beer list has a good mix of their own brews and guest options, probably close to 15 total on tap. Entrees were decent but not exceptional. Many come with no or minimal sides. There was an issue with the wrong check being brought to our table and one of our entrees did not come out with the others but both were rectified quickly."

  • "The design of the restaurant carries the noise from the bar right thru the entire restaurant. I was seated at the table at the back wall and the noise from the bar made it impossible to have a conversation with my guests. "

  • "I'd been once before and had a great burger, b/c previous reviews had suggested to stay safe with them. But we ventured into some other dishes that were fabulous! The Smoked chicken penne & chanterelle ravioli were just terrific. Beers were great of course. The waiter was attentive. He came by frequently to see how things were but when a request was actually made, water, a fresh drink, it either took a long time in coming (the drink) or never came, (the water). Noise-wise, I was expecting worse, but was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't an issue for us. And this was at 8:30-10pm on a Saturday night. We can walk there so we'll go again, a lot. Just hope the service issues clear up. But the food, wow, awesome."

  • "I wanted to like Heavy Seas. This is one of only a few breweries in Arlington and I had I expectations. The beer was great, the food was mediocre. I suspect they have everything frozen or pre made. I'll go for drinks and that is all."
