The food was great and the service very good but our waitress never came back to our table once the food arrived. We kind of felt abandoned. We only had one round of drinks and couldn't order any more as no one seemed to be covering our table

The food and drinks here are superb, have a good variety, and pair well together. The cocktails are tasty, but it is frustrating to not be able to try ALL of them in one visit. I guess we have to go back -- again! I love this place, and so should you.

Really great ambiance. Love the huge portraits of dogs. Wait staff very friendly and helpful. Too bad the bar counter in the kitchen isn't used so much - may have to use it next time. This is my third time there and I will continue to go back.

We were grabbing a quick meal after work before going on to an event, so we were in a little bit of a hurry and Heaven's Dog worked out perfectly for our plans. We had excellent cocktails, three small plates, a side dish and a main course dish. The flavors in each item were vibrant--very salty or very sharp/sweet, which went nicely with the cocktails. We made the mistake of ordering two salty items--each of which was good but in combination they were a little too much salt. We might have sought guidance from our waiter, who was being very helpful to the people around us. We learned that the small plates are not that small.

Our server seemed grumpy and inattentive. Service was slow, and when we eventually told him we'd take our last dish To Go because we had to leave, he explained that there had been issues in the kitchen that evening. Might have been nice to know why he was so disgruntled sooner, although I'm still not sure that's an excuse. I am a huge "Phan", so my expectations were fairly high. Most of the dishes were good, some very good, but overall they weren't measuring up to my expectations. The Shanghai dumplings in particular were nearly dry. Thumbs down. We had a drink at the bar before we were seated - Drinks were great & the bartender was VERY attentive.

I think they were overwhelmed with a sold-out show at the Orpheum, and so we were rather neglected and eventually had to cancel most of our food to make it to the show on time. The hostess felt terrible and tried to make it right, which we appreciated. The food that we did get was quite good, so I'd like to give them another chance.

Have been several times. On this occasion the food just didn't seem to "pop.". Dumplings didn't seem fresh, certainly weren't hot but just warm, causing them to stick on the paper. Rice portions are small; waiter recommended one portion for the table, but in most Asian restaurants this would have been the usual amount for one person. I will go again because even when below its own high standards, the place has a positive energy, and the plates of food are just the right size to allow trying out several dishes without overindulging. And the bar features unusual cocktails, reminiscent of older times but with crazy combos of flavors, some quite successful and others not so much but well worth trying.

I had some friends in from new jersey and was going to take them to the slanted door but couldnt get in, so I booked at heavens dog and have no regretts. all three of us loved it.
