Diner Reviews
  • "very pleaed with our dinner. Had the BQ sample plate, which gave me 8 diffrent tastes. My wife had the Cajun stir fry, which was a house creation so we had quiet the sample of the menu, and enjoyed it all!"

  • "Heaven on Seven is one of my favorite places in Chicago to grab lunch or Brunch. The service is always great, friendly and attentive, and the food fantastic. it's always a little different fare than what you might get from elsewhere in the city, but it has just the right combination of spice, flavor and punch. Add to that it's not very expensive. It is also a perfect place for families of all ages. I take my 1.5 year old there, and the mardi gras decorations mesmerize him for the entirety of the meal. Note: unlike many restaurants these days, the tea is actually fresh brewed and not instant. HUGE + for me. Last but not least, makes SURE you get at least a cup fo the gumbo. It's what they are famous for, and for good reason."

  • "Great Cajun Food. Their gumbo is a must!!! The service was wonderful and our server was very helpful & knowledgeable. We ordered fried green tomatoes, chicken & andouille sausage quesadillas, shrimp po' boy, ettouffe of the day, fried chicken breasts, BBQ shrimp (one of my favorites). For dessert we had deep dish pecan pie, mississippi mud pie and coconut cream cake. Everything was delicious."

  • "Our server Norma was excellent following a warm welcome by the hostess. The menu was explained the garlic potatoe salad is as good as others have raved. The black bean soup, meat, seafood and poultry tapas were all deliciously prepared with tasty sauces and enough bread provided to add as many carbs desired while soaking up the flavourful juices. Three of us dined for just at $50.00 a person and that include the banana ice cream dessert that none of us had room for, but some how that plate was left clean as well. Definitely one of the best finds on our trip to Chicago."

  • "Lunch specials were great as usual. We especially liked the gumbo, étouffée of the day, and crab cake appetizer."

  • "Great food - salmon and the gumbo is a MUST!! Most authentic Cajun cuisine in Chicago!!"

  • "I went in with my boyfriend for lunch. All the food was bland, mushy, and not cajun at all. The salad dressing was super sweet. The coleslaw was drowning in a disgusting dressing. The crab cakes were obviously frozen and then fried in oil that hadn't been changed (it was brown, but still had a burnt flavor to it) and the inside was just a mushy, bland mess."

  • "Only if there was a Heaven on Seven in Michigan. From the service to the left overs the next day, this spot was golden. I was a bit nervous going in because my daughter and have food allergies. With the awesome menu selections we had no trouble ordering whatever our palets desired."

  • "Heaven on Seven located on Rush Street in Chicago has been a neighborhood fixture for years. Although the menu never seems to change, they have a huge variety of cajun inspired food with large portions at reasonable prices. As the restaurant says "Try the Gumbo", they are right, it's fantastic. You can get a cup with almost any entree included in the price and it is really good. I've had a number of things here over the years and it is generally all really good. It's a large place and almost always easy to get in for lunch or dinner. Easy to walk away very full and satisfied from this place."

  • "I have eaten here several times now and have never been disappointed. My gumbo was very good, as was my entree, a house twist on jambalaya. My son and his girlfriend also felt their dinners were excellent! We will definitely return and recommend to our friends!"

  • "It was our first time dining here. We were warmly greeted and our waitress and the waiters who brought and removed dishes were outstanding. And our food was delicious."

  • " Stepping into the restaurant gives you the feeling of walking down Bourbon St. During Mardi Graus or dining in New Orleans. The menu selections are too many to count. I had ordered an entree without looking at the full menu and had to track down my waitress to change my order. The food came out in a very reasonable amount of time and it was very good. The restaurant was a little hot during our visit. The hot sauce selections were awesome, I even left with my own bottle. Desserts are a little pricey and the two we had(Coconut creme cake/pecan pie) were not very good. If we had eaten them at the restaurant we would have sent them back. Ended up throwing away $14.00 here, as that is what we did with the desserts after a couple of bites."

  • "Great good, but service was slow when we were waiting for our to-go container.. We had to ask multiple people"

  • "So much food. We ended up bringing half our meal home. It was just as fantastic the next day. We both had the BBQ po'boy. Oh BOY was that yummy- though i took mine off the bread. Had the sweet potato polenta and tots as my side. The Corn and Shrimp soup to start. I'm not a big corn soup girl, but WOW. This was good. Of course, after this meal, I had to work out extra hard, but it was worth every calorie."

  • "If you like spicy hot, this is the place. Good Cajun food. We get here about once a year when we come into the city for a musical or play in the theatre area. It's is a $6 cab ride from the theatres or a 20 minute walk, depending on traffic. Love the jalapeno cornbread, they now give you blueberry cornbread & butter when you are seated, YUMMY! Been coming here for a few years, haven't noticed much change in menu but that is ok, as they have a good varity of spicy and not spicy foods. If you come be sure to look thru the wall of hot sauces, very interesting."

  • "We visited Heaven on Seven during Father's Day Weekend when my parents were visiting from out of town. My father loves Cajun food so I picked this place for him. He has very high standards when it comes to gumbo and he said that the gumbo was very good. My aunt had the shrimp and grits and said they were excellent. The Cajun decor is a little over the top, but Heaven on Seven is a fun place for some good comfort food."

  • "My kids don't do the kids menu as they like cajun creole and spicy foods. The wait staff is always amazed because the kids are under 12 and enjoy this place as much as we do! Always fun and well taken care of!"

  • "great place to go for cajun food in downtown chicago. make sure to have the gumbo."

  • "Great place to go when you are looking for this type of cuisine. My guest loves crawfish, and it was the special when we arrived. She was thrilled, and the meal was wonderful."
    Dined on 5/29/2014
  • "Jambalaya is great, food in general very good, nice selection of beers (Voo Doo dark is great) and wines and good service too. If it wasn't downtown I'd eat here more often. 2nd floor location is odd, but it works. Ambiance themed with Mardi Gras decorations, beads masks. I'd recommend it."

  • "Greg the server was great and took time to explain the menu. Chris the manager checked if the food and service were okay. The bus staff were diligent at removing the empty plates from our table."

  • "I had been wanting to try Heaven or Seven for months. It exceeded my expectations. Portions are huge & food is delicious! Try the crawfish!!!"

  • "I was really excited to go here because my wife and I love spicy food! Unfortunately, everything was very bland and boring. Over priced boring food. Really not much else to say. The server was really nice and attentive! We gave her a 25% tip even though nothing was great."
    Dined on 5/16/2014
  • "They definitely don't exaggerate about the fantastic gumbo! We had the all you can eat table buffet and it was 100% worth it. Easily one of my favorite spots in the city! "

  • "This is a good place for dinner or lunch. I hadn't been in awhile so it was nice to go back. "
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "Mediocre food, rushed service (main course arrived about 3 minutes after starters.) very touristy."
    Dined on 5/2/2014
  • "You certainly get the New Orleans feel from the decor and the gumbo quite good, but neither the red beans and rice (thick and dry) or the oyster po boy (mostly breading) will ever make you think you are back in the Big Easy."
    Dined on 4/29/2014
  • "We had a good brunch at a reasonable price. There were a lot of choices of pepper sauce to choose from. "
    Dined on 4/27/2014
  • "I think this concept is great and there's definitely room for it on the chicago palate, but this venue has seen its day and be either retired or completely redone."
    Dined on 4/26/2014
  • "I have had a lot of cajun food, and this is some of the best food outside of New Orleans!"
    Dined on 4/12/2014
