Diner Reviews
  • "I've eaten at Hearth a few times. Each time I ask myself, why I don't eat there more often. The food is delicious and flavorful. A friend felt it was not only great tasting but used the adjective "clean" tasting, I agree. I was trying to figure out why the restaurant wasn't more crowded. The only answer I could come up with was that it isn't inexpensive. I loved the restaurant and will absolutely return"

  • "This restaurant is underrated. The food is top notch. Our second visit on a holiday weekend no less. The service is very good and drink / wine list is superb."

  • "Really cute/romantic place, but unfortunately the food didn't stand up. The portions are small and the pork I ordered was almost inedible due to over salting...maybe it was an off night for them."

  • "Great dining room - feels cozy, current and classic with a variety of textures and colors. The night we were there, we really could have used much more than the box fan they stationed by the door. It was very warm in the dining room. We actually didn't have dessert there because it was so uncomfortable. The food was very good. The grilled quail was very good. The warm vegetable salad was good, but some of the vegetables were a bit overcooked. We shared the spatchcock chicken, which was served with snap peas. We also had a side of gnocchi. The gnocchi was very tender, perfectly cooked. The chicken was excellent - seasoned well, skin as perfectly crisp as expected, and served at a great temperature. Service was timely and attentive."

  • "The tables are of wood; the chairs somewhat industrial -- it works and is appropriate to the space. The service is pleasant, very good and attentive (but not overly so). The food was excellent -- fava bean salad; olive oil poached wild salmon; roasted pork loin; strawberry crisp. Not particularly adventuresome, but delicious. The wine list appeared to be a bit pricy; we ordered wine by the glass. The pour was sufficient. Although a bit noisy, there was no difficulty speaking across the table. The lighting was effective -- ceiling lighting augmented the candles on the table."

  • "Hearth offers interesting menu items for brunch and a good variety of mains to choose from. The salmon deviled eggs appetizer was delicious. Everyone at my table was very happy with their meal! Portion sizes were perfect. They serve good coffee too. Surprised I hadn't brunched here sooner!"

  • "Not impressed - somewhat disappointed. Cud've spent my $ elsewhere for better food!"

  • "I've been to Hearth a few times, and it is always excellent. The food is unusual and very tasty, the liquor list extensive and the waiting staff cordial. Highly recommended for dates and small groups alike."

  • "I was so excited to have the opportunity to eat at one of the top 5 restaurants in the country and we were not disappointed. Took my 13 year old son and his friend there along with a friend of mine. They treated the boys wonderfully and catered to them as much as they did for us. It's an expensive restaurant, but the quality of the food (organic, non-GMO, grass fed meats, butter, cheeses) make it worth the money. The wine was superb as well.. I highly recommend checking out Hearth."

  • "I've been for dinner and decided to try the brunch and loved it! The kitchen was running a little slow so we were also given complimentary starters and sides. We didn't even notice the slow service but it was nice of them to go above and beyond to make customers happy. I would recommend to anyone in the neighborhood looking for a nice brunch."

  • "We've eaten at Hearth before and decided to come back with some friends. We happened to be seated next to the kitchen and Marco Canora came over to say hi and go over the menu with us - a nice touch. We had the tasting menu and it was fantastic. From the fava bean salad to the poached salmon in olive oil to the chocolate dessert. What a great meal. Would definitely go back."

  • "Food was excellent but the evening was somewhat spoiled by unprofessional service. We had the tasting menu. The dishes were brought out by random people and then we'd have to flag down our server to try to get an explanation of the dish. Server also had a flippant attitude towards pouring wine meaning that he let the bottle dribble and splash wine all over the table."

  • "Food was so delicious and the staff really made us feel at home. I highty recommend Hearth and always suggest it to my friends. It's truly a gem!"

  • "This place caters to people who are looking for a truly unusual dining experience, and who have the funds to accommodate their whims. I wouldn't recommend Hearth to my friends since they prefer the tried-and-true fare to which they are accustomed, and do not wish to spend large sums on their stomachs."

  • "Had heard great things about this place and decided to try it for brunch. It was ok, but definitely did not live up to the hype. Brunch at my corner diner is better. Service was terrible. Maybe it was just the wrong meal to have there, but I don't think it's worth going."

  • "Didn't stand up to Chef's reputation. Good came out luke warm. Service started off great and ended with a fizzle. Meatballs were the shining star of the night. The bass was terrible. The "fried to order" donuts...not so fried to order. Those wet cold and old. The wait staff / mgr. was apologetic but it took 20 mins to get new donuts, but then I was over it. "

  • "Hearth has been here for a long time. Its' well lauded specialties are still special. Its' concept of wholesome good food is more prevalent at more restaurants these days. You can't miss here. A nice surprise was the complimentary chai we received. Perhaps a new surprise speciality on the menu is also in order."

  • "Delightful. Request the stuffed clams, they are a favorite of the house. Poached salmon was silky and delightful. The lamb two ways was incredible."

  • "I took my wife here for her birthday after attending the Wellness in the Schools benefit, where we sampled their amazing pea soup (...three times). A beautiful space, genuinely cordial and welcoming staff, and excellent music choices at the right level. We ordered the snails, fish for two, a side of gnocchi and hen of the woods, and for desert, the bomboloni w/rhubarb and carrot cake with cream cheese ice cream……Absolutely Brilliant….Literally and specifically, one of the best meals I have had on this Earth. I say this as a world traveler and native New Yorker. With gratitude, thank you."

  • "Have had some very nice evenings at Hearth in the past, so maybe it just an off night for them. Service was quite inattentive, although when our server did make an appearance, she was great, and suggested a very nice bottle of wine. Fava bean salad, pea soup and polenta were as good as I expected, but the grass-fed ribeye was a real disappointment. I realize it is just one menu item, but it is $118. It is not what we would typically order, but wanted something very special, which it definitely was not."

  • "On a recommendation we dined at Hearth and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Welcoming personnel, interesting wine list. There's an option of eating at a counter by the kitchen but we took a table and enjoyed Arctic char and butter-soft lamb tenderloins. It was a dining experience."

  • "I met 2 old friends at Hearth a few nights ago. I had been there w my wife almost a year ago and loved it then, this dinner was even better. This is hearty, interesting, fabulous food from Northern Italy featuring fresh ingredients executed perfectly. We had the tasting menu so we could try more of the dishes and from the bean salad w grilled bread thru the pasta, meat dish and amazing desserts, it was outstanding. Service was great and the wine list is ecclectic tho a touch pricey(I drank a reserva Barbaresco for $120 that was killer!)"

  • "This was our third time at Hearth (we don't live in NY, so it's always a special occasion for us). The cuisine is a cross between modern American and Northern Italian. The ingredients come from local farms, and everything is expertly prepared. I had an appetizer of ricotta "sformato" (like a panna cotta) with sauted mushrooms, snapper in a bacon consomme with fresh peas, and chocolate-hazelnut budino for dessert. My husband had salmon crudo, lamb loin and ribs spiced with cloves, and a rhubarb upside down cake. All were top-notch. The kitchen was running a little behind, so the restaurant comped us our desserts - even though we weren't bothered and didn't complain. This is typical of the fine service we always experience at Hearth."

  • "We chose to try the Chef's choice 7 course menu and it was delicious. We also chose to have the bar pair our courses with a drink, which was amazing. We loved every aspect of this restaurant and will definitely return next time we are in town."

  • "A friend of mine introduced me to Hearth a few years ago and it is one of my go tos when I want to go to a high end restaurant with great food, fantastic wine and no pretense. The service is excellent and I have yet to be disappointed by any dish on the menu. Their meatballs are must orders for those who eat meat. "

  • "This is one of those places that you really want to like. Seems like other people like it. But it's not likable. We waited about 30 minutes for our table, that the hostess said was being prepared -- pointing toward the front. We waited, with a $17 Pinot noir. Then they led us to the back room, no ambiance at all. Sat us next to the noisiest table -- I wanted to lunch them in the face -- couldn't even hear the waiter talking. Food was a mixed bag. Just save yourself -- go half a block down to Tree and be treated nicely and sit in the garden and all will be right with the world. "

  • "Wonderfully spiced and succulent meal. Terrifically eclectic wine list, covering many bases, palates and price points. Come see what the fuss is all about at this 2014 James Beard winner - you won't regret it. "

  • "We went down a list of restaurants that a friend recommended, couldn't get a reservation for a few of them, and then we came to Hearth. All in all, it seemed like just a regular night out - nothing special- and the food did not meet our expectations. Although the service was not bad, there is only one washroom on each floor that men and women must share and the line-ups peek out into the dining area. When we paid our bill, apparently "the register" miscalculated our bill and charged us for 5 glasses of wine when we only had 3. They were apologetic and fixed our bill after a long wait but there was no consolation desert or discount for our inconvenience. Considering the food and that it's not cheap, would not visit again."

  • "Hearth is excellent in every respect. Food, wine, people, space are all great. Exception staff, knowledgeable, friendly and there when you need them. Really good food with a true emphasis on local and sustainable. NNothing over the top, just really good. The name says it all. "

  • "A menu was prearranged earlier in the day for 5 for dinner to be served family style. From the time we entered until we said good night it was beyond expectations. The favas were better than any I ever enjoyed in Italy. The exceptional staff worked together and served the dinner seamlessly. It was our first time at Hearth and we will return."

  • "Hearth is a good spot in the East Village, but I found the menu to be overpriced for the quality of the food. Most of the food was good, but not great. There was nothing outstanding or especially memorable about it. We were also seated in the back part of the restaurant, which has considerably less ambiance than the main dining room."

  • "We dined at Hearth our first night in New York City. The food was perfect and the wine pairings inspired. Our server was first-rate and took excellent care of us. I can't wait until our next visit. The meal was worth every penny. We're still talking about it!"

Kitchen working with local farms to make our dining experience incredible! Gonna head back there when my hubby returns from over seas. This will definitely be one of our go to restaurants!"
