Diner Reviews
  • "Went for pre-theatre lunch with a friend on a Saturday. The place is nicely laid out and decorated, exposed brick, windows, attractive. Very nice service, food good, prices reasonable. Can't say much more based on one visit and one dish (we ordered the same thing). We were offered a tiny glass of chai by way of an "amuse bouche," which was a little too sweet. Altogether a good impression, would go back. Maybe not run back, but go back, yes."

  • "I am a foodie and an oenophile, and this place did not disappoint. We did the 7-course tasting menu and our taste buds were delighted by scrumptious, seasonally fresh foods, creative compilations, and perfectly paired wines. Our on-site sommelier was able to answer all my questions and provide excellent recommendations. Service was impeccable, perfectly marrying the seemingly antithetical atmospheres of being doted on by many servants and having a cozy, unassuming meal at home with family. Tasting menu is never the same so I can't wait to come back!"

  • "With seasonal / local ingredients, a varied menu, and the most delicious apple cider doughnuts I have ever eaten, the whole experience was great. Our waitress recommended we participate in what she termed a, "customized tasting menu." This unique dining recommendation led to a long and enjoyable meal where we did not feel rushed, but were able to enjoy each dish to its full extent individually. Additionally, the kitchen split each dish into two for each course and presented it beautifully, as if the dish were for one. Either the portions are huge or we definitely received extra food. We left stuffed and Hearth is definitely a restaurant I would love to go back to, even if for an appetizer and a delicious glass of wine."

  • "Always fun to watch and daydream. The food was elegant, elegantly presented, and delicious. I've been to Hearth several times. . I haven't been able to figure out why I'm not more enthusiastic this time -- no wows? I think at this level of finesse and price, it shouldn't be possible to "order wrong" so I'm open to going once more."

  • "I have been to Hearth several times over the past few months. This past time was for brunch with a colleague. The food never disappoints. Every dish I have ever ordered or sampled exceeds my expectations. There is great variety on the menu. Diners always feel well taken care of by the extras sent out from the kitchen with compliments of the chef. The waitstaff is always polite and comfortable with letting diners take their time with meals. There is never a sense of being rushed. I highly recommend Hearth for wonderful dining experience."

  • "Great food but a little too noisy to hear my entire group at a large table for 5."

  • "Truly amazing place with brilliant food and bespoke service. Super attentive staff who went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. I would go back in a heartbeat and have recommended it to a lot of friends already."

  • "I can't believe it took two years of living near here to come in, and it was the announcement about their James Beard Award that drew us in for brunch. We'll be back again and again... Brunch was delicious: we had the kale and sausage with poached eggs and the ricotta and veal meatballs over polenta. They have a very good beer list and the Joe Magnarelli cocktail was divine. Can't wait to go back for dinner."

  • "I had told them in advance that I was meeting out-of-town business clients for the first time and it was an important dinner. Nick and everyone at Hearth were fantastic from the moment we walked in. Warm, welcoming and incredibly helpful to my guests. The food was superb, the ambiance was perfect, and the dinner was a great success. It was everything I'd hoped it would be. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Enjoyed our experience at Hearth very much for brunch. Great veal/ricotta meatballs, frittata and beef dip sandwich...not to mention the complimentary donut holes-awesome! The staff was lovely and the space was more than comfortable. Looking forward to going again."

  • "Consistently one of the best restaurants in NYC. Combine great cooking with the finest ingredients add a good wine list, interesting beers and a well stocked bar and top with a wonderful ambiance and you have created Hearth"

  • "Always great. We always do the tasting menu, the "tour". There are always surprises, and the dishes are always superbly prepared and full of nuance. At $85, it may not be everyone's general dining experience, but it is great for special occasions or a treat."

  • "We did the 7 course tasting menu, and due to some food allergies on my part, the chef allowed us to select our savory choices. Our server was delightful and we asked her to pair our meal with some wines. Her choices were superb. At peak time it gets rather noisy, as there is background music in addition to all of the conversation."

  • "Since I first ate at Hearth when it opened, I have been thinking of their hen of the woods side dish! And now all these years later, they are just as delicious, and the rest of the food is even better and the service is extremely warming. We were very well taken care of, and, could see that everyone else is too. It was a bustling Saturday night but not overly loud and food arrived smoothly. The dishes are made with care, freshness and an eye towards not overpowering the main ingredient, be it octopus, bass or rabbit. And I'm still thinking of their hen of the woods side dish!"

  • "Our family of 6 enjoyed a wonderful dinner this past Saturday night. We started our evening with a cocktail from the bar. After our order was taken we enjoyed a complimentary “shot” of carrot soup. We ordered two bottles of wine from their outstanding wine list and both bottles were opened and allowed to breathe while we waited for our food. I had the roasted beet and carrot salad as an appetizer and was very happy with my selection. As an entrée I enjoyed the smoked chicken breast. Our table received complimentary sautéed greens & freshly made gnocchi with sage butter sauce as added side dishes. My meal ended with a cappuccino and a delicious apple cider donut. This is a gem of a restaurant."

  • "Hearth is consistently good - great wine list and very good food. Lovely E. Vill location, romantic ambiance. Service can be spotty and the overall experience can be a little over priced, but still recommended."

  • "This was my second time at Hearth and it did not disappoint. The food is unique and absolutely delicious - I've never been left unsatisfied by any dish I've tried. The drink menu is extensive and the staff is very knowledgeable about wine pairings. They are friendly and willing you accommodate any requests you have."

  • "I love this place, but the service was not on point. We came 15 minutes early for our reservation and even though there were variable tables we were told we had to wait for a table. Once we were seated, we waited a long time to have our order taken and then a long time to be seen/tended to and finally to receive the check. I would go back again and would recommend it to others, but the service isn't the best."

  • "I went here with a couple friends and very impressed - from the cocktails to the desserts. Highly recommend the gnocchi as a side, the veal meatballs and for dessert, the apple cider doughnuts! Atmosphere was nice and cozy. Will definitely come back again."

  • "First time here on the recommendation from a bartender at Gramercy Tavern...we could've guessed they wouldn't steer us wrong! Laura was our server- one of the best we've ever had! Very patient with the four of us in helping to choose the right gin, the right wine, entrees, etc! Everyone ordered something different and each one was delicious! We really appreciated that the staff never made us feel rushed and we were able to linger at our table and finish our wine after dinner. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Poached Eggs with Sausage and Kale. To DIE for. My friend got the Buckwheat pancakes and they were light and fluffy and delightful. Had a hot cider drink and a jalapeno bloody and they were also incredible. Amazing for brunch. Go! BOOK TABLE NOW!"

  • "I went for brunch. They have a great brunch menu. They have a couple different options on the mimosa. I had the blood orange which is just a twist to the traditional mimosa. Everything seemed like they used fresh ingredients. The coffee cake was fantastic, a great starter."

  • "Our server was absolutely so wonderful and so much fun. She helped us with a wine and steered us in the right direction with our food. The donuts were the stand out at the end."

  • "Came for brunch, food was delicious, especially the roasted winter vegetables and the biscuits with lamb sausage. Also had an excellent Bloody Mary. Service was surprisingly not very friendly. Appetizers were served and entrees came about 5 minutes after, so we felt rushed. Then, strangely, we waited quite a while for the check. Also, we ordered two cappuccinos, got two lattes. Would still go back for the food and the Bloody Mary."

  • "i had high expectations after a friend recommended this place, but given that there are hundreds of other suitable places for dinner, this one is most likely a one-and-done for me. the hostess was pleasant, and our waitress was attentive in the beginning, but she didn't stop by after the bread was dropped off until it was time for the check to be dropped off. most of the bread was okay, and the salads were fresh but unremarkable. the mains were a bit overpriced for what they were...$30 for rigatoni (and a good one) but...$30. the lesso misto was interesting but there was not a lot tying the dish together. the four components were good, but the broth was just okay. overall, i think there are better options around."

  • "Marco Canora's flagship restaurant is a must visit for locals and visitors alike. The menu is a blend of modern Italian cuisine with a focus of what is local and fresh. I highly recommend the gnocchi, ribollita (in the winter) and veal & ricotta meatballs."

  • "Great mix of truly excellent food from fresh locally sourced ingredients and a relaxed, homey feel. Not too noisy, easy to have a conversation. the wait staff are very attentive but not stuffy like some places in NYC. Highly recommend if you love food, great beer and great wine."

  • "Hearth is not the typical East Village restaurant. It is a bit more for adults and has been good for a really long time. The rabbit for two is excellent."

  • "I love Hearth for dinner but save it for special occasions because it is pricey. But I went for brunch and learned that the quality is just as good as dinner, but for normal "brunch" prices. Plus they take reservations for brunch, which is always a bonus. I will be back for brunch soon!"

  • "We had a wonderful meal! The venison and smoked chicken dishes were delicious and the grilled calamari was the best I've ever had. The servers were friendly, knowledgeable, and down to earth. It was a cold, snowy night, but inside Hearth it was cozy and warm. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will certainly go again. I hear they serve a beautiful brunch!"

  • "Though you'd think Hearth would lose some of its lustre after all these years, it still dazzles! Our meal was spectacular from start to finish. We had the beet and carrot appetizer, which was full of flavor and texture; ditto for the octopus starter. My striped bass and cauliflower entree was also a study in flavor and texture. Our friends made the smart choice to get the whole fish of the day, and boy were we jealous. Luckily it was so huge that we got to sample it. Desserts were delicious as well, though perhaps not quite as outstanding as the rest of the meal. Our server was lovely and the ambience just right for dinner with friends."
