Hearsay Gastro LoungeGet the Bread PuddingThe food was excellent! I especially love the bread pudding, even though I'm typically not a bread budding fan. I would definitely go back again. I hope next time the service/kitchen is a little more organized. There was confusion with the menus. We received the wrong ones at first so had to reselect our food items and then still some things listed on the new menu were not available. But, the food really made up for it. Also, love the historic location of this place; it has been beautifully restored.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat pre-performance placeI and my friends have now been to Hearsay three times in a month....we chose it because of its proximity to the Wortham, but we have gone back because of the food and service. They have great entrees, but their sides and small plates shine. Reservations and seating on time really helped us; service is attentive but not overly so. The last time we went there was a guitarist, who was great, but the music was too loud for conversations during dinner...otherwise, ambience would have been good too.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMProgressive "surprise" birthdayMy party of four enjoyed the ambience and the excellant menu choices. This was the second stop of our "Surprise" progressive birthday celebration dinner for my boyfriend. We all had an enjoyable evening6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGirls Night OutWe went to Hearsay before going to a show at the Hobby Center. It was perfect! We had a reservation at 5:30. We had drinks, a nice relaxing dinner and made it to the theatre with plenty of time before the show started at 7:30. The drink menu has lots of great drinks for a GNO and the food was excellent. Not too expensive, either!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways enjoy my trips to Hearsay.Always enjoy my trips to Hearsay. The food, drink, and location are all top-notch.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this place!Hearsay is a great spot downtown! The space is really cool, music is wonderful...the whole feel is very downtown and city. Food was excellent! I would definitely recommend going!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat BrunchVery good food, great service, great atmosphere and the mimosas flowed freely!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGood foodIt wasn't wow but the food was excellent and they were very flexible to adapt the menu to my paleo diet. Nice waiter who was friendly and professional. Would go again5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot, great drinksI have been there on multiple occasions and the place has really good food, however the table service can be improved. If you are going for just drink, their cocktails are some of the best, and their whiskey selection is phenomenal.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Bottomless Mimosas broughtThe Bottomless Mimosas brought us back to brunch at Hearsay where we enjoyed a leisurely late Sunday morning. We started with the brisket tacos [get them on corn tortillas so you get two] featuring scrambled eggs, barbecued brisket, sour cream and pico de gallo]. She had the crab benedict while I went for the brunch burger featuring bacon, cheese and a fried egg along with one of Houston's best burger patties.
We were happy to see the restaurant settle on breakfast potatoes after previous experiences with "hash browns" that changed from visit to visit.
The live music starts around 11:15 or 11:30 at which point the volume increases quite a bit. Plan accordingly depending on your preferences.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food, Drinks and ServiceIt was our first time. We travel extensively. We eat at all sorts of restaurants. We very, very rarely find a restaurant that is good enough to warrant a return visit. Your restaurant warrants many return visits.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice Sunday brunch! We were in town and chose Hearsay for Sunday brunch to celebrate our daughter's birthday. Food and service were excellent and we loved the live acoustic guitar players. Great ambience in old historic building downtown. My only issue was we were squeezed into an 8 top but had 10 in our party. The hostess refused to let us spread out to the 2 top table next to us since our reservation was for 9, ( had a last minute addition) saying they were completely booked and needed the table. That table remained empty the whole time plus several tables where still empty when we left.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMMimosa heavenFood was wonderful with a great brunch menu and bottomless mimosas outstanding5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMHearsayWe had lunch at Hearsay and loved the service and education of how it is one of the oldest buildings in Houston. We loved the expose brick and will be back to see this beautiful building at night. We had the appetizer sampler and the fish tacos. The Fish tacos were some of the best I had ever had. Definitely a must.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was pretty awfulThe service was pretty awful so as long as I don't get that same waitress I will return a lot of attitude was given when we asked about something on the menu5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden Gem DowntownHearsay is a great place for a business lunch or to hang out after work with friends. Great atmosphere with fantastic food and drinks. Recommended.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMByrd Burger is the wordThe Byrd burger is one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life - angus beef, applewood bacon, cheddar, mozzarella, onions, jalapeños, fried egg, avocado, etc! Plus, the ambiance inside of Hearsay is so unique. Great date night restaurant!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistency is key for successConsistency is key for success and Hearsay Gastro Lounge is demonstrates through their staff, menu selection, and overall dining experience dedication to bringing diners back again and again.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AM=)The food was awesome. The service was great and speedy. I will definitely be back very soon.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great, drinks wereFood was great, drinks were great, love the concept. The service was extremely slow.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat, Hip PlaceA friend recommended Hearsay- we decided to take my Mom for Mother's Day while she was in town. We made a reservation for 6pm- when we arrived it wasn't all that busy, but by the time we left, the place was slammed. The service was great- our waiter was very attentive, and answered all of our questions and made some great recommendations. I had the stuffed chicken breast, and substituted the potatoes for their "mac and four cheese," my fiance got the pork chop and mom got the rib eye. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I think it would be hard for me to go back and try anything else on the menu! It's an intimate place and the building has some history. I loved the decor and their choice of music. We'll definitely be going back!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDifferent in an impressive wayTook my wife while we were staying at Hotel ICON because she had never been. They have done such a great job of preserving and mixing in the history of the building while making it a cool place for food and drinks. The live music was most enjoyable and the food itself was excellent. The menu is quite varied if not extensive. The presentation was also impressive. There were a lot of guys crowding around a small stand-up table right behind my seat so people trying to get around them kept bumping into my chair, but it wasn't a big deal. The staff was friendly and attentive without being intrusive on our conversation.
I travel to Houston once a month, always stay at the ICON and almost always grab a dinner at the Hearsay!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and serviceGreat upstairs seating overlooking restaurant . Nice mix of ages but would probably not recommend for families. Perfect for couples and small groups. Noise level allowed for conversation at normal levels. Highly recommend this place.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful downtown spot!Had a great dinner here with my senior parents and their friends. Normally I have a hard time finding a place that they and I will agree on, but everyone really loved this restaurant. The historic building was amazing, the food selection was great, and the drinks were outstanding. Highly recommend!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFrozenAlas, we had a great evening. The service was very friendly, the food was good, the wine bottle reasonably priced.
Just, we were shocked that they could not provide the ordered burger medium rare because they informed us that their patties are all frozen, thus, medium rare would mean cold in the center of the patty.
That is, frankly, a shame for a place that is taking pride in their burgers and has them prominently on the top of their menu.
Apart from that: Very nice place.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food here is consistentlyThe food here is consistently good. The service this time was not great. We were not sure who our server was. Also, the host staff/waiters need to learn to deal with a full house with a better attitude. The place was full when we got there, and the server looked irritated that I had actually made a reservation there about 15 minutes prior to our arrival so would have to find us a table. Not cool. But otherwise, good food and mixed drinks.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat stop for drinks andGreat stop for drinks and appetizers! Would like to return and try the dinner menu!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMenjoyedwas glad there was an outdoor spot (2 tables out front) on a beautiful day. we didn't sample much of the menu but my friend had the hamburger - after hearing they were really good - which he enjoyed. i had the fish tacos, good, not outstanding. good drinks as well & great service. nice to have people opening new bars/restaurants downtown who are kind to the history and atmosphere of the buildings.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMfabulous food in downtown houstonon par with the great restaurants i frequent in northern california. nice lively ambience, fantastic service (they accommodated all our requests with improvised, creative solutions, e.g. when i wanted french baguette and they didnt have any but created a wonderful ciabatta-based item). cocktails are great. bartender & staff super friendly.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceI am a frequent visitor to Houston, but this was the first time at Hearsay. I decided to take a gamble and have our business dinner here. The cocktails were delicious and quite strong. The food was pretty good, not unique, but fairly priced and it tasted pretty good. Also they had a range of dishes from Salads, Sandwiches to higher priced entrees. The Ambiance was pretty cool as it seemed to be a converted warehouse or something.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGotta try it!This place is great! So easy to make reservations online, so you never have to wait for a table. The food is amazing and we've never had a bad plate. The St.Arnold Beer Battered Asparagus is a must. They have only local brews on tap from St.Arnold, Karbach and Buffalo Bayou. The interior is fantastic and the decor behind the bar looks like the NYC skyline when the Trade Center was still standing. The staff is friendly and helpful, but sometimes it gets so busy there's a bit of a wait to get the tab. Only complaint is the tables are very close together so it's hard to have a conversation with your dining companion if there's a larger group at the next table.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe tried various appetizersWe tried various appetizers (tomato/mozzarella flatbread, spring rolls, artisan cheeses, smoked salmon)and 2 entrees (Tuscan pasta and hamburger), and all were great!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been here multipleI have been here multiple times and the food & service are always excellent. Two in our group of six were vegetarians and the chef went out of his way to prepare something for them.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMoverall greatwent with a couple friends on a whim monday. it took like 20 minutes before our server brought us water, usually we dont have to ask for it... after this our experience was good, great food, ambience great as usual, but, also we noticed a group of people that waited at the front reading menus, cause the host was busy helping with something else, we saw they were finally seated though. usually service has been good the past couple times we came, this time its like they didnt have many people working.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMLooking for something simpleLooking for something simple on a late Sunday afternoon, we hit Hearsay and each ordered a Hearsay Burger. We paired it with a nice bottle of merlot and had just about the perfect Sunday supper.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstand food a Great date spotIt was my Boyfriend birthday . When we walked in we were greeted so warmly. We were escorted to our table in my reservation I requested a very special table and I was not dissappointed. The table over looked the entire place. It was very romantic. The only issue I had was our waiter. He seemed very disinterested in us. He barley greeted us and when I asked for a cocktail suggestion, He sighed, It was pulling teeth to get him to inneract with us. Our meal was amazing. It took forever for our waiter to come back to check on us or to asked did we need anything. I had to ask another waiter to bring me some mustard.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMNice late night spotAlways looking for a place to eat light after the theatre. This place fits the bill. Good food, good service, nice drinks.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe drinks here were delicious,The drinks here were delicious, as usual. The food was a little disappointing - we had the beer-battered asparagus, the fish tacos, and the burger. The asparagus, which I had held high hopes for, was good but not memorable. The batter could have been a bit more crunchy, and the asparagus was tough. It's hard to get asparagus tender without it being soggy, so this is understandable, but more crunch would have been nice overall. The hamburger was good - the bun was the highlight, soft and sweet - but the fries were not crispy or even particularly warm. The fish tacos were dry; could have used a sauce other than just the pico de gallo.
Our waitress was great and had plenty of recommendations for drinks. I'd give a second shot at the food.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for an early 6 pmWe went for an early 6 pm meal before a jazz concert at Wortham. Hearsay was busy with after work partiers and early eaters. Our salads were good and the fish tacos were great! The wine was good and the service was very attentive but not bothersome. We will definitely go again.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a great dining experienceHad a great dining experience after the theater the other night. Such a great place for late night dining. Had a great atmosphere and noise was at a minimum this particular night. Chef came by table. Very nice touch.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good for late night diningVery good for late night dining after the theater or symphony. Service was excellent and food was very good.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe was our first time toThe was our first time to Hearsay and it knocked our socks off. We sampled some appetizers including the deviled eggs, caprese salad, seared tuna, and crab cake. They were all gourmet tasting! The drinks were also fantastic too- in our group we sampled bourbon based drinks, vodka and campaign mix, absinthe, and gin. All were mixology style and VERY tasty! Overall, amazing find and cannot wait to return!!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome food!Came here when I was in Houston for a conference, with a group of 6. We were pretty blown away at how delicious everything was. Also, the Thursday night happy hour had some pretty amazing prices and an excellent beer variety. If you're in the area - definitely check this place out.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMa great little place witha great little place with an oustanding team. The food is always great and the service is a great match.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have only recently discoveredWe have only recently discovered Hearsay, and after three visits, it is already our favorite Houston restaurant. We FAR prefer their cocktail offerings over Anvil, which we consider to be highly overrated. The service at Hearsay is aware and attentive, and seems justifiably proud to work at a cool restaurant. The design of the interior is vibrant and stimulating, and a great place to bring anyone who appreciates style.
All this would be great on its own, but we also get to add that the FOOD IS FANTASTIC. The chefs are clearly very talented, and we have loved every meal. The pricing is very fair given how hard this restaurant is working on all of the above, and we will find ways to frequent Hearsay whenever we are downtown!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMLove Hearsay. Recommend itLove Hearsay. Recommend it to everyone. This was our first brunch there and everything was spectacular. Food was amazing. Atmosphere young and vibrant. The only complaint I have is the ordering of the bottomless mimosas. It was difficult to ever get a refill. A pitcher on the table or someone walking around would have been much more ideal (we were literally right in front of the bar so I'm not sure why we would sit empty for so long; we're not lushes, but it worked out to us each paying $12 for 2-3 which is not worth it). Music is awesome but for my parents, they would have preferred it just be a couple decibels lower so that they could hear.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot to end the night...Awesome late night spot! The fish tacos were amazing. Our waitress was very attentive and personable. Hearsay is the perfect spot for any occasion.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMy boyfriend and I stumbledMy boyfriend and I stumbled upon this restaurant. The space was very cool, it looked like an old firehouse, very dark (almost romantic dark) with high ceilings. The service was okay, our waiter neglected us a few times and even forgot my salad. The food was great: the beer battered asparagus was delicious, as was the mushroom risotto. I had the goat cheese salad, which was very tasty. But I had assumed that the cheese would be sprinkled throughout the salad, when instead it was just sitting on the side of the salad plate. My boyfriend tried the The Byrd sandwich, and loved it but couldn't even finish it because it was so large. Overall, good experience. I recommend this place to anyone looking for great food and ambience.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Happy Hour, Great VibeWe went to Hearsay for drinks and a light dinner before a symphony performance. Parked in street parking about 1 block east of the restaurant, so it was just a short convenient walk to Jones hall after dinner. I was impressed with the happy hour... a wide range of $6 cocktails, house wine and beer. I loved every drink I had, even one made with Scotch, which I don't normally drink. The food we had was tasty, probably not the most inventive things ever, but good none the less. The menu has something for everyone. I enjoyed most the atmosphere and the service. Our waiter was very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The restaurant is in a old building, and the decor really took advantage of the building's character.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMI was with a group for EasterI was with a group for Easter Brunch this past Sunday. We sat upstairs and had Jaime (sp) as a server. He was very attentive and full of jokes. He made our time at Hearsay a great and memorable experience3/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
