  • "We always visit this fabulous restaurant when our travels take us to Vancouver - and it never disappoints! Excellent food, service and very knowledgeable and friendly staff. I would recommend this as a highlight of any visit to this city."

  • "Only brunch menu on Saturday at lunch time. Would have loved to try their lunch menu, but only served on week days. Small selection of dishes, but any look good. Eggs benedict were good, but ambience is really nice."

  • "Friendly but out server was too rushed. Didn't take time to Explain/answer or recommend."

  • "Outstanding food. Creative. Expensive. Comfy chairs, beautiful chandelier. Noisy in the main room with chandelier. Service was outstanding. Friendly wait staff. Willing to please. Far room had the A/C turned up so they offered another table in the main room. Although noisier, it was warmer. I have eaten brunch & dinner several times already. Definitely a place for special occasions."

  • "I've been here before and the food was outstanding as usual. Although our appetizer came promptly, there was a bit of a lag before our lunch was served. It wasn't a big deal because the meal was fantastic - just something to keep in mind for business people with a bit of a time crunch."
    Dined on 8/13/2014
  • "Service was slow. When our breakfast arrived, I found the eggs cooked just the way I asked for them, but I found the dish overly salty. The service was really the reason why I didn't enjoy my meal, however. We had brought some work material with us and it was obvious we were there to talk business, but it took such an unreasonably long time for them to clear our dishes away when we were done. I had trouble even flagging the waitress down to request that the dishes be taken away. I had always heard good things about this restaurant, but maybe not for breakfast???"

  • "I was thrilled to be back in Vancouver again so I could come to this restaurant. I even forget to notice the noise once the food arrives. This time I had an artichoke soup that was simply the best thing I have ever tasted. The veal main course was almost as good. The restaurant just never disappoints."

  • "I love this restaurant! I have been four times and have never been disappointed."

  • "One of the better meals we've had in a long time. Great, fresh food with extensive wine list and waiter was knowledgable in wine selection. loved every course. highly recommend for a nice dinner."

  • "Hawksworth tries to make every aspect of every item on the plate special. They overdo it. The flavour of the foie gras was almost lost under layers of aspic and decoration. The halibut was overcooked and served with a tasteless black olive crust (which was not a crust but more resembling paste). Overall it's a nice place for a quiet drink and first class service but the food needs less work to allow the flavours of the dish to shine."

  • "I was impressed with some dishes and the service. Not impressed with the noise and the usual neglegt of vegetables. 3 stripped beans, a slice of banana and a few roasted eggplant strips don't work for me. A real good chef wants to serve season vegs from a good farm and will be frugal with the use of salt. Why all the drizzle in all colours on every single plate?? In the end one gets a good piece of fish and the rest is nonsense."

  • "We decided on the tasting menu for a group of 4. I don't think I have ever appreciated wine pairings as much as tonight. The dishes were exceptional on their own but the flavours were intensified immensely with the pairings. Wonderful choices, and each course was exceptional. Starting with the Beef carppacio in truffle oil and truffles.... the first course and possibly the most memorable. This is a must try for any foodie that can appreciate a wide array of foods. Thanks for the great experience !"

  • "Limited overpriced menu. This restaurant is living on it's reputation. We visited several other restaurants in Vancouver that were more reasonably priced with better food."

  • "Each course on the tasting menu was perfect with imaginative textures and flavours and impeccable presentation. Staff were attentive and informative."

  • "Having dined here for dinner we were expecting the same high standard for brunch. We were very disappointed! Food was unimaginative, my sablefish frittata was dry and chewy and our other meals were lukewarm. We waited more that 45minutes for it to arrive. Will not be going back for brunch."

  • "We were anticipating brunch at one of the most highly regarded restaurants in Vancouver. The decor was very upscale, modern and refined, but our dining experience was not a match. Service was slow (which can be alright if the food is good), but the food, when it came, was terrible!! In our $26 halibut pasta dish, there were 2 shrimp, some pea sized pieces of over cooked halibut, undercooked (dried?) pasta that was stuck together and a sauce that can only be described as horrible. Too intense, too salty... Whatever it was, it was certainly botched. This must certainly be a mistake! So we asked for them to redo the dish. Same thing! My husband didn't want to give it a third try, but I ordered steak instead. Better, but still not worth $24!"

  • "The restaurant is beautiful and the service is perfect, friendly and not pretentious at all. Our food was good and well executed but nothing new and adventurous there. It's honest cooking with great presentation. Most of our dish were very tasty but 2 of them were way too salty (salmon tartar and the diced tomatoes on the sliced bread served with the prosciutto). We loved our experience and would definitely go back but they'll have to step up their game and taste their food more before serving if they want to be at the top. When you charge that much for a meal everything has to be perfect."

  • "Our 3rd visit to Hawksworth. The waitress and sommelier were both quite engaging as well as helpful. The menu is manageable, with choices that would suit any palate. (Okay, I did not look for vegetarian selections.) The wine list is intimidating in its scope and pricing. An excellent BC wine like the Orofino Beleza, which normally costs $34, will set you back $92 here. And you can spend $4K+ on some aged Bordeaux. Crazy! But there's no arguing about the quality of the food, service, presentation, and ambience. Try the Cassis Almond Tart for dessert."

  • "We had the tasting menu and it was incredible. The service was exceptional as well. This restaurant lived up to the hype. So many great cocktails to choose from and very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Very high-end and special without being stuffy or pretentious."

  • "I have been a fan of David Hawksworth's cuisine and vision since he first returned to Vancouver and launched West on Granville St. Attention has been paid to every detail. I am a regular for mid-morning breakfast, as it is relatively quiet, easy to get a reservation. Without compromising taste, they are able to accommodate my dietary needs, dairy free- gluten free, Love the Arnold Bennett Omelet , big enough for two to share and a bowl of fresh berries, and an almond milk latte."

  • "For us, Europeans who eat out often and well, Hawksworth was a disappointment. From the moment we entered and had to place our jackets on the back our chairs I feared we could be in for a bumpy ride. No table cloths, ok, but the marble tables and other surfaces amplified the already extreme noise level. Paris bistro distances between tables doesn't help. Seems people are here to see and be seen, the food, though good, is an afterthought. The wait staff was good, but the table was not clean. When we said that we were fine with tap water, the waiter stated that the bottled water was on him. We were charged for three bottles. Ultimately the noise level ruined it for us - if your after a DINING experience, there are better options in Vancouver."

  • "We were pleased the restaurant allowed my wife and I to choose tasting menu and a la carte individually. Exceptional wine pairing. A dish was substituted when it did not meet expectations without question. Pleasant and efficient service."

  • "My colleagues took me there for lunch ... we both had the halibut. It was so tasty, each mouthful generated a new flavour. We sat outside - it was noisy due to the lunch time traffic on W Georgia. Service was excellent. Will definitely go back."

  • "I've been to Hawksworth a few times and always a good to average meal. This time around we ordered from the tasting menu with wine pairing. This was easily the best meal I've ever had at any Vancouver restaurant. The food and wine pairings were perfectly matched enhancing the flavours of each. It's a pricey fare but worth every cent."

  • "My wife and I came for our 1st wedding anniversary. We've been a few times before, and once again, we were not disappointed. I had the pork belly to start. The meat was full of flavour and fell apart when cutting. For dinner, I had the elk strip loin. I really enjoyed the plating, which had a ton of green themed sides. The combination of flavours and visuals made for a really stunning dish. My wife had the prosciutto to start. The combination of the prosciutto, walnut, and cream was divine. And for dinner, she enjoyed the squab. The meat was very tender and moist. I highly recommend this dish. We finished off the night with the white chocolate. A nice, light finish to a great evening. The service, as always, was top notch."

  • "The Hawksworth certainly lived up to all the reviews. I described the first course to the waiter as a cacophony of flavours. The food was sublime and we struggled to choose from the lunch menu as there were so many wonderful options. The attention to detail was excellent and the service was most charming and not over bearing. Unique food blending flavours so well, great place - not to eat here would be just plain silly."

  • "Food was absolutely fantastic!! The service was exceptional. Only thing i can say is the food portion were a bit small for the high price point. Recommend for special occasions!"

  • "When we were vacationing in Vancouver, I did a lot of research and decided that Hawksworth would be the right choice for my wife's birthday. My wife has a lot of food issues and they could not have been more accommodation. Despite eliminating a number of ingredients, her dinner was outstanding both in presentation and preparation. She was very pleased with the entire experience. I have no such issues but guild guiding my choices and my dinner was great. The server was excellent and although we each had a single glass of wine, their suggestion for each of us was perfect .They also prepared a non menu item for desert that again addressed her food allergies and we did not suffer a simple desert-it was scrumptious."

  • "We celebrated a birthday at Hawksworth and were overwhelmed by the excellence. The food was as close to perfect as food can get. The service was professional, but never obsequious, no snobbery, just friendly attentive staff. The rooms are lovely, the chairs very comfortable. But the food....oh the food!!! We are going back to try brunch. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Tasting menu very good but portions a bit large. Don't understand why they charge for bread, was not spectacular. Also charged to make a substitution for dessert. Thought that was unnecessary since it did not seem we were upgrading."

  • "As a special treat we finally got to eat at Hawksworth. As we entered in, the dining room was almost full. Hype is always detrimental when going to a place which has won many awards. Our waiter was fun, and professional. With out him the evening would have been a let down . Cudos also to our sommelier who picked a great wine for us. Now to the food. Firstly we were amazed at the absence of amuse bouche. Instead we were asked if we wanted some bread. The bread that arrived was pathetic. Our menu was more reflective of winter fare than summer. Duck confit, foie gras torchon, sous vide short ribs, and elk steak did not reflect summer fare. Our meal had many let downs. This review will not let me list them all. I wish I never went"
