Havenchicken dishThe fried chicken with the 2 sides was enough for 2 people and there were leftovers to be brought home. It was the best restaurant chicken that I have had. In regards to the sides, it is not anywhere that one can get spoetzel which was delicious! The other side was creamed cabbage which was different, but I will try the greens next time since they are supposed to be really good.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic dinnerThe food is always so thoughtful. Fresh and flavorful, interesting takes on traditional food. One of the true gems in Houston.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSmall extravegancesThe Heirloom tomato Sundae was truly exquisite - a must
Fish and shrimp also delicious - but overpriced as was the dessert - I should not have left hungry but the Food was delicious, fresh and presented well....portions were just way too small all around.
Daughter would not recommend the quail entre5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday DinnerI took my wife here for her birthday. Although it was a Monday night and the ambiance wasn't what we've experienced at Haven before, our server, Natalie, was still on her "A" game. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and wine selection, and gave just the right amount of attention. The food was outstanding as usual, and their wine list is tough to rival. We'll be back!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day GiftI have dined here for lunch on several occasions, however this time my mother and I enjoyed a wonderul brunch. The cocktails were great and the food was delicious. It was not crowded so we could still hear each other speaking, while enjoying the light music in the background.
I even had plenty to take home for left overs. Definitely would recommend this place again.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food, Service, LocationThird visit, this time for Mother's Day brunch.
Fixed price menu had plenty of choices. Snapper with shrimp seasoned well. Chocolate ice box pie is best anywhere.
Very importantly they honored our request for a quiet table off the main dining room.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great experienceGreat experience here for Mother's Day dinner. We typically wouldn't bring children, but for mother's day we did. They were so welcoming of our bunch and we were so grateful! Excellent service. Waiting times between courses can be a bit long, so enjoy your cocktails and eat slowly! Amusements platter was delish (deviled eggs, pickled beets, celery with homemade pimiento cheese). Gaspacho with lump crabmeat was refreshing but the Crawfish Beignets were absolutely divine and won our hearts. Lambchops and Fish and Shrimp were cooked so well, roasted vegetables also great. The coconut bread pudding was so creamy and delicious. We will be back.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day CelebrationWe enjoyed a terrific experience at Haven this past Mother's Day. It was lunch for the family out on the deck. What an experience. Attentive, friendly - real - service from the moment we sat down. We had brunch specialties, all of which were made with high quality, fresh ingredients that were prepared perfectly. We will be back!! Thanks for an excellent, relaxing dining experience.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentMade a reservation for Mother's day and had no problem getting in. There weren't as many people as there normally is at Mother's day brunch but that was nice because it wasn't too crowded. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. I really enjoyed the portion size since most meal are two large for me. All and all I would go again and bring others.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMlovely dining experienceOutdoor patio was pleasant -- does not seem 100 yards from Hwy 59. Salads are exceptional, the queen snapper w/ head-on shrimp top quality and tasty, as was the amber-jack on quinoa. even the post dinner espresso was better than I've had anywhere else I can remember.
Patrick, our server, was top-knotch.
Hope to return many times.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMCouldn't wait to get backI've been to Haven twice within the last 2 weeks and was not disappointed again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousI would completely recommend this restaurant. For appetizers, we had a little bit of everything. the shimp & grits (I could eat those grits everyday for every meal) & the corndogs were raved about. For the main course, I had the free range chicken with the spatzle. It was absolutely heavenly. I couldn't stop eating it!! I got a side of roasted vegetables which I recommend as we'll. the dessert was by far the est part. Get the coconut bread pudding. You could even skip the meal and just get that. The pecan pie was delicious as well.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMHaven is AmazingI love everything about this restaurant. The décor was beautiful. The fountain outside is a photo opportunity. The food was incredible. My waitress was very attentive. I have nothing bad to say. I will return.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMRepeat PerformanceI'm never disappointed by my meal at Haven. The food is consistently always tasty and I love some of the new items being put on the menu especially the Bayou Stew.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMMeh.Overall it was fine. I wouldn't tell any one not to go but it is certainly not a place that I would suggest either. I had the chicken enchiladas which were actually pretty tasty and well seasoned. My friend had the fish special which came out a little dry and just so-so. I would like to go back for happy hour to try the shrimp corn dogs.
The service was great. The waiter was very attentive and I never ran out of water.
Bottom line - if you have to eat something in this neighborhood this isn't a bad choice but don't go out of your way to get here.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite find in HoustonI have been visiting the Houston area for the past 6 years. Haven has been the best find. Great appetizers perfect for sharing a bunch for the table. My entree of tile fish bayou stew was outstanding. The jack and coke float for dessert was very tasty but the homemade cream cheese cheesecake was beyond good. Wine list is very affordable. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. We can't wait to come back next year.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMNice ExperienceGreat food, great ambiance, service was okay...seemed inexperienced and water refill took too long. Prices are a little too high for such a comfortable menu...even though food was upscale...could come down a little. Probably will only go back for a special occassion once or twice a year.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic first visitThis was our first visit to Haven for everyone in our party of six. Everyone absolutely loved their food & found it to be unique, delicious and well prepared. Service was attentive. We will definitely be back!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMHaven never disappoints.Outstanding as always, with a great mix of the inventive and the familiar. Really one of Houston's gems.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBlue plate specials for lunchBlue plate specials for lunch on weekdays are delicious and a great deal at $10.
Their French press coffee is the best I've had in a restaurant setting in Houston.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMService was kind of sketchyService was kind of sketchy but food was outstanding.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst Time Awesome and Will be BackThis was my first visit to haven having had it on my list to try for a long time and it did not disappoint. My dining companion and I had the shrimp corn dogs and heirloom tomoato sundae to start. The "ice cream" on the tomato salad was so refreshing with the delicious fresh tomatoes. We then shared the family style fried chicken dinner which was amazing. Loved the gravy, cheddar grits, friedn green tomato croutons and crispy brussels sprouts on the side (although the sprouts were not as expected, but still yummy). Great cocktails and wine selection. And, the patio is a great option given its space and lovely waterfall. Will definitely be back for lunch to try the chicken fried steak I saw on the menu here but is only for lunch!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMStellar food and serviceThe food was creative and amazing. There were several dishes that at first sound questionable, but came out fabulous. Our server helped guide us through some of the unusual sounding combination and made wonderful recommendations.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat , easy spot for a recentGreat , easy spot for a recent lunch (but also good for dinner). Lovely patio if the the weather cooperates. Food is always consistently good. Love their salted dinner rolls. Menu has some staples, but also changes with the season. Daily lunch specials are a good value. try fr the fried oyster tostado.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMService was impeccable, ambienceService was impeccable, ambience great. I didn't enjoy the food as much- the quality was good, just not my taste.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always the food and serviceAs always the food and service were great. PortionGreat meal for lunch. Portion size was good. The restaurant was not very full, but it still had a comfortable ambiance.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWaiter did a great job atWaiter did a great job at providing wine by the glass suggestions to match each item of the meal. Attentive and discreet service.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat time. Great food. WaiterGreat time. Great food. Waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly but was incredibly slow. Been there twice and enjoyed it. But the waiter left us alone for an extended time (both visits) before taking our order. Perhaps that's your style and my father would love the slow relaxed pace. I, however would prefer more prompt service.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMInnovative brunch items distinguishInnovative brunch items distinguish Haven from the routine brunches3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMVery, very nice except forVery, very nice except for the loud noise from the kitchen.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMHaven is our favorite restaurant.Haven is our favorite restaurant. Wonderful seasonal Texas farm-fresh food. Excellent service. Support local!3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful FoodThird time to Haven, but first time to order off the menu. Prior visits were for set meals. Fresh ingredients, nice presentations, and very tasty. Haven can be noisy, but we went on a Tuesday night and it was nice and quiet. Also has large outdoor seating area.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWondedrful evening at HavenWondedrful evening at Haven last evening. Greg, our server, was informative, congenial and look forward to his suggestions next time. He suggested Beignet appetizer (yummy) a great fish dish and the pound cake for dessert ended the evening with the taste of chantilly cream and curd lingering. We will be back for sure!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMHaven Really Is A Good NameEating at Haven with Randy Evans at the head of the kitchen is what it's like to never, ever worry about anything. The menu is interesting, but it's just as interesting to let the chef choose for you and delight you with something you might not have otherwise eaten. The table service is superb, intelligent, and well-timed. No one ever interrupts a conversation to ask you if you're doing alright, and yet, glasses never get empty and finished dishes don't linger.
But the real point is this: everyone I saw -- from Randy down to the bus-staff -- seemed totally relaxed and happy to be there. You can taste that vibe in the food, you feel it in the atmosphere, and it ends up affecting you, and you'll leave happier & more at ease than you arrive3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat bar specials and cocktails,Great bar specials and cocktails, fantastic grits, fresh gulf fish, and service was impeccable3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I went to theMy wife and I went to the raw bar called Cove at Haven for happy hour and bar bites. Overall it was pretty good.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMYou must try! This past weekend was the first time my husband and I visited Haven, and we will definitely go back. The food was simply fabulous - fresh, perfectly prepared, and the right portions. I had no trouble finding several delicious choices, despite being on a low carb diet. Our service was just right - attentive without pestering us. My only criticism is how close the tables for two are to each other. I do not like sitting so close to another couple that I can hear their conversation, particularly when the restaurant is somewhat noisy anyway. Next time, we will either sit outside (too cool for that this time) or request a more remote table. The restaurant itself is lovely, albeit completely buried off the 59 feeder. :)3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience. Pork bellyGreat experience. Pork belly appetizer had nice crunch and wonderful green chile sauce.Very flavorful. Quail perfectly prepared and delicious. However, I thought that the Jalapeno cornbread stuffing was a bit soggy and did not have enough jalapeno zing. My wife thought the free range chicken was very good. Nice wine list although not much at low end. Some wines on list not available and vintages not as noted. Will definately be back.1/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat go to place. I haveGreat go to place. I have been for a girls night dinner, with my husband for our anniversary, and a work group and was excellent each time.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
