A restaurant concept that’s a first-of-its-kind for the nation’s fourth largest city; the “green building” design, created by Collaborative Projects, paired with Chef Randy Evans’ regional Texas cuisine. Evans delights diners with a farm-to-table menu of seasonal produce, artisan cheeses and meats sourced from Texas farmers. Gulf shrimp corn dogs, homegrown tomatoes with capriella mozzarella, deviled farm eggs, Texan wild boar chili, bacon spaetzle, free range chicken, all star on a seasonal, ever-changing menu that also pays homage to Lone Star favorites such as Akaushi steaks and Junior League-style desserts.   • "For my birthday, we tried Haven for the first time. Our reservation was promptly honored, my quibble being that we were seated at a table directly in front of the entrance to a banquet room, so people were constantly opening and closing the sliding doors in back. There were several tables that remained empty for the entire evening so I am not sure why we were seated at such an undesirable table. I mentioned this to our waiter on our way out. On a more positive note, our waiter, Dan, was great. He suggested a good bottle of wine and was attentive without being overbearing. Our dinners were outstanding, including a delicious grouper with a jalapeno poundcake and a perfect flatiron steak. We'll be back, hopefully to sit at at better table!"

  • "Haven is a wonderful restaurant which incorporates a number of locally sourced food items in its menu. In addition to my most recent dinner there, I have attended special dinners hosted by Haven, usually for charitable purposes, including a dinner for HMNS a few weeks ago which celebrated pollination, with honey and items incorporating honey taking center stage. As for, my most recent visit, we started with a crawfish beignet, then I had a peach and arugala salad, and finished with a vegetarian main course with a ratatouille stuffed tomato, all of which were excellently prepared and presented. My spouse, daughter and son-in-law were equally pleased with their seafood and beef main courses."

  • "Loved the seafood options in the buffet! Even though we arrived close to the time the buffet ends, the food was all fresh and any items that would empty got filled up right away. The bacon jam is to die for - don't miss it! Our server was very nice and the bottomless mimosas are perfect - not too juicy and not too strong."

  • "I love Haven for drinks (on the patio or in the Cove bar). Lunch is always great - for business or for meeting girl friends. Dinner was lovely too. Really and truly every dish I've had here has been delicious. In a city where so many hot spots are over hyped, Haven is a consistent delight, yet forward thinking. The last dish I had there was seared tuna accompanied by the largest red juicy homegrown tomato I've had on a long time. It could make you slap your mamaw. The seafood is always fresh and the wine list is solid. Go enjoy!"

  • "I had reservations for a party of four. The service was slow, it took 45 minutes to receive our lunch order - and we all ordered salads. One of the salads tasted as if it had grit in it. When we inquired about the delay in receiving our food, our server told us there was a large table seated. That should have had no impact on my table as we had RESERVATIONS. For the price, I would expect better service and better quality of food. I will not return."

  • "Arriving about 8:00 on a Monday evening and the place still about 2/3 full, we enjoyed excellent, unobtrusive service, truly delectable and innovative cooking and a lovely bottle of wine suggested by the knowledgable steward. As we had business to discuss, we did not mind the relative quiet of the thinning crowd. On other evenings closer to the weekend this place requires reservations into the later dining hours and emits an energetic buzz, the cold bar offering a happy spot for a pretty, energetic crowd. Haven remains among my favorites in Houston, easily in the Top 10."

  • "The Southern themed buffet has enough variety to keep all people satisfied, yet is small enough to where the chefs can keep all items fresh and hot. It is lined up in front of the kitchen where the chefs are standing and ordering the kitchen the replace the small batch items as needed. The salads/ceviche have flair from Cove (so you know it is the freshest seafood and ingredients), fresh made jams, kolaches, cheese grits, and deviled eggs all called my name. Highlight was the unlimited fried chicken! If the items on th line do not completely excite you, they offer made to order eggs and salads (looked great on other tables, but we felt no need). Save room for dessert and stick around for the live music and bottomless mimosas."

  • "We started out at Cove-delicious marlin. At Haven, great crawfish beignets with creamed spinach/feta, bread(was it salt rising?), bayou seafood stew. Reasonably priced pouilly fuisse. Very pleasant. Finished up with sippin' bourbon at Cove. Great evening. Oh, and the Brussels sprout side was very tasty."

  • "The service was good, and the ambience was great. The kitchen seemed a bit backed up and our food was some what delayed, but my palate wanted more from the meal. Not saying that the portions were not to size, or that the food was under cooked, just the flavors were exactly what was on my plate. My Carrots tasted like carrots, my fish tasted like fish and so on. I didn't feel enticed by meal...kinda uneventful flavor wise. "

  • "first taste of Haven was at the Sugar Land Grand Wine Food Affair.mThe food was really good -spoke with one of the managers. Upon arriving they only offer Valet, They had a 4 or 5 piece band playing in the foyer, sounded good, was ask inside or out, we sat out. That nice music you could not hear nor anything but the highway. They had speaker outside but it played nothing. The host that sat us, name was Emma, didn't smile, didn't say 2 words to us, first representation of the place not good. Food portions were small but we left full.overall was over priced. Decor of the place-boring!!!! Nothing special inside or out. We eat out 3-4 times per week and we both concluded we would not be going back to Haven, better options in Houston. "

  • "Nice concept to feature local sustainable produce & such. Dishes were lacking in continuity. For example the fried oyster tostada was simply 4 fried oysters, a fried corn tortilla topped with tons of iceberg lettuce, a few shaved radishes, & an avocado creme drizzle. The dish was poorly presented & made no sense. Pricing was way too high also, for what was offered. All in all a nice concept that seemed to be put out by a recent culinary school graduate or inexperienced chef. Service was very attentive & nice..but didn't make up for the poor cuisine."

  • "We had our best foody buds in town for dinner and the night was cool enough to sit outside. The inside was almost empty. Wait staff was in no hurry. Pleasant enough but clear we weren't a priority. Chef Randy was off that night too. Special was grouper, one of my faves. I encouraged our friends to try it. It came out in a nice presentation, but was very over cooked hard, and dry. We both left more than half of it. The fish stew was just ok, the tuna was the best entree. The novelty shrimp corn dogs are always good. We one piece of the layer cake and four forks for dessert and nobody took a second bite. We left apologizing for our choice of places.. Not a good experience this time."

  • "This was the second weekend that Haven offered Sunday Brunch and it was good. I loved the unique salads...broccoli salad, pickled cauliflower, shrimp couscous, pickled green tomatoes were all excellent. The fried chicken was the best I have ever tasted; very light batter and not absorbed with grease. The grits were wonderful, not sticky or too watery...the larger grains were quite smooth. The gumbo was tasty, the seafood (oysters and shrimp) was very fresh; but, needed a bit more seasoning. For the price, though, I believe more meats should be added to menu..,bacon,roast beef, grilled chicken, etc. Wasn't impressed with pastries...tasted like the ones you throw away when no one is looking. Ice cream was tasty. I hope the menu expands a bit."

  • "I have eaten at Haven many times for lunch, but dinner was just OK. I had the gumbo and the rice was underdone and the rue was runny. It also did not have much spice. The best part was the crawfish beignets for an appetizer...though they were not beignets...they were puffs, but they were yummy!"

  • "We started our Saturday dinner with the shrimp corn dogs [3 to an order] and the fried crawfish beignets [3 as well]. We loved the shrimp. We thought the beignets were okay--they're more like spanakopita filled with crawfish. Neither fish of the day appealed to us and so our eyes focused on the family chicken dinner. We're glad they did as we enjoyed terrific fried chicken. You get 8 pieces [2 breasts, 2 thighs, 2 legs and 2 wings] along with two sides and gravy. We went with the broccoli rice and the bacon spatzle, both of which were serviceable but not nearly as good as the chicken. Next time we might opt for the jalapeno sausage dressing. The space is nicely designed and does feel a little like a Haven when you enter."

  • "This was the first brunch that Haven has had, so maybe things will get better. But I didn't feel that the food or service was even worth the $24.50/person I paid with a TravelZoo deal, much less the $29/person that they normally charge for brunch. Also, when it was time to leave, they made me pay tax on the amount I paid for the deal, which was ridiculous. I have never had to pay tax in addition to a deal I have already purchased. I also did not think the service was that great. I will probably not eat here again."
