Diner Reviews
  • "I was expecting more..I planned a 30th birthday for 5 of us..hostess was a pure ditz..food was pretty good for a rooftop but drinks were ok for the price sangria n margarita should have been much stronger..ambiance is ok not much to see I thought we would have a better view..still outside is decorated nice and it's clean..our table was right near kitchen n a computer and it was such a tight squeeze we were a lil upset..my frien enjoyed herself though we all would have liked a better d.j so we were able to dance near the bar after eating. We ate after 11pm so we figured it would get busy and music would get louder and place would be a but more fun but we weren't much impressed.mi would recommend for a date but not a group of people."

  • "Very happy environment, our waitor Ryan was very attentive and the food service was quick and efficient. The website described it to be more like a formal dining experience I thought however we still had a great meal!!"

  • "Some friends recommended Haven Rooftop after celebrating their son's birthday there. My daughter wanted to go before summer's end so I surprised her with Friday night dinner. The Haven is located on the rooftop of Sanctuary Hotel which is itself a very cool place. From the moment we arrived,we were made to feel welcome, doorman took us through the lobby to elevator & told us to take stairs from 9th floor up to Haven. At the top, we were greeted again very courteously, & though we were half an hour early for our reservation, we were sat immediately. I liked the way the tables and comfortable chairs were set up with bar in the corner. My margarita was delicious, the guacamole was perfect. Mesclun salad good. My daughter loved her pasta dish."

  • "This venue is strictly drinks and blowing off steam after work...not a dinner venue."

  • "The food was great, the drinks were well made, the service was wonderful. And everything would have been just dandy, except because of the volume of the music, I couldn't have a conversation with someone unless my mouth was within a foot of their ear. Makes it *really* hard to engage other human beings, that way. We even tried sitting at a dinner table outside the bar area, but it was still overloud (though a little less so). I know the physiology of loudness and bars. I know loud music makes people drink more. (see http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/addiction/news/20080718/loud-bar-music-makes-you-drink-more) But this was ridiculous. If you do go, I recommend the tuna tartare and the shrimp-and-shaved-brussel-sprout salad."

  • "Haven rooftop has a very fun, chic yet romantic vibe. The lounge area is comfy to just have some fun, have some cocktails and talk with friends while the seating area is more nice to eat with friends or a lover and enjoy the view. Overall a wonderful place."

  • "Was charged for 3 bottles of wine, but only ordered 2. Food was nondescript. A vegetable taco (vegan) meal was ordered and arrived soaked in butter. Had to send back but was rectified. Service slow. Happy hour was 4 - 6 we arrived at 5 but was informed discounted drinks could only be order at bar not table. Rooftop dining was not high enough, so the view was restricted to looking into office windows. I would recommend you skip this place and enjoy one of the other many rooftop experiences that NYC has to offer."

  • "Place was cool. Ambiance was there. While food was good, some of the choices seemed a bit extra. Sometimes you just want a normal dish without all the funny extras. A tad pricey, but what we had was good."

  • "This has to be perhaps one of the worst restaurants I have been to. I ordered a penne pasta with chicken. For $20 I expect at least a meal that was not microwaved. The grilled chicken was dry and looked like it came right out of a frozen bag from Costco. My friend ordered a steak and she said it was ok. However, my meal came 15 minutes before her's did and all I could do was wait for her's to come while my meal got cold sitting there. What is worse, when I asked the server about it she said it was the kitchen's fault and not her job to make sure food comes out on time. I disputed the "mandatory" 18% gratuity and I had to explain to the server why she does not deserve that and that it is her job to make sure the food comes out on time."

  • "The view, setting, and decor were great, but the service was awful. They state on their menu that the 18% gratuity is included in all checks, but this clearly makes it so staff don't care about providing a good experience seeing as their tips don't depend on it. - Hostess ignored us while we stood directly in front her waiting to confirm our reservation for about 2 minutes. - Waitress took forever to take our drink orders, forgot to come back and check IDs 5 minutes later, then didn't get our drinks to us until 10 minutes after that. - We weren't offered another round until we were ready to leave. - Two salads apparently took 30 minutes to prepare with few other customers - We were charged for every single refill of soda water."

  • "The service was horribly unattentive. Waitress had no idea what she was doing and in my opinion didn't care because she knew she was receiving an 18% gratuity regardless of her service since it is put on every single check. The hostess gave us a limited menu, we had no idea until the couple next to us received a full dinner menu. We were robbed of a full dining experience. When asking the manager why, he looked dumbfounded and clueless. He said it was because they didn't have many of the small menues left, if this was so why did we get a small menu. He didn't make any sense and had no clue how to run a restaurant. Coming from the industry myself, thhis is unacceptable. Very bad experience. Food wasn't bad, but nothing special."

  • "Great place to hang out with friends. But make sure you have reservations otherwise the wait is long. I was able to make reservations same night and when we got there the manager personally came down to fetch us. Once upstairs we were asked to wait by the bar for seating which took about 20 minutes. The bartender was great and the martini was amazing. It was a little too loud but I guess that's expected."

  • "We expected a good rooftop bar, but being close to Time Square, it was a tourist Haven. We arrived late but the host was gracious and found us a table. I ordered a $15 Mohito at the bar while we waited; it was awful, truly awful. The patrons were your typical Times Square denizens - no style. The decor goes for "cool" and misses the mark, coming off as cheap instead. Once seated, our waitress was very nice but not a pro; she replaced my Mohito - better than the first but still bad. We ordered from the menu of random dishes from trendy cuisines; Our food was actually alright - nothing special but better than I expected. Overall, very average, and won't be back. There are far better. aThe drinks were"

  • "way too noisey , food used to be good , menu way to small we used to come often but it went downhill"
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "Service can be better. I go to Haven regularly and I deal with the crappy service b/c of the outdoor space. The food is good, service needs major improvement. It usually takes 15-20 minutes to get the first round of drinks and I would be surprised if entrees were on the table within an hour."
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "Horrible service. Waited an hour to be seated with a reservation. Waiter was beyond poor. Took an hour to bring our or salads. When we cancelled the rest of our meal we still had to pay the $10 included in our meal tip. Worst dining experience in the city."

  • "Upon arrival my partner was stopped by two gentlemen before stepping out of the elevator as to why he was there. I am hoping it was not a racial thing because he is African American. Our waitress was cordial to my partner but very rude to me... We were seated next to a birthday party that was giving lap dances and twirking at the table...Not exactly what we expected. I realize they knew we were only 18 but we are paying just like the next customer. So, overall experience poor I would NEVER recommend or return to the Haven Rooftop!!!!!"

  • "Our visit to the Haven was so wonderful! I was there with my daughter and 10 year old grandson, and we each had a wonderful meal. I was surprised about the variety in the menu. My daughter is a pescatarian, and she was very satisfied with the choices. My grandson couldn't get enough of the tiramisu. Neither could we. It was busy, but there was a positive energy."

  • "Haven rooftop is nothing special. It is a nice rooftop that happens to be part of a hotel that happens to be smack in the middle of midtown and Times Square. It is on the 10th floor and you are surrounded by taller buildings. Music is played at a volume that you can still have conversation during dinner. My main complaint is the ludicrous prices they think they can charge people. Although the food and drinks were good, a Mixed drink is $17! Food is overpriced as well. They also close at 1AM for some reason. This is a good date spot, but There are many other rooftops to choose from which are nicer, a little cheaper and provide much more bang for your buck. I will not come back here again."

  • "The food and service here is only surpassed by the great view. Everything we ordered was delicious."

  • "Ambiance is beautiful, service was horrible. Had to ask a waitress for service when he refused another waitress look around to see if anyone else would help before saying she will do it with an attitude. Food was moderate and menu is minimum. Drinks was good, but overpriced for 2 people and still have 18% gratuity. More rooftop selections in the city, skip if possible."

  • "Went with coworkers for happy hour. It's a fun rooftop spot and the drinks, truffle fries and tuna tartare are great! However, we had a reservation, but we couldn't all sit until we were all there...meaning we had to get drinks at the bar even with our reservation, which was frustrating. Then we were seated and enjoying, when a big group 2.5 hours late for their reservation showed up. The restaurant asked us to leave our table and go to the bar. We politely declined...we had to wait 30 minutes for one person in our group to arrive and even once we were all there, we were made to wait for our table. My point in this description is 1. make sure your whole group arrives on time. 2. be patient and flexible...and you will enjoy this place!"
    Dined on 8/5/2014
  • "We waited over an hour to get the food, meanwhile others that got there after us received the food before us and they charged 18% gratuity on top of taxes which was not covered by the groupon according to the waitress, so I would like to know something like that before buying a groupon to a restaurant again. But I don't think I'll ever consider going there again, I didn't receive the minimum service deserved for my money."

  • "Do not be fooled by the appeal of a mid-town rooftop restaurant with what appear to be reasonably priced menu options. While the setting is nice, you would be better off eating at McDonald's or any one of the other chains that dominate this area. The food was atrocious. Of particular (bad) note was the "white pizza," which more than likely emerged frozen from a box shortly before being toasted and "plated" (dropped on a plate with not a single thought to presentation). The sliders were also terrible (stale, grocery store buns and gristly, cooler than room temperature patty). I'm sure that a steady stream of the un-or ill-informed will keep this place around for some time to come, but I doubt very highly anyone would every come back for more"
