"The food was startlingly good.

I always feel that if I praise one dish, I am “dissing” the others. That is not the case here. The standouts for me were:

The mousse with rhubarb. A world class dish. Innovative, fascinating mixture of flavors and textures. Just great.
The sturgeon with oxtail. I never order “surf n’ turf.” In fact, I never eat in a restaurant with “n” as a middle name (Grog n’ Brew, Keg n’ Steak, you get the idea). Also, I never drink a good Bordeaux with fish (ugh). This dish was the exception to both rules. The combination of fish and oxtail (amazing on its own) with black rice and sweated greens was brilliant. It went perfectly with our 98 Leoville las Cases."

"This was the 3rd time I've been to Haven in the last few weeks. I love the food there. The first 2 times we were also charmed by the assistant manager/sommelier. By the 3rd visit he was not longer there. The staff was very attentive but extremely stiff and frankly they made us very uncomfortable. I still love the food and also love that they are in Oakland and in Jack London Square. But this 3rd time it was not FUN with a "buzz" ambiance like the first 2 times. Plus, why do they have a 2 bottle minimum for "brought-in" wine no matter how many diners at the table? I can understand if they increase the corkage after 2 bottles, but that is so tight. They don't have that punishing limit at Bocanova across the way!I want good food & FUN!"

"We eat at too many places where the food is oversalted and greasy - Haven WAS a haven from all these stuffy places. Just good food and great service from Scott. Had a wheelchair in our group and there was a perfect table for us in a corner!"

"Just wonderful. Dan our bartender was beyond words. We decided to eat at the bar and forgo our reserved table and Dan looked after all of our needs. Sweet, attentive, easy-breezy. Had a wonderful night!"
