Haven Gastropub + Brewery, Pasadena reviews from OpenTable diners
  • Beer better than food

My husband and I are into checking out gastropubs and decided on Haven for dinner. The service was good and the menu seemed to have good variety. I don't drink beer, but my husband said that the beer selection was far better than their food. The food is good, it's just not what you'd really expect of a gastropub. The portions are small and you need sides and apps to fill you up. Fries don't even come with the burger, you have to pay $4 more! Overall, the experience was fine, but for $80 for dinner, 2 beers, and 1 glass of wine, we expected a bit more.

Great selection of craft beers, good food selection, not just burgers, comfortable ambience, not too loud - 2 sports channels on the wall; not too crowded on a Friday evening, plus 90 minutes free parking across street and the usual Old Town local entertainment going on - what a bargain.

We found the place because of the good beer reviews. Went on a Sunday evening and all four of us got burgers. They were great! And a good beer list too. Attentive service. All good!

Our burgers (2) were both undercooked. The house ketchup was not very good and when we asked for regular they had none and offered garlic aoili which was good but not ketchup. The mac cheese was good as were the deviled eggs. Wouldn't go back

Food was great. Beer selection awesome. It helps to order all your items at once. We ordered our appetizers while we pondered our main courses. It was awhile after we finished our appetizers that the server returned to take the rest of our dinner order. One important recommendation. Haven has prospered in an Old Pasadena location that has had a revolving door of restaurants. That says a great deal.

The server was attentive and engaging. The beer list was fun and tasty. Mac-N-Chees delicious! Nice ambience and crowd. Would be a good place to watch a game. Need more non-meat items. The only option on the main meals was the Margherita pizza, even just substitute a veggie/soy patty on a burger, but something.

My boyfriend & I came here on a Saturday night, we couldn't get a reservation until 8:30pm through Open Table, when we arrived we still had to wait about 5-10 minutes for our table to be ready. It took a good amount of time for a waiter to show up to take our drink orders, the drinks were delivered by food runners rather than our waiter, what I thought was odd was I ordered a mixed drink and my bf ordered a beer, my drink was delivered first. Prior to our drinks even arriving our waiter came back to take our food order, this seemed a little rushed as we figured we would have time to enjoy our drinks while browsing the menu, it seems like they are trying to get people in & out as fast as possible so I definitely felt rushed the entire time

Surprisingly the food is very good here. Haven will have a drink that will pair with the food that they serve. It was very difficult to reserve for a large party. Took a few phone calls and email to get everything sorted out. You will actually need return the call since they would never call you back.

Havens was recommended to us by a buddy who used to go to UCLA. We were down for the Rose Bowl(wrong team won) and looking for a casual place for New Years Eve dinner. Wait staff was friendly and our waiter very knowledgable about the beers served which were excellent. The food though is the reason we would come back. They make their own chips, regular and salt and vinegar, both of which were superb. We had to make sure to stop eating them to make sure we had room for the deviled eggs, nice back end kick and paired well with the slice of house pickle..fried green tomatoes were excellent and you must have the pork belly. Great char on the outside tender on the inside and the 62 degree egg makes it. Polenta was light and flavorful.

We come here a couple times a year, and is one of our favorite dinner and drinks spot. They used to have a more eclectic menu with things like pig ears, but that seems to have been removed. Their menu hasn't changed much over the seasons. But at least you know what you get.

THe McCormick burger has gotten many reviews on Yelp, and with good reason! This is quite possibly the best burger I've ever had! If it had blue cheese crumbles or sauteed mushrooms on it though...well...I would have died and gone to Heaven. But this burger really is a winner. You won't be disappointed!

Best burger in years! Amazing lemony Brussels sprouts with prosciutto! Fabulous fries! And also on the menu are inventive rifs on other pub staples. Great beer selection, an acceptable wine list and full bar makes Haven a fun place to go with friends or after a movie. Wait staff was friendly and helpful. Prices are moderate, but bill does add up with all the little tempting extras to order.

Had six people at a four top to watch the Lakers game on a Friday night. Service was a little slow (getting waiter's attention, food coming out) but didn't mind much since we were watching the game anyway. Lamb burger was decent as usual. They forgot to check in my opentable reservations; I called them when I returned home that night and they said they would fix it. It was still a "no show through the weekend" and I submitted a form through opentable. The check in was resolved early Monday morning.

Went just for DineLA - though the server only gave us the standard menus and specials. We had to ask for DineLA,and he returned with it promptly. Delicious bacon shrimp and cheesy grits....delicious shepherds pie....delicious homemade doughnut holes with Nutella and and actual burnt sugar caramel dipping sauce - not the creamy bottled caramel - delish!! Radicchio and frisee salad with coddled egg and bacon lardons had a truffle vinegar dressing...fresh and tasty however a touch of sweetness would have better balanced all the bitter greens. Not a beer aficionado, but of the pages of beers offered, 6 are made in-house.

Our server did an excellent job. She was energetic, helpful, and always there when we needed something. The food was terrific! The mac & cheese, pretzel, deviled eggs and truffle fries were sooo good. We hardly needed to order the sandwiches. Everything had bold but not overwhelming taste. It was all about the taste; it was not just food to fill space in your stomach. However, there wasn't any problem filling your stomach; the portions were sizeable.

We have been to this restaurant many times and there has always been a problem. The food is good, but the service is awful. The food we order is rarely right, for example, no fries when ordered, a bun and all the trimmings brought when I ordered a plain no bun burger (which is dangerous when you have celiac). The manager has many excuses and nothing ever changes. Great food, but they need a new manager, since the problems never get better.
