Diner Reviews
  • "I often go to the theatre and I was so esatic to find a place within the area that served great food. It was extremely crowded and noisy however it was very organized. I was seated within 5 minutes of my reseveration. I had the special that day sea bass and the cabbage that accompanied it was wickedly good. Who knew cabbage could taste so good? My friend had the sampler and was trying to stick to her diet. Unfortunately that did work but I was able to taste some great Cuba food in the most touristy area NY. I love this place."

  • "After dining at the Havana Central at the Ridge Hill Mall in Yonkers, I was eager to return but I live in Manhattan. I was happy to find this Havana Central in Manhattan. Yes, it's in the heart of Times Square are, yes it's very noisy and crowded but the staff was friendly and responsive, if not attentive. And best of all, the food was just as good as the food at Ridge Hill."

  • "Flavors are great, definitely coming back. It's loud, so hard to have a conversation without yelling."

  • "I always enjoy stopping in to Havana Central when I am in the city. It is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. Great food great service, great people."

  • "I would not recommend the food. Everything tasted pre-prepared, and warmed up, not fresh. Understandably the Cuban slow roasted pork takes hours to make, but I was disappointed. The service is excellent. The Latin style band was very loud for the venue but enjoyable. I would not return. If you have the time go outside the Times Square area to find a restaurant, there are other choices. What could be a gem in the theatre district is not."

  • "The food was delicious, unfortunately, everything was served at once. We ordered appetizer, main dish and desert and everything was brought at once, making our table extremely crowded. The restaurant was also very congested. The noise level was loud, I guess because many were watching the World Cup on TV. Also, the restaurant did have a bit of a dingy look and feel to it."

  • "Right in heart of theater district. Fun, vibrant atmosphere. Great food and different from the bazillion Italian places. Great before-the-show place."

  • "Great Atmosphere! Good Food! It's like stepping out of New York and into a busy Cuban Restaurant/Club like you see in the movies. I always go there before catching a play. The SANGRIA made right at your table is excellent. The food is good and the staff has always been nice and attentive."

  • "This is one of the best Cuban restaurants in midtown. The food has great authentic cuban flavor and the cocktails are totally on point. I've been here several times and I would highly recommend the Seafood Paella and the Grilled Salmon with the Mango Slaw. The Mojito's are very tasty and the Caipirinha's are the truth! Our waiter Edwin was a perfect gentleman and his service was awesome. The scene is very lively which makes for a great spot for girls night out or for celebrating a special event such as birthdays or anniversary's. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for great food, drinks and atmosphere!"

  • "This time I was disappointed [this was the only time so far]. My son and I ordered the meat grill consisting of pork chop, steak, chicken, chorizo, fried yucca. Everything on the hot plate was burnt on the bottom."

  • "Havana Central (Times Square) never fails to please; the food is always great, service is courteous and friendly and there is always the right level of buzz to give it that New York feel."

  • "It's pretty hard to find a place that isn't a tourist trap in Times Square but Havana has always tried to step outside the line. Those of us who work in midtown and have to find places to eat out appreciate the effort!"

  • "Wonderful -- thank you!! Delicious food. Literally everything on the menu was appealing. Lobster stuffed avocado appetizers were outstanding."

  • "The Monfongo with Pernil is excellent. Accompanied with their fully white rice and red beans, all I have to say is was "Delicioso!""

  • "Drinks OK but expensive . Black beans and rice dry and tasteless . Noise (at 7:0o P M on a Monday night) made it impossible to talk. Many other good places to go"

  • "The place needs some major renovations. Totally felt like I was in the "hood". I decided to have lunch at Havana Central w/some collegues from out of town, as it was centrally located. Major mistake - the food tasted like it had been sitting around for hours before they served it to us. There are not many options on the menu, and the options available are not appetizing. Next time my collegues are requesting Cuban food, we'll head over to Victor's Cafe or Son Cubano!"

  • "I ordered the Ropa Vieja mofongo and it was delicious!"

  • "I've been to this Havana Central, many, many times and at different times of different days of the week. This was my first time there on Sunday. It was considerably crowded for 5 PM. Our waiter was a little short and we ordered the sangria at the table, which is always delicious and comes with a nice presentation, but he threw it together, dripping it all over the floor, stirring it with a stirrer he took out of one of the glasses, instead of the normal big spoon. The food was good, as always, but I was disappointed since I brought a friend who had never been there and I had raved about the place. It also felt like our food was rushed out to us and they were constantly hovering to remove plates and clear the table. Overbooking reservations?"

  • "We had 12noon reservations pre theater matinee. Restaurant is across from our hotel-The Muse-so convenient! Food was great! Empanadas were all excellent as were the Cuban sandwich and the grilled shrimp salad! Dressing was tangy and light. Tres Leches was the perfect ending! Liked the vibe and atmosphere and wait staff was very attentive. We will most definitely come back again."

  • "Service was decent..noise level was very obtrusive..worst though was the food. Pernil (Roast Pork), was very dry and stringy..Lobster Salad tasted like it came out of a can..Paella was unseasoned. All in all, a disppointing experience."

  • "My family and I enjoyed our dinner and had a wonderful waiter. My husband and I had been to Havana previously but our kids had not. They loved the food and the waiter was very friendly to them. Definitely will visit again!"

  • "Service was good, waiter was attentive, nice food presentation, Paella tasted good with lots of seafood, extra $10.00 for a small lobster tail. Sangria needs work. Loved the great live music. Churros a must."

  • "My husband and I were looking for a place with good and interesting food before the theatre...this fit the bill...big portions, well prepared food, good and helpful wait staff....noisy but we were able to talk without shouting"

  • "Everything is good except the noise level is deafening which detracts from the ambience."

  • "The food is great, staff attentive and pleasant. We had an amazing Father's Day for my husband. He loved his tower of Cuban meats. Ropa vieja and pernil outstanding"

  • "I typically expect the food in Times Square to be adequate and overpriced. I happen to love a good mojito and a great cuban sandwich and Havana Central had both. The kitchen is scratch and food can be made to order and the drinks were made with fresh ingredients and real fruit for the margaritias, daquiris and specialty drinks. Our server was also wonderful. The prices were incredibly reasonable and the dessert sampler delish. Even my teenage daughters enjoyed every bite. I will return and bring colleagues with me."

  • "Latin cuisine is very tasty but for some reason, the salad is packaged and tastes like preservatives. It would not be too much to put some fresh greens on a plate. It took a lot away from what was otherwise a very nice meal."

  • "Transform your dull 9-5 life by visiting Havana Central for authentic mojitos and delicious Latin cuisine. Great Tropical vibe!"

  • "I'm sure this would have been a better dining experience if we were seated in a different area and I ordered something different. We were seated in the back in a stuffy unvenilated area. Seating upfront or next to the bar was cooler and more energetic. My wife got the ribs--she said they were excellent. Balancing that out however is I got the crispy shredded beef and it was not good at all--not bad enough to send back but close. Dry, chewy, heavy. Service was energetic and good for a very busy place that was tuning over a lot of tables. Very touristy."

  • "The food was awesome and so were the mojitos! Very reasonably priced as well. Only critique I have is that its too crammed! Everyone is on top of each other and there is no privacy."

  • "I planned to have a nice dinner somewhere with live Cuban music for my boyfriends birthday. I made the reservations online and specifically asked to please have a desert brought to our table at the end of our meal with a candle. When we arrived at the restaurant I reminded the waiter twice that it was my bfs birthday. Even though I made reservations we still had to wait 30 mins to be seated. The atmosphere felt cheap, the live band was literally playing right by the door and they have a bar playing games on tv -_-. Just horrible, to make matters worse the brought the desert with no candle while I was in the restroom and then cake half way done the waitress brings a candle and lights it! I will never go back! Shouldve gone to GUANTANAMERA!"

  • "This restaurant was very energetic. The hostess was very friendly and the wait staff was excellent, frequently checking on us, making sure our drinks were kept full. The food was fantastic. I ordered the traditional Paella and the waiter said that it serves 2. When we got it, the amount of food was more than enough for 2 and may actually feed 4. The drinks were awesome, especially the Rose Sangria and the Passion Fruit Mojito - very refreshing, filled with fresh fruit. The variety of Empanadas were yummy. The ambiance and decor are reminiscent of the roaring 20's with tropical flavors - large decorative palm trees. It was hard to hear my colleagues when the band was playing and reservations will save you the wait during peak times."

  • "The restaurant is in the heart of the theatre district (which is why we were there, just before a show) so it was very loud and very touristy. Don't expect a quiet table or lack of traffic. That being said, the sangria we ordered, a pitcher of white, was made at the table and was very good. We also both had the paella in a pot, and it was also extremely delicious. There is plenty of traffic, so the staff really keeps things moving, but this means fast and good service. I might find a place a bit more quiet next time, but this is a good option before a show."

  • "Havana Central serves the best Churassco Skirt steak. Their Cilantro & spinach rice is mouth watering. I recommend my family and friends to this restaurant. I feel very satisfied to eat there and their ambiance is energetic, exciting and vibrant."
