Diner Reviews
  • "We went for Empanada Day special. There was definitely a lively bar scene with lively drinks to match. Music was authentic, but a little loud if you were seated in booth under speaker. They did a fine job!"

  • "My boyfriend and I dined here last weekend and it was so much fun. The waiter was attentive and professional, but my significant other thought he was trying too hard for his tip. The sangria was great and I cannot wait to return."

  • "Went there with my son & daughter to try NYC's take on Cuban cuisine. Maybe we're over critical (having lived in Miami for 11 years) but we were disappointed in the food. The Empanadas were really good and my daughter couldn't get enough of the avocado dip that came with the plantain chips. But it went downhill from there. My roast pork was tender but tasteless. My son's Cuban sandwich was mediocre. My daughter's Mofongo was cold and tasteless also. The waitress was very apologetic about the slow service (It took an hour to get our food, from the time we ordered). The noise level was really loud but the decor was very nice. It would appear that one should stick with the appetizers, as those were the only highlights of our meal."

  • "The atmosphere at this restaurant is wonderful, the live music transports one to the islands and the food is fresh and delicious. I had rotisserie chicken with a mango glaze and it was quite flavorful."

  • "We've been to Havana Central before and rated it 5 stars then. The good: very good Mojitos; my wife's salmon was perfection. I had vaca frita (fried shredded beef). I've had this before and it was 100% better last time. Tender with a touch of crispiness. Well this time they must have fried it a bit longer than they should have since it toughened up the meat substantially. Good taste but it gave my mouth a workout."

  • "The ambiance in HC is lively, friendly, energetic. The employees are the same. The place is very clean. HOWEVER, the food is just a bit short of expectations. Although the food was well presented, and pretty much nicely prepared it was rather bland and so did not do this style of cuisine justice. The Batida cocktail was delicious, but nearly bereft of alcohol. I think that only a few tweeks in the kitchen and at the bar can make this into a first class restaurant."

  • "Very noisy. Wait staff was very very good..........but we waited over an hour to get our food. We asked for bread twice and only got some on the third request."

  • "Restaurant atmosphere was nice and given the long wait for our food... It was great for conversation. But if your really hungry this may not be the best option it took 40+ mins for appetizer and we waited for over an hour for our entree as a party of 2! The table next to us also had a similar complaint!"

  • "Everyone was pleasant enough but it was very hectic and took forever to get our food for brunch. The brunch drink special of mimosa was basically orange juice. Then I ordered a glass of "champagne" which tasted like rubbing alcohol. Even the cheapest sparkling wine never tasted like that. I had taken my cast out for a treat and I was disappointed and wished I had gone to my favorite Cuban restaurant. The food was enjoyed by all, however."

  • "I attended the restaurant upon a reservation and was a little late due to the snowy conditions that had just occurred. I ordered my food and a Sangria to drink. I noticed a black speck in my drink but figured it was from the fruit within my drink. It was something from the fruit alright which I noticed as I came close to finishing the Sangria. That black speck was a fruit fly that had been floating in my drink the whole time. I showed it to our waiter and all he had to say was I wish you would have told me before you finished the drink. Mind you I was not yet done with the drink but he did take it away. I asked for the check thinking that I would not be charged for the drink but that was not the case."

  • "Service was good but the website says that for $15 its all you can drink for 2 hours. When we got there, we found out it was not true and the reason why we went there was for the drinks. But again the food and service was good but if you are going there for the all you can drink, go somewhere else!"

  • "The food starting with the appetizers were great. The staff were very friendly, the music superb. I really love everything about Havana Central upper west side. Great Job for our waiter whom we were calling left to right, he was awsome and he did a wonderful job. Thumbs up."

  • "Delicious Cuban cuisine and good service. Live performance of Cuban music was great, but was too loud that we had to shout to talk."
    Dined on 1/19/2014
  • "We loved the food but a later start put us there when the DJ began playing. Music was great and if we were in the mood to dance it would have been perfect. But to eat and talk it was louder than we would have wanted. It still won't keep us from going back. Just need to go earlier if we will want a little quieter"

  • "We went here before seeing my daughter perform at Barnard College on a busy Saturday evening. We ranged in age from18-83 and all were pleased with their meals. The server was terrific. Nice, attentive, and best of all, we had time before the show and I expressed to him "we will clear out so you can have your table". He replied "This is YOUR table, stay as long as you like." Wow. How lovely! We will definitely return."

  • "The appetizers were good, but the main courses were not. My steak (pallomilla) was dry, the yuca was over cooked, and the black beans just so-so. Being Cuban myself, I know good Cuban food. The pitcher of Mojitos was good, though a bit pricey ($45) though probably normal for NYC. The server was very nice and accommodating, as were the rest of the staff. The dessert (flan) was also underwhelming. Nice place, but not the best Cuban food."

  • "I really enjoyed my experience at Havana Central. Myself and family took my sister out here for a 25th birthday dinner. When the food arrived it was hot, plentiful with hearty portions, and delicious. Everyone in my group seemed to be very satisfied with their choice. Also, might I add the live music that they provide every Fri and Sat night was awesome. It was classic salsa music and it made for good listening music and tied together the Latin vibe especially as we waited for the food. Overall, it was a great spot to get good Cuban food in a classy 1950's style restaurant. The prices were reasonable and the portions and service were very generous. Would definitely go back again."
