A word from Hatfields
Quinn Hatfield's deft touch in the kitchen shines through on his short but dead-on, market-fresh menu. Appetizers are playful: Fabulously fleshy charred octopus is offset by a citrus-candied orange rind, and an updated croque madame features fresh hamachi, along with proscuitto, quail egg and out-of-this-world brioche. Main courses are uniformly excellent, be it juicy pan-roasted seabass, meaty duck breast that eats like a steak, and luscious, mint-crusted rack of lamb. For desserts, Karen Hatfield outdoes herself with the molten-centered house specialty chocolate peanut butter truffle cake, which is worth every decadent calorie its name promises. Continued

  • "Found the restaurant cold and service spotty. We were a party of 6 and the consensus of opinion was, limited menu but well prepared but nothing exciting. The entire restaurant, including staff seemed to be boring and bored. On a Tuesday evening, drinks took a half hour to get to our table, and this was early on when the restaurant was basically empty."

  • "Absolutely the best dining experience I've had in Los Angeles. I made the reservations on open table and noted that it was our one year wedding anniversary. We ordered the croque madame as an appetizer, bass and lamb for dinner, and hot chocolate peanut butter truffle cake with vanilla ice cream. Thank you Hatfield's for a wonderful dining experience - we will be back!"

  • "I brought my wife here for here birthday and we loved the food. The Croque Madame was so good and is one thing you should not miss when at Hatfield's. We also had the Suasage and Beet Green Mezzelune, Ricotta Agnolotti, Chicken entree, and the Prime Dry Aged NY Steak. All were wonderful and I recommend them all. Our dinner was finished off with the Hot Chocolate Peanut-Butter Truffle Cake. We will hopefully be back soon to try more of their tasty faire."

  • "It was our 11th anniversary and like every wedding anniversary it was special (guys, you can't skip an anniversary celebration just because it doesn't end in "0's" or "5's"! Another couple who has been close to us, was experiencing the same thing, "all work, no play (dining)" and our anniversary provided an excuse to do it right. Overall the food was very good and for us, that is the priority. My wife and I had the tasting menu while the other couple choose dining a la carte due to some diet restrictions. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. We had even ordered a bar appetizer of pork belly kebabs that I believe was the food hit of the night. We'll definitely be back to do the extended tasting menu with wine selection!"

  • "We made reservations for this place because of the Michelin Star rating and they did not disappoint! We decided to go with the prix fixe menu and got one of everything and made a substitution from the vegetarian menu for one of the items. When we got the wine list and started to taste the wine available, we weren't the biggest fans as these wines are short and to the point, but when we got our food, the wine list totally made sense. The food was luxurious, rich and filled with complex flavors and needed a less complex wine to round out the flavors of the food. I love that the food was the star here. Everything was perfectly cooked- the short rib was tender, the fish just flakey- not over done. Overall, this was an awesome experience!"

What you don't find is a level of service that actually matches the 5-star food rating. Hatfields is that exception. The service is flawless, effortless and the friendliest staff I think I have ever encountered, greatly adding to the overall experience."

  • "We decided to try Hatfield´s for a special birthday dinner. I wish we had not. The service was unwelcoming. The big disappointment was the inconsistency in the food. I ordered the "Croque Madame with yellowtail sashimi, prosciutto, quail egg, brioche" which was smothered with sauce, killing any flavor between the thick slices of brioche. The "Roasted carrot and sweet potato soup, crispy pork belly, sweetbread, maitake mushrooms" was good but forgettable. The lamb in the "Date and mint crusted lamb, roasted heirloom root vegetables, fresh chickpeas, potato chive puree" was very good. But the presumably organic, local carrots were overcooked, mushy, tasteless. No chickpeas, and the potato chive puree was green but had no chive taste."

  • "I've been there a total of 4 or 5 times. This was the first time this year and what a disappointment. Dined early so we were almost dining alone and yet the waiter was terrible. Never even asked how anything was and when I asked for the check and he saw how little we had eaten, he didn't ask "Was anything wrong?" or anything. The lamb was very fatty. I asked for a sharp knife because even though the lamp was tender, it was very hard to cut with a regular knife. The waiter said that was the only knife they had..... The flavor was not the spectacular flavor it had always been before. The lamb is their signature dish and is why I've dined there before. Bad, bad experience. Total lack of interest from the waiter...I will not go again."

  • "Hatfield's has been around for a while, but it is still a very good restaurant and one of the few LA restaurants still offering a tasting menu (5 savory courses and 2 dessert courses). I like ordering a la carte because their Croque Madame is a must order. Their seasonal 4-course menu is fun too where you pick 3 savory courses from 9 options that often include a scallops course, a duck course, a beef course, several vegetables dishes, and at least one pasta. You also get to pick a dessert from Karen Hatfield's great selection of complex and delicious desserts. Hatfield's also features an attractive glass-enclosed kitchen."

  • "Truly outstanding: each course was bursting with flavor, and interesting contrasts of textures. My cod "en croute" appetizer had a thin, wafer-like layer on top that added a nice crunch to the silky fish. The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned, with a wonderful parsnip puree underneath. My main course, branzino, had a crunchy topping of capers, almonds and dried apricots that highlighted but did not overpower the delicious fish. It was accompanied by caramelized red onions and haricots verts. The cheese-infused bread was amazing. I liked that we could mix and match dishes from the entire menu, including the seasonal and vegetarian prix-fixe. Portions were satisfying but not excessive. One of the best meals we have had anywhere!"

  • "Celebrated the February b-days with my husband's brothers and wives and chose this place for the excellent prix fixe and vegetarian options. I would say that the drop dead yummy dishes were: the croque madam, diver scallops and the creme fraiche cheesecake. The en croute cod is excellent--almost red meat like experience but I thought that the dish was a bit oversauced. What impressed me was that the servers could actually discuss the dish they were placing in front of you. One small flaw: mixed up dishes for the people at the table twice. We were placed in the heated covered outdoor area--good for our party of 6 and conversation. If romance is what you want, go for indoor. Has a viewing kitchen window if you want to watch."

  • "Of all of the LA restaurants I have to rank Hatfields at the top. There are so many pluses that I have to state simply. The food is wonderful, whether the Ala Carte or Tasting Menu, the waitstaff are professional, the wine list is good for everyone, and best of all is the fact that you can dine and easily carry on a conversation with the other guests. It is a very comfortable evening, but the food is wonderful; never have I tasted lamb as amazing as the other evening, the chicken so juicy and tasty, and the fish and beef were just perfectly prepared. Their version of the Croque Madame starts the meal off on a high note, and it just keeps getting better. Overall, I rank it #1 in LA because it's a wonderful experience."

  • "We enjoyed the exquisite food at Hatfields. We had one fix price menu which allowed for a choice of three savoury dishes and dessert. Each of the small dishes was delectable. We had the three seafood options which paired different flavours beautifully. The cuttlefish was outstanding. The creme fraise cheesecake came with baked pear, a sorbet and thin wafers and was perfectly executed. The lighting was way too dim for us. It was so subdued we felt like whispering!"

  • "The restaurant's 5 bottle corkage limit is ridiculous, especially for a 6-person, special occasion wine dinner. The sommelier refused to make an exception for our birthday celebration. The $30 per bottle corkage fee is also incredibly high. At that rate, why do they care how many bottles are opened? We left to have dessert elsewhere - where we could open our dessert wine - but when we returned, the valet had left and locked a friend's keys in his stand. He didn't even leave them in the restaurant. My friend had to Uber home then back the next day. We will not be returning."

  • "Unlike everybody else, we did not enjoy the food. The food did not blow us away. Our waiter was 'nice' but he seems the kind that determines before he spoke with you if you don't appear to be the Hollywood foodie type, you get the slight attitude from him. We liked the drinks and the popcorn served at the bar when we waited for our table but that was it. We kept trying to taste the flavor in the food that everybody was talking about, we just could not. For the amount of money we paid, this place did not shine for us."

I ran into the worst trafic LA type and the still made me think they would give away my table for Valentines day if I did not arrive within 10 minutes of my reservation."

We enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience, and agree that Hatfield's may be our favorite Los Angeles restaurant (or certainly in the top 3). The restaurant is well decorated, tables spaced apart (so it does not feel crowded), and you have a very cool view of an open kitchen. Service was excellent. Helpful, attentive, funny, and willing to offer great suggestions. Every single dish we tried was out of this world. Simply delicious. We loved the: Croque Madame, Beet Salad, Cod, Date and Mint Crusted Lamb as well as the decadent Sugar and Spice Beignets. Sensational food! We will be back to try their prix fixe menu! 5-stars; perhaps best in LA!"

  • "I was very disappointed in the service at Hatfields. The two of us arrived on time for our reservation, and our orders were taken. We then waited, and waited, and waited. An hour and fifteen minutes later our food finally arrived. 50 minutes in we decided to ask our waiter to check on our food, and it took us five minutes to even get his attention. Without even waiting for me to speak, he interjected that there had been "a holdup in the kitchen" and that our food would be out shortly. No apology, no explanation. He poured us each an extra quarter of a glass of wine to tide us over for the next 20 minutes. In the course of the time we were waiting we watched the tables around us being served two courses, get their check, and depart."
