It's such a beautiful space, it's even adjacent to a movie theater! This chicly urban decorated space is just steps away from the train, and competing with such powerhouses as Amy Ruth's, just 1 block away, and Red Rooster, just 9 blocks away. Located on the ground floor of the Kalahari, this restaurant is perfectly situated to be new Harlem gem. However, simply put: the food is terrible. My party and I ordered a selection of small plates, and each plate had some critical elements wrong. Over seasoned and rubber-band like calamari, and lumpy undercooked grits were just two examples. This place has a lot of potential, but they have to improve the food.

The place could have the makings of a great spot, but it is all so under par on so many levels.

I wanted to love Harvist. Unfortunately, it's poorly executed. The food is fine. The service was good. However, the room has an institutional feel. There are no rugs or tablecloths, and the acoustic tile ceilings are high. It is not a welcoming space. Also, they're rigid. It's always nearly empty, yet recently when the bar was full, they gave us a hard time about sitting in the restaurant "just for drinks." (They eventually let us.) In an empty restaurant, no simple substitutions on sides (ie. change yucca to fries). Last, it's too expensive a meal to be looking at the neighboring movie concession stand while you eat. It makes you feel like you're in a mall after hours. All easy to fix, and I hope they do. I want Harvist to succeed.

Fresh ingredients where simplicity reigns. A new theater complex shares the lobby, so probably a great place for dinner and a show or movie. Check out the theater complex, called MIST. We went there for brunch during the soft opening, and the service was excellent. The food was simple fare, but well done. The Marinated Skirt Steak was wonderfully seasoned, and the best of what we ordered. Definitely save room for dessert. We tried the Farina Cake with Roasted Strawberries and Anise Whipped Cream. It was fantastic!

We had a wonderful meal with our family. Still in the soft opening phase but the food is spectacular and the service superb. The room is large and elegant. A wonderful addition to the growing number of destination restaurants in the neighborhood.

The first word that comes to mind is QUALITY Harvist is a great restaurant that is filled with creativity. From the artwork on the walls to the unique menu items, the experience is fulfilling in every way. The mussels are addicting, prawns and grits feels downhome and the cornish hen is prepared to perfection. The deserts are woth saving room for and the overall environment is designed to ake a customer feel comfortable. This restaurant is highly recommended.

Lots of potential but a way to go to get there with regards to food, service and ambiance. The staff definitely needs more training. Am looking forward to coming back in a month to see how it has hopefully improved.

Was a little surprised by the lack of atmosphere here, also it didn't feel like a "place to be" just a restaurant to eat and go somewhere else. Nice decor, food was okay, service was slow.

Overall this place was a big disappointment. The entrance is unmarked and awkward as you basically have to walk through a movie/performance space (while being asked by staff members why are you there?) to find the restaurant. The servers were quite pleasant, but not very knowledgeable about the food and poorly trained to serve it. The offerings were limited, but might have been adequate, had they all been good. However we were a party of 7 and all had appetizers and entrees- and out of 14 dishes served, none were excellent, two were "good", seven were "ok to mediocre" and three others were down right g-d awful... To make matters worse- the food pricing is high and that is nothing compared to the liquor- glass of wine $12? Real

The food was good but the service was disjointed and very disappointing. Even though this is a new restaurant, the service overshadowed the great quality food. We waited 15 mins for water, 20 mins for someone to acknowledge and take our order. Then plates and cultery were taken away without being replaced. I hope they can fix the service as the food deserves it.

  • HARVIST IS FINE DINING IN HARLEM
    OpenTable Diner Since 2013
    Dined on 3/9/2013
Opened just a few weeks, the new Harvist at MistHarlem is well on its way to presenting the best dining experience in Harlem. Executive Chef Cassandra Quinlan-Ashford offers a Seasonal American menu that will please the most discerning palate. The small plate of buttermilk fried calamari was delightful. My pan roasted striped bass with lentils in a citrus vinaigrette is unforgettable, and the generous serving of warm apple and sweet potato cobbler for dessert was heaven-sent. The restaurant sits off from the Mist Theater lobby where everyone is ready to make your experience there a memorable experience.

I went to Harvist Harlem for the first time, and I was pleasantly surprise. The ambiance is open and warm. There have a nice mixed crowd. You can go and have finger food and watch a game, or get a nice table with a friend and talk. The restaurant itself is very attractive and it a nice size. The food was very good as well. I had the catfish and my friend had the steak The server was also knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. I don't live in the neighborhood but I will definitely be back.

This was my first time at this restaurant and a group of us celebrated another friend's birthday. The food was great, the atmosphere was laid back and the space was really warm and inviting. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. I would definately visit this restaurant again and I want to check out the event venue that is a part of the space.

What a wonderful first experience: great food presentation, succulant food, professional and engaging service and the chef greeted us. They get it! I didn't check off Great For Outdoor Dining or Notable Wine List because I didn't get to see the outdoor dining and I don't drink.

  • Harvist & the M.I.S.T. Complex: A+
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

Harvist is part of the M.I.S.T. complex, which includes live theater, movie screens and performance space. The staff is attentive and friendly. They want to serve. The food is very good. Chef Cassandra has got skills. From the biscuits to the appetizer, all the way to the dessert, there is something good being brought to your table. The pork Osso Buco and the prawns and grits are two entreés I have eaten. Superb! Starters are well done, from field greens to chicken wings. Desserts are a great ending to a wonderful meal. I visited them on opening night with a friend. It was a great meal. I recently hosted a table of eleven and it was a big hit! Harvist is a great addition to the Harlem scene. Looking forward to many visits in the future.

  • Busboy kept saying excuse

Busboy kept saying excuse me to refill our water glasses, interrupting our conversation. He doesn't need to say excuse me. He can just refill the glasses. The other staffers were way too eager to clear our plates. We had three people right in a row ask if they could take them. The dinner entrees were not appealing. Would be great if you had like a great burger for people who just want something reliably good and filling. Place looks nicer from the outside than inside. Interior needs work...more warmth...feels like a lobby with tables set up.
