The setting and the view are superb, it was peaceful and pleasant, and the food was good as always. We enjoyed tuna sashimi appetizer, Margharita pizza, entrees of the night's special mahi mahi, pasta pepe with mushrooms and pecorino cheese, eggplant parmesagne with broccoli rabe. Management thoughtfully provided tasty cookies with a candle to celebrate my husband's birthday. Coffee was hot, although not especially strong. Too bad.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Way To Spend An AfternoonEnjoyed a wonderful lunch with friends overlooking the Hudson River on a hot sunny day. The service was great and very attentive. I had the mussels and clams appetizer. It was delicious! My friend and I both had the lettuce wedge with blue cheese dressing. It too, was great. The dressing tasted freshly made. There were cucumbers slices hidden under the lettuce wedge which was a nice surprise. Although it was extremely hot outside, there was a nice breeze on the patio. The setting is spectacular and it's fun to wander through their herb & vegetable garden and see the varieties of plantings. The radishes that were brought to our table (along with delicious warm bread) were from their garden. The menu is excellent, the dining room (there's patio seating as well) is lovely and our server was terrific. We had a 7:30 reservation but when we arrived there was a 40 minute wait to be seated on the patio (or be seated without delay in the dining room). Not surprising - it was a beautiful May evening! We agreed to wait for the patio and enjoyed drinks at the bar. While at the bar I had a Blackberry Fields which was AWESOME. Anyhow, we were seated at the patio and enjoyed the rest of our meal - I had oysters, entirely too much cheese and meat, zupa de pesce which regrettably I could barely fit. BF had eggplant parm w/broccoli rabe - also very good. Last course was nutella gelato & expresso. Some of the food was great (octopus app) and some was mediocre (ricotta meatballs). The service was wonderful and most of the portions were a good size. The only really odd thing is that after such a yummy meal we decided to bring a group of 12 for lunch and they're making it about as difficult as possible. They won't take a reservation for outside, they won't offer the prix fixe menu and after suggesting for 12 we want to speak with the events coordinator, we learned that she doesn't return phone calls; we have to call and call until we actually get her on the phone. The food is very good and the help is attentive. The only area that can use a bit of help is the front desk. There were 3 or 4 ladies behind the desk but not one of them offers a warm welcome when you arrive or makes you feel special. I have noticed this in my past visits as well. The greting is your first experience as you enter a restaurant and is how you start your visit. The pizza's are great and fun to share. Patio table-view of the hudson Restaurant had a large group when we arrived, front reception was a little stressed. However ,backup crush was handled quickly and professionally. Asked for outdoor seating & were accomodated to switch to a table with an umbrella (why aren't all outdoor tables equiped with umbrellas?). Drink service-slow, but weather and table view made this acceptable. Both ordered fish: Braised tile fish was good, not great, could have been more flavorful; Grilled whole dorado was very good, served with roasted dates, walnuts, tomatoes, cooked to perfection - you do have to be willing to de-bone, paired with a suggested while wine-vg. The situation, which included the problem that my chicken was already on the table, was quickly rectified bt the Maitre D without us calling for him! In no time my wife had a delicious vegetarian dish and my dinner was kept warm with a cover for my plate. What could have been a situation that ruined the evening was, instead, quite pleasant. The original waitress was substituted for another (even though we did not complain) and all the care that we received was noted and appreciated. GREAT STAFF!! Food was excellent!

Salad with arugula, radiccio, and pomegranite seeds was very good. The pizza appetizer was delicious and hot. The Roman pasta was excellent , al dente and seasoned reminiscent of our trip to Rome. The fish special, halibut, was a very small portion, but fresh and mildly seasoned. Coffee was hot but not as strong as we like. Quite a large restaurant. We had a beautiful view of the sunset over the cliff on the other side of the river with a band playing to boot. Many options for dining, from tapas-like style to seafood towers to pizza and more. The staff seem to help each other out so you have more than one person waiting on you, a little confusing. Only complaints were that there was the tiniest smidge of peanut brittle with the panna cotta - not enough, not for sharing - and the fluke does not make a good whole fish, while tasty, the bones stay in the way, unlike say a red snapper usually used by the Montauk Harvest. They were still running the restaurant week special, which was a pleasant surprise with a 3 course meal for $30. The Salmon Tar Tar was fantastic, as was my wife's skirt steak with bone marrow butter. My wife is gluten free and they were careful to accommodate that need and quickly corrected a mistake from her main dish of having a side with gluten. The service was superb. We ordered hors d'oerves to share, and the owner sent out a few extras. Each was more interesting and better than the last -- and plentiful. I would urge any diner to order liberally from the starter menu, as you can't go wrong. I shared a pasta dish and the swordfish, both specials, with my husband. Both were excellent. Everyone in our party was very happy -- and full. The young wait staff members could not be more attentive, and everything was truly lovely. Generally, the food was great, though my entree was disappointing. It was a special: lamb with a panko coating. The panko coating seemed bland and greasy and somehow masked the flavor of the lamb, which I could tell was very good lamb. The potatoes and veggies were all great, but the lamb itself was disappointing. I hate to sound harsh, but it tasted no better than chicken-fried steak at roadside diner. My appetizer and dessert were both fantastic, and the other dishes at the table were all excellent, so I interpreted the lamb as an experiment that didn't work out well. This could truely be a great restuarant, if only it would lighten up a bit on pricing everything on the high side. The entree's were very good but did not come with a salad or side dish & the side dishes, that were not listed on menu, were too pricey. A small side of pasta was $10, which I declined. The entree was delicious but the spatzle that came with it was so small it was hidden under the fish. A tablespoon of spatzle just doesn't do it for me. The grilled octopus appetizer is a must try and I had the skirt steak with bone marrow butter. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The vanilla pana cotta was the perfect dessert to end a meal. Service is excellent. I really liked the fact that if someone left the table, the waiter would come by and fold that person's napkin and place it on the table. The last time I went, there was a group of 3 musicians who played light spanish music during dinner which really added to the ambiance. As for the view, you can't beat it. Harvest on Hudson impessed me so much that I have even booked my wedding here! The restaurant week offerings were excellent. The caramelized Brussels sprout risotto and the lamb spring rolls were to die for. The poached halibut was thoughtfully presented with a soup spoon to ensure the broth was part of each bite. The skirt steak was cooked to the exact degree of doneness requested and very flavorful. While still a little chilly to dine outside, we were seated right next to an open door overlooking the Hudson River and a gorgeous sunset.
