Diner Reviews
  • "It was our first day in Sonoma and we had read a lot of great reviews on Harvest Moon and I have to tell you, we were not disappointed at all. The food was super, the service was spot on. The place is very small, warm, and just a nice place to tuck in for a meal. Almost stopped by a 2nd evening but we had so few evenings, felt like we had to try something different just to get a variety. But it was definitely worth a revisit. The only thing that was a distraction was that a group of 4 at another table had a couple of very loud (had a little too much??) and this took away a little from the experience. But, there really was nothing they restaurant could do about that :-)"

  • "..i love this place- romantic setting - love the bar- exotic Euro-California cuisine. The wine list is eccletic, ranging from French to California- and they are quite accomodating to vegetarians !! and price range is amazing.."

  • "Harvest Moon is no Cafe LaHaye. The food, menu selections, ambiance, and service are all well below that Sonoma spot. The food here is good (not great), albeit the selections are very limited. The setting is intimate indoors and in a plastic bubble outdoors. The bar area looked like an interesting place to eat. Service was painfully slow. Server said she didn't want to interrupt us to offer water or a pre dinner drink. How strange! Apparently she didn't want to interrupt us for taking our dinner or dessert orders either. 3 hours for a party of four. I would pass on Harvest Moon. EDK, Cafe LaHaye, Carneros, and even Hot Box are all better bets from my perspective."

  • "Visiting my son and daughter in law and granddaughter Ava in Sonoma. They recommended this place. Excellent meal, for the Sonoma square, where prices can be kind of ridiculous, this place has very reasonable prices, nice wine list. We will definitely go back on our next visit."

  • "Just seems to scream "wine country". Love the changing menu with local ingredients. Am very happy with the expansion on the back patio (covered for the winter months), but I love eating inside - so warm and cozy. One of my go to places in Sonoma."

  • "One of the best restaurants in wine country. Always pleasantly surprised @ the new dishes they come up with. Love."

  • "One of my favorites in Sonoma! Service was not as amazing as it usually is, but that's not to say it was bad. Food also wasn't quite as on point, but again, it was still delicious. Fennel salad was just ok and the rock shrimp entree was a little flat but desserts were so good!! Still my go to restaurant in town!"

  • "We were seated outside on a plastic-lined patio with heaters. It was not the best ambiance, but we could have looked past that if everything else had been fantastic, but it wasn't. The service was inconsistent, the food had highs and lows. If this had been my first time at the restaurant, I probably wouldn't have gone back."

  • "Celebrating all three of our birthdays, so decided to splurge a bit and Harvest Moon never disappoints on the food level.I've been there several times, taking out of town friends usually, as I know the food will be consistently excellent. The continuing disappointment is the service; lack of sincerity in customer service (just-doing-a-job kind of attitude) and a mix up (this visit) in the steak orders had us switching plates after a bite or two when we discovered the mix up (I got the rare steak, but ordered it medium). The kitchen did it right, but the server plopped down the plates in the wrong position.I will continue to have this on the top of my Sonoma restaurant list and highly recommend the food, but be forewarned about the service!"

  • "This little "hole in the wall" cafe right on the square in Sonoma has lovely decor and attentive service. The food was very good, but pricey--$70 for 2 without wine or dessert! For us, it's a special occasion place."

  • "Great way to end a day of tastings. Fabulous flood, great service and interesting variety. Service was personable, competent, yet not presumptuous. Portions were very generous and I hated to leave a bite, but had to!"

  • "It was a fabulous night we had great homemade bread & fresh butter. Beautiful salad and homemade pasta and a stellar dessert. Everything was organic and freshly made."

  • "Dependable quality, well served, prepared. Very limited wine list. Cozy setting, local ingredients and salads (asparagus/blood orange/goat cheese) and local mixed greens bursting with flavor. Bucatoni delicately prepared, multiple herbs and not heavy. Pork chop more than my companion could eat. Many visits, always a favorite."

  • "Lovely outdoor patio seating with heaters. Our server was wonderful and suggested the perfect wine. Food is deeeeelicious! Bar is small so if you arrive early for your reservation you might have to wait in another nearby bar."

  • "We make frequent trips to Wine County and it is well known that Napa is a food destination. Sonoma not so much. However, our first experience at Harvest Moon was excellent. The menu was not overwhelming. The food was excellent. The service was what one would expect in a very good restaurant. We look forward to returning."

  • "We had a lovely dinner at Harvest Moon Cafe on Saturday night during a busy 3-day weekend. The cafe was lively with other tourists and locals when we arrived at 8:30pm and we were seated immediately. We started with a very delicious buckwheat polenta torta with spinach, ricotta, and roasted tomato sauce. My steelhead salmon was lovely. My husband's casoulet was flavorful. Service was very good but inconsistent. One nearby table was served their entrees while still eating their salad and another table had completed appetizer plates on their table for over 10 minutes before they were taken away. Noise level can get quite high."

  • "I was with 6 women celebrating a birthday. Between the six of us, we ordered pretty much all of the entrees offered, and all of us were very happy with our dishes. The service was friendly, but efficient. Great restaurant on the square!"

  • "We started with the Carrot/Ginger soup and the Marinated beets with Umbrian green lentils. Then we both had the Liberty Farm Duck breast with herbed Farro, apricot chutney and red cabbage. We had only tap water and no desserts, as we had overindulged the last 2 days/nights prior, wink :-) The food was very good; the duck very tender. The service was great. Total bill (without tip) came to $77 - which included tax. Although very good, we don't think we'll be back anytime soon. There are just far too many other restaurants in Napa (being so close to us) and Sonoma that are equal (and/or better) and less expensive = which is a good problem to have!"

  • "Cool little dining spot in Sonoma. Had table right by kitchen so while interesting to watch chefs, it had a bit too much commotion. Steak was very good and Brussels sprouts were yummy. Wife's tuna was overdone but had good flavor. Wine list was ok for Sonoma but could have been broader. Would return to try other dishes."

  • "Exceptional cuisine, warm ambiance. Good wine list with atypical selections. Creative menu, fresh ingredients. The shaved fennel salad was superb. Fish and Lamb ragu were delicious. Friendly service without being overbearing. Open kitchen fun to watch. Healthy portions - no room for dessert!"

  • "I understand that the menu is very limited, since the focus is on fresh ingredients, but nothing was terribly appealing on the night we went. Although the gnocchi was very good, it was swimming in mushrooms and an overdose of rosemary. The appetizers were all variations of salad. Even with a reservation, we were given the choice of sitting at the table next to the door on a very cold evening, or waiting 45 minutes for another table. This was the most disapointing of our meals during our wine country weekend."

  • "If not, this came very close… top-notch fare, bountiful portions, pampering service… I think of the dozens of dinners we've had at EDK, Girl-Fig, La Salette, Cafe La Haye and, indeed, previously at HMC… this experience came close to pulling a Mary Lou Retton (perfect 10). Highly recommended."

  • "Each Thanksgiving, my farflung family gathers in Sonoma. A highlight of our stay is dinner at Harvest Moon. I think we've been going there, albeit just once a year, since it opened. It's always delicious. I have to admit that my favorite dish ever there was the butternut squash lasagna made with local Sonoma cheese (I think it was Bellwether Crescenza), and I've not been there when it was on the menu for at least two years now (sigh). Also the meat-eaters in my family say that the steak is one of the best, anywhere. One wish would be that the menu would have a designated vegetarian dish every night! But that being said, Harvest Moon is a real gem. and it doesn't take more than one meal there to know that it's a labor oflove!."

  • "We've lived in Sonoma for a couple years and have been slowly working our way through the restaurants. We highly recommend Harvest Moon. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if I could. We sat with a view of the kitchen which wasn't all that big a deal, except how four guys can cook in that small a space is incredible. I had the rib eye and it was truly tasty. My wife had the Arctic Char and liked it a lot. We'll be back."

  • "We have walked past the Harvest Moon Cafe numerous times without even noticing it, although it sits right on the square. We needed to find a last minute place for dinner on Friday night, and they had availability at 7:30. What a surprise and delight. A cozy, attractive venue with amazing food. Our group of four had salads, pasta, fish and meat dishes, and all were superb. Nice wine list and good service as well. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "When you walk into Harvest Moon, you are not impressed with the décor. All of that drains away when you order and your server returns. You are treated with an unbelievable hint and blend of Mediterranean spices that bring out the best in your locally grown and harvested feast. The menu changes daily. While wine is always special, I started out with a French Red Ale - Gavroche. Spectacular. We both started out with the beef barley soup. Yum! My wife enjoyed the Ahi (perfectly seared) and I enjoyed the rib eye,,,,,amazing! We finished off the evening with a Muscato and Persimmon Pudding with Pecan Caramel Ice Cream.. Our serving staff was marvelous. This is a hidden gem. Needless to say...We'll be back!"

  • "My fiancé and I went there to celebrate a new job, and the experience could not have been better. The food was superb, and the service was exceptional. A wonderful location on the city square in Sonoma. The patio seating was covered and heated, so it was comfortable and inviting. This is a keeper. We will definitely be back."

  • "Service was great as well! Attentive and friendly. The food was delicious and the atmosphere romantic. It does get a little loud as it is a small place. The bread and butter are outstanding, which is something that I usually don't notice. The steak was excellent and my risotto rich with flavor. Highly recommended. Plus, the prices are reasonable!"

  • "This was a true surprise. Very unpretentious spot with different menu made with local produce every night. We tried the srimp bisque which was deliciousand the Bucattini with por ragu and truffles. Mmm out of this world. The entrees were perfect size: grilled sea bass on a bed of parsnip and beef with coconut curry and jasmine rice. Both well done very tasty. A must if visiting Sonoma. Enjoy"

  • "Our local favorite, changing menu. Always well prepared, fettuccine to die for..herbs, mushrooms touch crime frail he and delectable Salads are large and crisp, resonate with fresh produce. My wife had roasted chicken, large serving , juicy and paired nicely with risotto. Wine list by glass very limited, could use better local selections in my view. Indoor dining closely spaced, little privacy and not a place for private conversations. Service adequate, unobtrusive but not a lot of wine/food knowledge"

  • "We had a very special casual New Year's Eve dinner at Harvest Moon. They served a four course dinner with wonderful choices, and each course was delicious and special. The tiny restaurant has patio seating in the summer, and they tent the patio and add heaters in the winter, so it was casual, but warm and cosy, not crowded really lovely, and a wonderful way to celebrate. The service is excellent, giving advice when asked and helping to make choices among the offerings. A special local destination in Sonoma."

  • "My wife and I chose to treat ourselves to the Harvest Moon Cafe's New Year's Eve dinner and we were sure happy we did. The limited choice fixed menu was exceptional and unique. The service outstanding and the atmosphere casual and friendly. Owners conversed with diners, service impeccable and unobtrusive. Highlights if the meal included shrimp bisque, a rabbit ragout and an entree of black cod and lobster tail. A wonderful eclectic wine list which features wines from all over the world. We'll return."

  • "My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Harvest Moon Cafe while we were on our honeymoon in Napa. The food was spectacular--my wife had the curry dish and I had the bolognese. Both were wonderful. The bread was great, the wines were tasty, and the chocolate pots de creme was a superb finish to the meal. When we come back to this side of the country we will most certainly be stopping by here again!"

  • "After wine tasting in the Sonoma areas, four of us booked a table at this touted farm to table café. Personnel are very friendly and offered us the option of sitting on the patio which is covered with a tent and heaters or inside in the small dining area. Sitting at a table watching the workings of the kitchen staff was perfect. For a table share we ordered the salmon crudo-fantastic. The beet and cauliflower salad was excellent as was the winter vegetable soup. Our pork belly and pork shoulder entrée was large enough to split and the deep fried rabbit was different and satisfying. Everything tasted fresh and was prepared with precision. This is a casual spot for a laid back meal."
