Diner Reviews
  • "The food was very good and service was outstanding. On the expensive side. Reserve for very special occasions."

  • "Haru's ambience made it the most enjoyable. The menu is full of tasty options and it is certainly hard to pick, however, the couple plates I did order did not live up to expectations. The main issue was the sauces and dips that did not pair well with any of my dishes. Also, the food took a WHILE to come out and I mean a while. The kitchen was backed up. This would have been fine but our waitress did not communicate that to us or offer us something while we were waiting. A 40 minute wait for two appetizers deserves some recognition. "

  • "I discovered Haru about 6 years ago. It has been my favorite restaurant ever since. The service has always been excellent. The sushi is some of the best I've ever had. The king crab dumplings melt in your mouth. My only regret is that I live 2 hours away and I don't get to go there nearly as often as I would like."

  • "I usually go by myself and its a nice place for a quiet meal of Japanese type - enjoyable."

  • "Sushi rolls were amazing. Steamed dumplings less than mediocre. Will go back to try other rolls."

  • "Everything was terrific--food, service, ambiance, proximity to Symphony--a lovely dinner!"

  • "I have had lunch here three times in the last two months, each time with a friend. The raw fish dishes are inventive, scrumptuous, and plentiful. The Salmon Don has six large pieces of raw salmon served on top of rice and shredded daikon. The fish was very fresh and, considering the price of sushi and sashimi, the value ($22) is excellent. My friend loved the teriyaki and, another time, a shrimp dish with noodles. The music can be a little loud, so too the fan for the heating system. However, on all three occasions when I requested that the (rock) music and heating fan be turned down, my request was honored without further ado. Had this courtesy not been shown, I would have been much less inclined to return a second and third time."

  • "We didn't think that the food was too great. Also, I found an eyelash on my food. The waitress took it back and discounted our bill, but I would not go back to Haru. Unfortunately, I would not recommend to friends or family. There are a lot of options for sushi around Boston that are much better."

  • "My husband and I visit Haru once a year when we make our annual visit to Anime Boston because it is a consistently enjoyable experience. The food is exceptionally fresh and flavorful. We tried the seasonal "Summer Spring Rolls" as an appetizer this time and we were not disappointed: an amazing blend of fresh, crisp ingredients. Definitely a must try! And you can't ask for fresher sushi and sashimi. Truly melt-in-your-mouth quality fish! If you're looking for outstanding food in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere, give Haru a try."

  • "I know its Restaurant Week, but still, I was very disappointed in my last visit to Haru. We arrived a few minutes early for a 1:15 p.m. lunch reservation, and were promptly seated. However, it took forever to get served -- even water. My friend and I both ordered miso soup -- and it took at least one-half to be served the soup! Its only soup, folks -- it really isn't cooked to order. We were on our lunch break, and when our entrees were served, we asked for the check then, and still, it took some time to get the check paid and to send us on our way. Service has never been Haru's strong suit, but this time, it was atrocious. Usually, the food is wonderful, but the chicken in my chicken teriyaki lunch box was totally tasteless. Sad,"

  • "Haru is overall a really solid sushi restaurant in Boston's energetic Back Bay area. The sushi is definitely some of the best in Greater Boston, with some excellent and creative custom rolls. Although there appear to be other places that slightly outdo them in terms of quality, the ambience is hard to beat though and that's why I can't wait to go back!"

  • "I was pleasantly surprised by the delightful find that is Haru Sushi in Boston. After a long day of work, we needed somewhere that was going to accommodate us well, and every single thing we tried on the menu was impeccable. We tried: * Chicken Yakitori Skewers * Agadashi Tofu * Spicy Filet Mignon Starter * Boston UnCommon Roll * Rainbow Roll * Chicken Udon There was nothing on the menu that wasn't spectacular--however, the Chicken Udon wasn't on the menu. My wife requested it, and was told that they could make it, "But it will be three dollars more." We never found out "more than what?" If time hadn't been a factor, we would have eaten here all four nights of our stay. As it is, we're bringing friends back tonight!"

  • "Food was ok. I liked the restaurant week menu. Waitress was overwhelmed it seemed and service could have been better. We had to wait a while before she took our order. Overall, ok...I've had better Sushi and Haru will not be on my revisit list."

  • "Great service and delicious food. the sushi was incredibly fresh. They were able to handle my food allergy no problem. GF soy sauce is available"

  • "The food was good. We went for restaurant week/dine out Boston so we had the popcorn shrimp (which was basically the size of an entree), sushi special (my friend said the samurai one was also good and I tried the teriyaki salmon and it was yummy) and then green tea mochi ice cream. The waitress was nice but not very attentive to water glasses. I think the tuna could have been a little bit fresher but the salmon and yellowtail sashimi were delicious."

  • "The food was excellent, but the service did not live up to it. It was slow and disinterested from the moment we walked in before 6 pm. The greeter was on the phone but never gave us a glance. Another woman came over but got on the computer and never looked up. Finally my husband went over to a table and then someone came and led us to that very table. It was 5 mins before anyone appeared with water and another 5 mins before drinks were ordered. The drinks were slow coming, the ordering was slow, one appetizer was late, and the service was inattentive throughout. The waitress was pleasant but was not trained for the task. So on a not so busy night, and early, we were always looking around for service, for another glass of wine or whatever."

  • "Good sushi here, though it is not very traditional at all. new age versions so to speak. still rather good and not terribly pricey."

  • "Wow, the sushi is terrific, but only worth it if you have a couple hours to spend waiting on the terrible service. I have never waited over an hour to get four rolls. Plus it initially took the server 45 minutes just to take our order. Once the food was there, it was awesome. I'd definitely do take out, but probably wouldn't go back. The hostess was incredibly nice, though, and it's a really convenient spot."

  • "Overall great experience, the place was empty so for the most part it was pretty intimate. Our server was great, though I don't remember her name, but she was prompt with just about everything."

  • "Too many crying children and the bathroom was not working."

  • "Had a fantastic dinner at Haru Sushi. We asked our server Erica to make suggestions, and she definitely did not falter us. Her selections were excellent, making for a gluttonous, satisfying dinner."

  • "Excellent food, service and atmosphere in a great looking space: We will definitely return. If you are looking for a great sushi restaurant, this is it. No need to make a reservation weeks in advance nor deal with pretense as you may at other well known sushi venues around town. Just enjoy Haru!"

  • "Haru used to be a favorite of mine until now. I took myself there for lunch on my birthday. I love their escolar dishes. I was excited to see the old favorites listed. When I went to place my order, I was informed that they no longer carry escolar. In fact, I wasn't told this until I ordered sashimi. Why was half of the menu filled with escolar? They replace it with white tuna. NOT THE SAME. Definitely disappointing. The food I did order was less than mediocre and overpriced. Next time I'll go to Douzo or Oishii."

  • "Been here a few times. This time's service was better than the last couple of times. Server was more attentive and checked on food and refilled drinks better. Food is just kind of ok. Nothing special and super exciting. Price is a bit on the pricy side considering the portion size. Very disappointed that the Fish Taco is now only 2 pieces instead of 3."

  • "The food was very good, but service was a little lacking. Our server was not very attentive and the restaurant was not crowed."

  • "We were seated and they told us it would be at least 30 mins for anything from the sushi bar and we were told we could order anything else.....so 1/4 of the menu. We said it was ok and put in a sushi order. Our waitress then came back and told us it would be 1 hour for food from the sushi bar. UNACCEPTABLE. We left."

  • "I went to have dinner at Haru with 3 other work colleagues. All 4 of us enjoyed the extremely fresh sushi that was served to us. We really liked their menu options (lots of variety) and great service as well! It was just a perfect dining experience!"

  • "Joined a colleague for a business lunch. The restaurant wasn't very busy, though a mild snow storm had hit the day before. I ordered sashimi and sushi, but the waitress delivered only sashimi. The waitress was very attentive. In lieu of a return order, I gobbled up the fresh fish. Overall it’s reasonably priced and a good spot for a business lunch (across from the Marriott-Copley)"

  • "Sushi was delicious. A little overpriced but very good. Uncommonwealth Roll out of this world. Specials are good but pricey. Wine also overpriced but good wine list."

  • "Had a great dinner at Haru recently. (I am actually a frequent flyer there.) They have great sushi and a nice atmosphere. We also love the hot and sour soup (very spicy), salads and sake. The service was very accommodating to our group of six and we were seated at a nice round table that made it easy for us all to chat. The food is consistantly good and I am sure I will be back often."

  • "I won a gift card recently for Haru Boston so my friend and I decided to give a try. The drinks were quite good and most of the sushi we had was great, (the Boston Sushi had a little too much lettuce than anything else). Although they serve other types of food, if sushi is you thing, then definitely try here!"

  • "First and foremost, this restaurant serves REALLY GOOD food. Tried the Shogatsu for appetizer (unbelievably tasty) and the Chilean Sea Bass for the entree (equally scrumptious). I also had the tuna sashimi (really fresh). The only issue we had while dining was the absurdly long time it took to get the food. From the time we checked in at 8PM (granted it was New Year's Eve), our appetizers didn't arrive until 9PM. It wasn't the wait staff's fault. In fact, she came to our table twice to apologize for the delay. That aside, the food was absolutely great. We would definitely go back there."

  • "The greatest sushi to eat in Boston. Quiet and romantic atmosphere. Finally, tempura cheesecake is awesome."

  • "One of the worst dining experience we had in years. There were 3 hosts when we walked in and not one of them greeted us with even a nod, let alone a "good evening" or "Hello." Once seated, we waited 15 min for our server. We received our appetizers 10 min before we got our cocktails. The soup and other appetizers came at varying times. The rice in the rolls was hot ruining the sushi. The "tuna" was mashed together like dog food as opposed to fresh sushi. My husband's entre never came. I spoke to a manager about our server needing help and she started to assist. We were there for 2 1/2 hrs and almost every moment of it was not pleasurable. Do not put this restaurant on your list of places to dine while in Boston!"
