A word from Harry's Cafe and Steak
With its large oval booths and rich bronze leather banquets, copper ceiling with walnut trim and particular lighting, the main dining room at Harry's Café & Steak caters to both Wall Streeters as well as residents of the burgeoning Financial district neighborhood. Patrons will immediately be drawn to the 47 foot bar, covered in solid, rich American Black Walnut. Gone are the six free telephones, stock ticker and munifacts machines that once graced the bar area of the original, replaced by a professional sound system and separate bar seating designed to create a distinct lounge area where guests can enjoy great cocktails as well as food. Our separate wine cellar dining room evokes memories of the original restaurant in a more intimate setting. The 70 seat wine cellar has its own entrance located on Pearl Street but is also accessible from the main dining room.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I have been coming to Harry's for the past 8 years and I absolutely love this place for brunch. My friends and I have been trying to keep it a secret for a long time - but I think the secret it out! Most brunch places that have a good deal for brunch drinks, generally lack on the food side. Harry doesn't ... the food is delicious. Only sad moment of my last visit: I wish they didn't take the duck dish off the brunch menu as it was my favorite ..."

  • "I have been coming to Harrys champagne brunch since its inception. It has been awhile since my last visit, so it was evident that the quality of food is not what it used to be. They are very generous with the champagne refills so I surmise that is why I noticed that the food portions have suffered. I ordered the Crabcake Benedict and the crabcake was below average in both quality and size. The food also came out almost instantaneously which was a bit frustrating when you want to take your time over a leisurely brunch. I also found the music to be entirely too loud. However, I think they do that to create a lively, club-y atmosphere. The best part was our waiter. He was sweet, funny, and quick to refill our glass."

  • "A group of friends and myself attended for brunch one rainy afternoon. The food was great! The service, on the other hand, started out wonderful but as the afternoon progressed our waiter seemed to forget about us. We had to constantly look around and ask for him if we had a question or comment. Luckily, we had two very attentive helpers/bus boys, Francisco and Mario to attend to us. They made sure our champagne glasses were always full and what we had the proper utensils and things we needed. I wish their wait staff was as attentive as the nice men who brought our food out. All in all I would recommend this spot again, but perhaps I would request a different waiter other than George."

  • "Harry's is frankly the best restaurant in NY period. With outstanding food which is consistently exceptional both at lunch and dinner you will never be disappointed. If you have never been to Harry's you are missing a real gem."

  • "All in all a very good experience. Service from front desk to tableside was very good. Menu has great choices that cater to all types of eaters. Food was very good. Two things I would note that did not detract from a good experience but worth noting. 1. They will only seat you when the entire group is present. 2. The music is loud making table talk a little tough. I would return without hesitation."

  • "It is always nice to dine at Harry's who greets you when you enter. One of the reasons why I choose Harry's is because of Harry himself. He reminds me of all the good memories I have of the Wall street area. This coupled with fine food, pleasant ambiance and friendly service makes for an enjoyable dining experience."

  • "Delicious food. Attentive wait staff. Just a favorite spot for a dinner with clients or friends. Price is worth the overall quality of complete package. Consistent. Went for birthday of best friend and had the best time. Dinner was amazing and we were not rushed. Very relaxed night. Have been over 10x and never disappoints!"

  • "Very nice spot with a candle light atmosphere. Lots of business partners seem to like to meet there but this could also be a very romantic location if you sit in one of those corners. The food is amazing, I had some oysters as appetizer and the sole for main course, which was absolutely delicious. Be aware that you need a resistant stomach because you will be full!!! Definitely recommending the restaurant."

  • "Went Saturday night about 8.15- reservations were still available but the restaurant was fairly full. The food was good but the loud music was earsplitting- could literally not hear my dinner companion across the table without shouting. When he was there which was only twice, our waiter was full of attitude and just couldn't be bothered. When we asked if the music could be turned down a little, he provided a withering look and stomped off. The service in general was awful and we had to ask- sometimes twice- for everything from bread to water and drink refills. It's a nice enough place with good food, but at this price point I would expect more than drive-through-window type of service. Will probably give it one more chance."

  • "Food was great, as always! We were seated immediately after arriving and the service was superb. We received our meals shortly after ordering, which gave us plenty of time to enjoy a leisurely lunch without taking 2 hours away from the office. Harry's is definitely our "go to place" in Lower Manhattan!"

  • "Harry's Cafe is my favorite spot in FiDi - This time I took a date there and we had an awesome waiter (Kostas) who took us through the intimidating wine list, and also offered great suggestions on food. He didn't try to steer our eyes to the more expensive dishes or wines, but really cared about us wanting to like what we were getting. He even let us sit there after our meal was done and finish our wine because he saw we were having a good time together. Never felt hurried or pressured. I continue to go back, and Harry's continues to amaze."

  • "I love Harry's, but was a little disappointed to see what champagne brunch has become. Lots of rules about being seated and having to order an entree before getting a drink. We were seated for at least 15 minutes before our server came by, and we were told no champagne until we placed a food order. We placed our order and still waited at least another 10 minutes before we got a drink because there were no clean glasses. In fact our food and first glass of champagne arrived within minutes of one another."

  • "The food was good and I very much like the historic atmosphiere. However the women who was the sommelier had some attitude. At first I thought she was just having a bad day but I think she just hates her job. When I am entertaining clients at $250 each I dont need one of our servers giving them a hard time."

  • "Be careful of your seating...Some tables are next to cash register, waiter staff activity can be distractive...Management not very experienced with handling customer dissatifaction....Could have been handled better....Food was good...Brocolli Rabe was tough...Steak was very good,"

  • "Since there is not enough characters to explain why I'm disappointed. Let me start with eating arrangements for a romantic dinner on Valentines day was my biggest disappointment. The restaurant was not crowded and yet they proceeded to sit couples who came in for a special dinner all in one corner on top of each other. We had an early reservation at 6pm and there was plenty of seating available, but they sat us right next to another couple on our right, and another couple came in they sat them right next to us on our left, another couple next to them, another couple across from us. Mind you still plenty of seating available and believe it or not a couple with a 1 year old child had better seating arrangements."

  • "The bottomless mimosa brunch for 2 hours is what pulled me to this place but the amazing food is what will bring me back. Everything was excellent and the orange juice may be the best I've ever had. Definitely a repeat brunch spot and will be trying it for dinner soon!"

  • "A very loud spot for lunch full of the wall street types, the real one's and the fakes. But the food, especially the steaks are top notch. Looking to make a deal, impress a colleague, then this is definitely a good pick!"

  • "Harry's is worth the effort. Tucked out of the way in a corner of the financial district, this restaurant was just perfect for a great steak and conversation. The tri-color salad was a differ t combination of rich flavor sand a wonderful start to the meal. As it was snowy and cold, my husband preferred the onion soup which was hearty wit habit too much bread for my taste, but he wS more than happy. The steaks weren't prepared just the way we like them with the sautéed mushrooms plenty to share."

  • "Great restaurant with great food and good location. It was a little too noisy as tables were really close to each other. Not sure if it was the day, but, we did not have a set waiter, therefore, we were not provided with the daily specials and no one came around to see how we were doing or to provide water throughout our meal. I will come back again to evaluate the service. I enjoyed my food, the environment and the company."

  • "This reincarnation of Harry's at Hanover Square is what it always was, only better. The 2006 renovation has created a warm feeling and opened up the cafe's large windows to allow for views down towards New York Harbor. It's the kind of place that, even at full capacity, doesn't feel over-crowded. It's upscale, but not stuffy. The food is delicious and service very attentive and professional."

  • "I have been to Harry's many times before and have always enjoyed it. However, on my last visit I found the service deplorable. The host tried to seat me at a table in a dungeon because he thought I didn't have a reservation. Our waiter could nota age to being our drinks until our meal was almost finished despite our asking him two times and the host. The food was good but there are other places with good food and much better service."

  • "Lunched with 4 people. Glad we had a reservation, ople waiting were backed up through the bar. Seated promptly but didn't see the waiter for quite some time after that. After asking for a wine list he disappeared for an inordinate amount of time again. Ordered our wine and some time after that he came back to take our order. Service was adequate after taking our order, just took quite some time. Had the lobster stuffed mushrooms. Very tasty, probably would be incredible if they gave 2 larger mushrooms instead of 4 smaller, great start. I had the scallops on risotto. They were done perfectly. One person in our group had the Kobe burger and asked for it medium rare and it came out medium well. It was good not great. Cost $500."

  • "Lots of changes since our last brunch here a few months ago. I've been here for lunch several times lately, but didn't note the missing duck hash til brunch. I'm a creature of habit...so it's always steak n cheese sandwich or chicken pail lard for this gal!!! However, 2 other members of our group noted its departure. Disappointed that bloodies aren't part of brunch anymore either. Our server did his best to make us happy. Overall, a good meal, but miss the good ole days!!!"

  • "We wanted a Classic New York experience for Thanksgiving Dinner---Harry's looked like a good choice. First of all the staff was excellent--warm, gracious but not too much. We specifically went so my husband could get Venison(which was excellent)! They did not rush us!. Most of the food was very good--the appetizers, the sides and the Venison. Sadly the Turkey was not! It was very dry --just seemed over cooked. I would come back again to have the venison--wish I would have ordered it and also to try their steaks. As far as noise--We felt the choice of rock music was not in keeping with Harry's overall feel and too loud. I understand the need to create a lively feeling but somehow ZZ Top(one of my favorites) did not fit with dinner"

  • "At our arrival, we were dictated to wait for our guests before sitting at our imposed table. The restaurant was empty at that moment so we requested to wait at the table of our choice instead. Unfortunately our guests arrived with 30 minutes delays that the manager came to remind us, after 15 minutes, very unkindly and unpleasantly by admonishing us that we were occupying a table and that we should have waited for our guests at the bar instead. We really felt bad after that sermon and even thought that we will be asked to free up the table until arrival of our guests. How nice when you pay a fortune for a simple lunch ! Some hospitality lessons are defintely needed !"
