The service was terrific and food was delicious and perfectly prepared. Our waiter, Tweed, was knowledgeable about all items on the menu and a really friendly and attentive waiter. All around great experience. We seem to lately be gravitating toward the newer and trendier restaurants that seem to be popping up everywhere in Chicago. Our evening, however, could not have been better!! Our group was large (nine people) and we were able to easily carry on conversations without shouting. In addition, the food was outstanding!! No one in our group had anything but rave reviews about the food ordered. The most impressive facet of our experience, however, was the outstanding service we received. Our server was not only competent and skillful, but he was personable, engaging, and entertaining. Instead, Harry Caray's is one of the best steakhouses around and a Chicago landmark. Check out the bar that's 60' 6'' long (just like from the pitcher's mound to home plate) and the remains of the Bartman ball, then get ready for great food. The steaks are awesome, just be sure to ask to see the meat tray. You'll learn something! The service goes the extra mile as well. Portions are huge on the sides, so ask about half portions if you're not in a group. It's a very nice place for a dinner without being too formal.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMHoly Cow it was greatMy wife and I chose Harry Caray's for our big 'night out' while on our recent Chicago visit. It was an excellent choice and did not disappoint. The steaks were excellent and overall the meal was great. I have to say I have never seen a wait staff so energetic, professional and on the ball. From my vantage point I could see the flurry of non-stop activity, waiters helping each other, seemingly anticipating each other's next move. It was quite a sight.
Overall, this was a great choice and we were well pleased with our choice. Next time I won't order quite so large a steak though. Only disappointment was being sat way in the back of a room that was 1/4 full. (We were way overdressed so it wasn't that). Nice waiter who gave hubby a free beer. The restaurant is housed in a wonderfully maintained old building, filled with sport (mostly baseball) memorabilia. Recently dined here for a business lunch, and the food, service and atmosphere were perfect. The meal started with a great appetizer - a crostini trio. My favorite of the three toppings was the white bean puree - think gourmet hummus. My colleagued loved the fontina fondue. Neither my companion nor I are meat eatters, but we had a surprisingly large selection of entree options. We both opted for pasta - one in a vodka sauce and, the other, a butternut squash ravioli. They were both delicious. The server and wait staff were charming and very "old school" gentlemen.
