Diner Reviews
  • "First time to the restaurant the food was great and the atmosphere was wonderful! We would definitely go back!"

  • "Horrible service and grossly overpriced food blemish a special place. This is a must stop for Chicagoans, baseball fans, etc. seems they must realize that because they've jacked the price of a good steak past $50 and have aloof, preoccupied waiters who have to be prodded into offering the nights specials. Go there for the ambience, never go back for the prices and waut staff."

  • "Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse is my go-to place for a group of colleagues coming to Chicago for the first time. Great location, Chicago history, fantastic steak for those who have heard about the quality of steak in the Midwest, fun atmosphere and outstanding service. The food is excellent and there is great Chicago blues/jazz near the restaurant for those who wish to experience more of what makes Chicago great. I was also impressed by how helpful the staff was in setting up a pre-planned menu to keep to a rather tight timeline and manage cost within our budget."

  • "The truffle butter steak was exceptional. My husband does not normally order steak because we make the best steaks at home but he said that it was one of the best and I agree because he let us all taste. My son had the seared tuna which was excellent too. I had the veal Marsala which I thought was ok. The gravy could have been more flavorful. Veal was nice and tender. The wine that was suggested for the veal was perfect!"

  • "Our waiter kept bring our group complimentary desserts and were great about splitting up meals/side/salads/plates that were being shared. The food came over very quickly for a group of 15."

  • "You have to check this place out if you're visiting Chicago--just because! A lot of baseball history with cool memorabilia. The prices are a little higher than they should be; but definitely worth checking out at least once."

  • "The food was great. Big portioned appetizer and sides. The delivery food was in accurate order. Our server asked each of us if our meat and pasta was prepared to our preferences. The noise was very vibrant and definitely not the romantic place to take a date to "talk." But it's great in a group of friends, because there will rarely be awkward silences."

  • "We went on a Friday, and it being lent we did not order steak. I just want to mention this up front, bc it could be that the steaks really are that good, you would come just for those. We had two teen girls with us and they not only allowed them to split a meal w no split plate charge, but they also split the meals in the kitchen for them, giving them each a nice portion. The calamari appetizer was plentiful, and the best calamari we've ever had. The guys enjoyed the fish, it was flaky and seemed to be tilapia. The pasta dishes overall were very bland and not worth the money. The chicken in the pasta had a very strange flavor. The tiramisu and creme brulee were delish and enough to share. Service was wonderful."

  • "Once a Chicago favorite, I would now skip this restaurant. It used to be a bright, lively restaurant with a menu that could please just about everyone. Now, its a tired space with dim lighting, cramped seating, no management of large groups, Poor quality cuts of meat. Highs; potatoes and asparagus were delightful. Had they filled the plate we would a least not have gone away hungry. Lows; filet mignon poor quality cuts that should never have made their way out of the kitchen. Deserts were average at best. Price: excessive for the atmosphere, food quality and service."

  • "If you're looking for a great bar and a really good restaurant, you can't beat the original Harry Caray's on Kinzie Street. Whenever I come to Chicago I always make a point to drink and dine at this famous watering hole. Over the years, I've come to respect Harry Caray's as one of the best steakhouses in the city. Book early since it fills up fast! P.S. the restaurant also has a nice upstairs room for private parties."

  • "Harry Caray's is a very popular restaurant in Chicago that I had surprisingly never eaten at. Overall everything from service to the food was very good. Our entire party seemed to choose steak options from the menu over the Italian options offered. Even though everything was very good I would not rank it over other steakhouse high-end options in the city. Service was very good but someone in our party felt it was a bit rushed."

  • "When I arrived, I got a Spaghetti Warehouse vibe and it was anything but once I sampled the food. The food was excellent and service was excellent. Don't let the decor fool you."

  • "Brought the family this time during Spring Break. Jesse, our server, was top notch and the food is always terrific. We had steaks, seafood and pasta - all perfect! The Brussels sprouts with pancetta are one of the best sides I've ever had anywhere"

  • "A great restaurant, with a great bar, incredible ambience and outstanding food. Our only fault was the service in the restaurant - service in the bar was great but in the restaurant they were either short of staff and our server was overloaded, or he just was incredibly inattentive. We tried to order another drink after dinner, and actually thought we had, he looked at us, we pointed to our drinks and he nodded his head as if he understood, but he didn't come back for another 15 minutes and when he did he had our bill. By that point we were ready to leave. The chicken vesuvius and prime rib were both great. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Chicago."

  • "We were there the friday night that everyone was enjoying St. Patrick's day, so it was a little crazy and loud. However, I had the best streak ever. It was cooked exactly right and was very timely. The service was really good and the place was fun. I liked it because you can have an excellent steak and not have to dress up."

  • "Not my first time here, but was for a couple of my friends. Except for being extremely pricey, they also feel it is top quality and atmosphere. We were there on St. Patrick's Day, having lunch before a matinee, and there was no problem with getting us seated, served and billed with plenty of time to make an early appearance at the show, but without feeling we were being rushed. There was a lot of noise because of the major partying going on in the bar and upstairs. Washrooms were hard to get into, but since that isn't the norm, it's not something that would prevent any of us from going again. Highly recommend as one of my favorite restaurants, just be prepared for sticker shock!! 8oz petite fillet is $35, and everything is a la carte."

  • "Waiter was quite nice and provided good service. The food was good. They allowed me to order a half order of pasta. I do think the prices were high for what was received. I paid $48 for a side salad, half order of pasta and 2 $9 glasses of wine. Seems a bit much."

  • "This restaurant is everything you could want for business dinners or having friends out. I recommend it and always make it a stop when in Chicago."

  • "Way too much parmesan on the chicken parmesan -- overly thick, not enough marinara sauce. Toasted raviolis are awesome every time. Next time I'll stick with chicken vesuvio which is mouthwatering."

  • "When we booked our trip to chicago, this was a restaurant I definitely wanted to eat at. While it is a landmark of the city, I was not as impressed as what I had expected. We went on a Friday night with a couple of friends and the place was dead. The food was no better than any other restaurant I have experienced. You are basically paying higher prices because of the name I feel. It was a restaurant I knocked off "the list" but I don't feel like I would have any need to go again."

  • "We only had 1 hour to squeeze in dinner. Staff did great job. Wet aged rib eye was incredible, as we're the sides. Even house wine was a nice surprise. Great chop house w/ bonus sports history."

The service was exceptional with good advice on which wine to choose. The food as on past visits was well presented and cooked beautifuly. We will certainly book again on our next visit"

  • "On my visit, while waiting for the dining room to open I visited the bar area - very fun scene, and very friendly bartenders; great beer and wine choices and recommendations. During dinner we were attended to by our server perfectly, never waiting or getting too much attention. The food presentation was fantastic. The food was very hot when it arrived at the table, and everything was good! Toasted 4 cheese ravioli for starter was a great pick!"

  • "Enjoyed the dinner on Valentine's day, but the service was different than the last time I was there a couple years ago. Before it was very professional, and the food was excellent. This time, the waiter was GREAT, but the overall experience was not what I expected. I ordered eggplant parmesan, which was good, but not as good as I remembered. We also ordered a beef rib-eye, cooked medium, but it was definitely undercooked. Bright vibrant red inside; at best it could be called medium rare. For the price I believe I can reasonably expect the beef to be precise. No, I did not send it back; this never works out well. Overall, I was disappointed. Not sure I will ever go back."

  • "We decided to give this a whirl on valentines and it was a great expirence. We both ordered steaks. My gal ordered the filet miginon and I ordered the New York strip that our server recommended. It was the dry aged steak. Not one bite of mine was the same as the last. The steak was full of flavor and very enjoyable. I the filet actually left a little to be desired but still very good. We ordered the baked potato and broccoli as sides and they were excellent. The wine list is excellent as well. The service was impeciable... Overall it was a great expirence and we plan on coming back.."
