Diner Reviews
  • "Service was exceptional, food was great. I couldn't have asked for a better dining experience."

  • "This is a quaint, classy restaurant in downtown Indianapolis. It is next door to St. Elmo's Steakhouse, and is a bit more informal than its neighbor. The wine selection is pretty impressive, with a healthy choice of worthy reds. The tomato basil soup was quite nice, and the filet mignon (petit) was perfectly done. Service was top notch. I would gladly dine here again."

  • "Paris was my server. He made my dinning experience spectacular. He was warm and friendly. He did an excellent job checking on me. He wasn't push. I truly enjoyed where I was seated. The view was perfect. I will mention that I was on time for my reservation, but I had to wait almost 30 minutes. As a courtesy, I could have been offered a complimentary glass of wine for my wait."

  • "We have dined here many times. It is always fantastic. This time, we had a last minute change to our reservation (4 people from 2.) I called the morning of our reservation to make the increase. They were not able to accommodate our change at the same time, but could 15 min earlier. It was so nice they worked with me and the 15 minutes wasn't a big deal."

  • "I have been to this location several times and always pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere. Kid friendly and good for larger groups. Can get busy in the evening so best to have reservations in advance. The menu has variety from sandwiches to top end steaks. Will continue to return to this great place."

  • "We had 6 in our party and 3 were happy with their order and 3 of us were not. My tenderloin was burnt and the chicken Alfredo ordered by 2 of us was not good."

  • "Ordered off of the devour downtown menu for lunch. The salad was excellent, but my wife and 2 others ordered the french onion and tomato basil soup, and were disappointed. We all ordered prime rib sandwiches, and while everyone liked it, no one considered it a dish they would order again. The service was very good, and the place is very well decorated and classy, but the food just did not meet my expectations. I will probably come back again sometime, but there are definitely other restaurants I would want to try first."

  • "Harry and Izzzy's has become a first stop when we visit Indy. Favorites include filet, Brussel sprouts and sinus clearing shrimp cocktail."

  • "The food was okay, but I wouldn't pay the price again for the food we received. The only thing that was more than just "okay" was the shrimp cocktail and cocktail sauce. Also, our waiter wasn't very good either. He was very attentive at first, but as the meal went on, he rarely showed up. It took us over two hours from the time we sat down to the time we received our check. Although St. Elmo's is the sister restaurant, I was much more impressed with St. Elmo's than I was Harry & Izzy's. We were a party of 8 and all of us decided we probably won't be visiting again."

  • "I found Harry & Izzy's to have a more rounded menu than St. Elmo's. I started with the best spinach salad ever! None of the heavy dressing and tasteless mushrooms; this salad had bits of sweet/smoky (indescribably delicious!) bacon, flavorful cheese, and finished with a light, slightly citrus dressing. For my entree, I ordered two appetizers. The shrimp was like Bonefish's Bang-Bang shrimp; outstanding. But the little bone-in steak chops with herbed butter melted on top...well, I'm embarrassed to say that after getting all I could off the bone with my knife and fork, I picked them up and ate with my fingers to get every delicious bite! We dine downtown frequently, and I can say I haven't enjoyed a meal that much in a very long time."

  • "Had the 6 oz fillet, medium, and it was like butter. Everything leading up to the main course was just as delicious. The romaine hearts salad was a decent sized portion, and a delicious blend of ingredients. As always, the shrimp cocktail was fire. One of my favorite places to go when I want a great steak but not in the mood for St. Elmo's or Ruth's Chris. I love the ambiance at Harry & Izzy's."

  • "Great food and atmosphere. Our server was very quick even though it was extremely busy."

  • "I am a frequent customer of Harry and Izzy's and always enjoy the food and the service is top notch. This visit the food was really not of the normal caliber for me anyway. The service was also at a "B" level at best, and actually closer to a "C" or "D" Having said that, every restaurant is going to have an off night, and this is the first one I have ever had at H and I. Same with the service. I will always go back, and will always recommend it too!"

  • "Excellent food and service. A bit pricey for regular dining."

  • "We waited an hour and a half and went through 2 servers prior to our orders being taken. The food Was very good but service was so bad u would not recommend the place again."

  • "Parts of the meal were very good but not everything. I'd read some other reviews where folks had commented on the steak being sub-par, especially for a steak place, but I thought that it could be just an off meal here and there. Nope -- the ribeye was only okay. The flavor was fine but not as juicy as I like for this cut and too much gristle (not marbled/fat either -- I know the difference). The rest of the meal was quite good and the service was excellent. My wife's fish was great and the shrimp cocktail -- awesome, just as you would expect of the same one at St. Elmo's."

  • "We've gone to Harry & Izzy's annually with a large group of 10 or so and always enjoyed it. They've handled the large group well, and food has always been enjoyable. Only concern this year was one of our diner's found his steak to have too much gristle. We were in a hurry to leave, so the restaurant didn't have time to offer him something else. The rest of us enjoyed our steaks and other food."

  • "We make this an annual stop when we visit Indy. We prefer it over its stuffy big brother St. Elmo's... same great food but a much more modern and with it vibe."
    Dined on 8/13/2014
  • "Good service, good food, reasonably priced specials for lunch. The only drawback was the drinks - quite watered down and expensive."

  • "My wife and I had dinner before a concert downtown 8/12/14. The food was great! The service was great! We love Harry & Izzy's. We have never been disappointed any time we have been to your restaurants."

  • "Our dinner experience was a bit disappointing! Our dinner was "ok" but the noise level in the upstairs dining area made it extremely difficult to hear the people in our booth! It started out great (appetizer shrimp was delicious & HOT) and as the room filled up...must be their party room!!....it went downhill. Our server was nice but as the room filled...we felt forgotten. It got sooo noisy, that we decided to go elsewhere for our coffee & dessert. It was our first time at this restaurant & I believe our last."

  • "This was probably my third or fourth dining visit to Harry and Izzy's and it was every bit as exceptional as in the past. Obviously the shrimp cocktail is amazing and the steaks are every bit as good. The Sunday three-course menu is such a great way to introduce people to the restaurant or encourage returns. Only issue for me (and you obviously cannot please everyone on this front) was that the Sauvignon Blanc available by the glass was kind of heavy and minerally, which is just not the flavor I prefer. Being such a popular selection these days, it would be nice to see more than one option offered by the glass for that grape. But really, food, service (and other drink options) will have me coming back every time I am in Indy."

  • "A group of us dine at Harry and Izzy's once a year prior to the DCI Finals competition and love it every time we come. I would highly recommend this establishment. The service is impeccable!! Their shrimp cocktail is out of this world!! Wish there was one close to my home......I would be a regular!!"

  • "This was my second visit to Harry and Izzy's-Downtown, and I must say, both times have been underwhelming. Steaks are far below what I would expect from a high end steakhouse. Service is decent, but again falls short of high end standard. Will stick to Morton's going forward."

  • "Excellent food, not the best service however it was a great time. I would encourage recommending customers not to sit outside during bike week...."

  • "Food was fine, although steak was a bit dry, which was surprising based on past visits. Service was subpar. It started out well, but once we received our cocktails and appetizers, we rarely saw our server again. The extra cocktail sauce we ordered never came and 45 minutes passed from the time they cleared the salad plates until the steaks arrived. The MIA server promised us a special dessert for our anniversary, but he must have left that with the extra cocktail sauce. We could have let the manager know, but we never saw him/her, either. Overall, this visit was not up to typical Harry & Izzy standards. Consistent excellence is a benchmark of a great restaurant. This time, they missed the traget."

  • "We visit the restaurant at least once a month, the shrimp cocktail is always a fav, and we normally go with whatever dinner special they have and have always been happy. However on this occasion the steak was far below average, the waitress was amazing and did her best to help, but after spending over $200 on a meal I didn't think it was to much to ask to speak to a Mgr. I was not looking for a refund or even a discount, just to let them know it wasn't what we had come to expect. We were going to use them for our rehearsal dinner as well as it has significant meaning to us, but after being snubbed by the Mgr who we where told was "to busy at the time" we will look elsewhere. I know our 200, means 0 but it will probably be spent elsewhere"

  • "Our waitress was exceptional and truly had the best recommendations. I tried a nice Pinot Noir that I have not seen on any other wine lists before and it was very good. I had the Izzy's favorite steak with reduced peppercorns (plenty on it for most people) and the incredible orange butter sauce. on the side Wow! My other dining companions had burgers which they really enjoyed, especially when they dipped their burger in my sauce. I would say that this is a must stop place in Indianapolis. You can get the same beef as is served in the upscale, more expensive parent restaurant next door. Just be prepared that the steaks are still a bit expensive but so darn good!"

  • "Impromptu lunch with several business partners on Thursday. Food good as always. Doing a seafood boil at home over the weekend purchased the cocktail sauce for the dinner. What a big hit that was this weekend."

  • "This is the 3rd year that our same group of 6 from different parts of the US meet at this restaurant at a round table in the Rosen Room before the start of the DCI Championships. Great venue, great steaks, great service and and excellent wine list. The men had the Kansas City bone-in steak and the ladies had the small filet. 2 bottles of the 2012 Caymus 40th Anniversary cabernet made the perfect pairing. We'll be back again next year!"

  • "There were 8 of us in our group for lunch. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the grilled salmon and fried green tomatoes. Both were delicious. Another girl had the Asian shrimp and kept saying how delicious it was. This was her first time there and she really loved the atmosphere as well as the food."

  • "We had big expectations as this is a "sister" restaurant to Indianapolis icon St Elmo's. Wait staff informed us that their beef was the same as St Elmo's. I had the surf and turf. Both the steak and lobster tail were prepared well, but were not fresh off the grill. I'm guessing prepared in advance, or, sat before delivered to our table. At these prices, I expect a freshly prepared meal, promptly served when it comes off the grill. Our waitress was attentive and paced our service perfectly, so I'm assuming we were served food that may have been prepared somewhat in advance of delivery. Steak was not sizzling. Lobster tail was dry. At these prices, a disappointment."

  • "Treated a friend from out of town to one of my favorite places to go for a good meal. Two of us, but seated next to two large groups, upstairs on the terrace where the noise from the large groups and noise from the space below just reverberated, made it hard to hear. It also meant our waiter, who had one of the two large groups, was not as attentive as I'm used to. I'm sure it's not a frequent occurrence but worth mentioning. I don't typically experience that in the northside location, which is my preferred location of the two. Also worth mentioning that the menu seems to have been minimized - seems there used to be a lot more, like a Caprese Salad, which I didn't see anymore. I didn't ask for it anyway, but hope it doesn't get shorter."

  • "I ate here for a business dinner and it was great. The waiter was excellent in explaining the wine and food selections. The ambiance is suitable for a business dinner as well as with friends plus the location was perfect to walk to from downtown hotels."

  • "Great restaurant if not crowded. We had two large groups near and couldn't hear each other in our adjacent booth upstairs; we were gracefully reseated on request, but noise level was still challenging off-and-on."

  • "We had excellent wait service provided by multiple servers. Our water glasses and non-alcoholic drinks were constantly refreshed without our asking. Food arrived hot and cooked to our liking. Fillets were very tender. Serving of salmon was huge. Their signature shrimp cocktail with fiery horseradish sauce was a hit."
