  • "The service was not up to the standards of the restaurant. Service should be impeccable when you're ordering a 50-75 dollar steak per person. We were a group of 6 people, and they added a two-top table to the end of a banquet which was uncomfortable for the two people that had to sit on the chairs in the aisle.."

  • "This restaurant has got it down. Celebrating our sons 21st birthday here was a hit. Yes, it is expensive with cocktails but what the heck. Mixologist Robert at the bar was charming, knowledgeable and treated us like friends. Our server was so attentive and professional and patient. Jazz in the bar was inspiring. Food was done perfectly and creatively. Dessert? Well what can you say about an adorable pod of Baked Alaska except, delish! We may take another trip to San Fran just to go back to Harris'"

  • "Ambience could be a little more personal, maybe the lights a little dimmer but overall very nice. Prefer the piano lounge over the dining room which is even brighter and more open. The service was good but a little inattentive, I won't complain (further). Food was really good with a couple of shortcomings. I had the steak tartare which disappointingly wasn't their forte. The French onion soup was perfect though. I had the Australian wagyu rib-eye for a main. The meal was fantastic, the steak juicy and tender despite being more well-done then medium as requested. Of all places, I'd think they would know how to cook a steak as ordered. Medium should have pink and there wasn't any. I think the quality of the steak saved them there."

  • "We ate here as a business dinner. The ambience is nice, but not scenic. Plenty of space and not too loud (except for a shrieking child nearby). We ate on a Sunday night with a piano player who was excellent. Relaxing music and not loud. The food was excellent and the service was adequate but not on par with the food. The steaks were cooked perfectly. Would probably eat here again."

  • "Harris was once the best steakhouse in the City. Now it isn't even in the top 10. Lackluster and inattentive service - removing cocktail and wine glasses without offering a refill, not refilling bread or water glases, not bringing food out to everyone at the table at the same time. The steaks were mediocre, the Caesar salad bland, the onion soup lacked cheese, and the side dishes were inedible. The atmosphere is not what you expect in a fine steakhouse - crying babies, people dressed in shorts and t-shirts (despite the dress code policy on the restaurant's web site). Of course, they charge prices only a high-end steakhouse should get. But the tourists seem to keep coming! Don't waste your money, there are better options for great steaks."

  • "In from Dallas, my wife and I chose this restaurant based on the high reviews on Open Table, Yelp and being named a Top 10 steak house. I regret going to this restaurant and can't believe they felt their product was worth $250. Read on if you you like, or simply change your reservation to another steak house. Our cocktails were great and how they served my Manhattan was well done. The service was also terrific. That is where the good stopped. To be blunt, the NY strip I buy at Costco is more tender than the dry aged bone-in NY at Harris's. I couldn't believe the lack of flavor and coarseness of my cut and the same went for my wife's filet. The steak was overall of very poor quality and preparation. The potato was also poor"

  • "I had several colleagues in with me for business meetings and several wanted steak. There is only one place that is both "San Francisco and steak" and that is Harris'. I have been visiting Harris' for at least 25 years and it never disappoints."

  • "Went there with a group of 6 people on a Friday Night. We were seated right away but what was weird is that they gave us (6 people) a 4-people table with an extended table added to the end with 2 extra chairs, it looked so temporary and awkward. Food and Wine were great! Service was good. We spent $1000+ for this meal but two people finished the meal very uncomfortably the whole time. Totally is not something we expected to be treated. I would recommend people NOT to make reservation for 6 people. You will have to get your party size right, either 4 or 8 people in order to sit comfortably."

Its decor has not changed much over the years and it looks like the type of place where gentlemen would have met to woo clients or forge business deals ( think Madmen). From the moment you step inside their doors the staff welcomes you. They devote enough attention to each guest to make you feel special without feeling intruded upon. They offer details of specials and will suggest wines if asked. The steaks are fabulous, seasoned and cooked perfectly to order. The sides and salads compliment the steaks because the steaks are the stars."

  • "My husband had the steak and was pretty pleased, but said it was a little overcooked. As a vegetarian, I didn't have a lot of options. Instead of a meal, I had my husband's sides, and they brought them on a separate plate, which was very nice as usually I have to eat it off his plate and keep it away from the meat juices. The ambiance was nice, not too loud but not pin-drop silent. Good, attentive staff as well."

  • "We had dinner while visiting SF. The guys made extra efforts to get a nice plate if veggies together for our daughter. The wine - a 2009 napa was good, the surf&turf was excellent. The 49er wasn't that good , and the service was pretty mixed. For a place where you spend north of 400$ for 2.5 people there is room for improvement."

  • "I brought my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner and mentioned anything they could do to make it special would be appreciated. They didn't even mention anything or do anything at all. My steak was over cooked. The veggie of the day were snow peas, bland and boring with nothing added to make them taste good at all. The decor of the restaurant was outdated, dark and boring. Overall not an enjoyable experience and overpriced for what you get."

  • "I picked Harris looking for a SF steakhouse during a holiday. Brought a bottle of Napa wine which I had purchased, and Josh the wine director kindly waived corkage when we purchased another. We ordered 3 steaks to share for a party of 4, and the kitchen plated them together with individual potatoes and veggies. The service was thoughtful and attentive without being intrusive. And the steak... was sooo good. This was the dining highlight of my holiday."

  • "Very pleased with our visit to Harris'. Many levels above steakhouses in South Bay. Well worth the travel up. Highlights include well-executed dry-aged prime beef, and a sommelier who recommended a great bottle of Syrah fitting exactly what we were looking for. Other notes include great cocktails at the bar, live jazz 2-piece playing standards in the lounge, and a pleasant and helpful staff."

A wonderful Manhattan start off the evening and the porterhouse steak was among the best I have ever had.The service was impeccable and the waitstaff extremely efficient."

The ambiance in this room is stale, in fact, you don't even feel like you are in Harris'. Our waiter was very nice but he disappeared for long periods of time. We love Harris' but this time we can only give it a "good" rating."

  • "After a 20-year hiatus (moved to the burbs and raised kids), I recently dined at Harris', before symphony and opera. Nothing has changed; the restaurant is spiffy clean, and warm with well-spaced booths, dark paneling, and Central Valley murals. The food is excellent -- variations on "meat and potatoes," but the variations are delicious and well-prepared. The wine list is more than ample, but given the menu, I brought in aged reds from my cellar so as not to break the bank, and no one squawked about corkage limits. It's also relatively quiet -- you can have a real adult conversation."

  • "We came to celebrate Dad's 73rd birthday and were wonderfully satisfied. "Business casual" was a bit of a push to come dressed up, but entirely appropriate for the "fine dining" experience. (There was an actual business meeting at the next table!) Food items were a bit pricey, but portions were generous to match. We could have been satisfied splitting meals, but now get to enjoy the meal for days to come. We had the ribeye, the prime rib, and the special: filet with mushroom and wine sauce. Each of us thoroughly enjoyed our selections. My filet was melt-in-the mouth perfectly delicious. Had to have dessert (for the candle) although we were already stuffed: Baked Alaska! No kitchy waiter fanfare; just what the birthday boy wanted :)"
