Diner Reviews
  • "Harper's is consistently excellent. Their food is always inventive and fresh and wonderfully presented. The bartender is one of those guys who knows that drink mixing is an art and takes inordinate care with the cocktails he prepares. We've eaten there with groups, as a couple and with kids. We even had a birthday party there - they are always wonderful to us."

  • "This place was great. The menu is interesting, the food is good, service was good. We had 6 people for brunch. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food."

  • "We have been to Harper's several times and always enjoy our meals. However, the service is not as good as the food, which leaves us feeling a bit unsatisfied. The drinks at the bar are weaker than one would expect at a restaurant like this, and when ordering a second round from the table, it took a really long time for them to come. Our server didn't know much about the specials, and seemed annoyed when we asked her questions about it. Nice and comfortable space, though really loud in the room when it's crowded."

  • "Enjoyed Harpers. A little noisy and quite dark. I had a delicious salad of brussel sprout leaves. The grilled calamari (i left off the fennel) was also very well made and full of flavor."

  • "I loved this restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Great place to go out for a nice evening close to the waterfront."

  • "I've eaten here over a dozen times in the past year. It has never failed to impress. I have tried most of the menu and many specials and have never been disappointed! The Thursday, Friday and Saturday mixologist, Clark, is a real plus for an already special restaurant."

  • "I recently had dinner with my wife here. We arrived a bit early, so we had drinks at the bar. Of note, the bartender was very professional and was great at recommending drinks. The barrel aged cocktail was one of the best cocktails I have had in quite some time. We were seated at our table and a waiter came over and took our drink orders. We just wanted a bottle of sparkling water. Then another waiter came over and took our drink order. The 10 mins later, no water, but another waiter came over and asked us for our drink order. We finally get our water. We place our orders for appetizers and mains. Long story short, the food was rather bland, and the waiter forgot multiple items from our order. Overall, good drinks, bad service."

  • "Harpers has all the look of a great restaurant--the atmosphere is clean and modern and the service is great. The food, though, leaves something to be desired, especially for the price. We ordered off the restaurant week menu and the appetizers were great--cheddar and apple salad and the chicken liver. Entrees were a little rough. The short rib was really fatty and the duck had the texture of fried chicken."

  • "Harper's has a solid menu of good bites. No matter your taste, there is something for everyone. The only draw back is that the menu is somewhat limited which means it may be a one-trip restaurant. Service was excellent."

  • "Things we like: Old style taverns with great food. A carefree and easy tavern ambiance with plenty of elbow room and decidedly good food. We were there for Sunday lunch and were not sure what to expect from the modest exterior, but the interior was simple, charming and relaxing. The menu was interesting leaning to old favorites like (Crouques Madam, Vegetable Frittata, Bibb Salad and Eggs Benedict). The bread was delicious, hinting at better things to come. And everyone exclaimed on their first taste of the food. Another lesson that fresh ingredients, well prepared and properly seasoned go a long way. Something is very right with the Chef. Enjoy."

  • "We love this restaurant, and had a great meal. A few nits, there were two large parties in the back room, so we were seated near the door, which was rather drafty as folks entered and left. Service was superb. I had the short ribs; there were very tastey, but very fatty. I could not eat about 25% of same because of the fat."

  • "We were pushed to order entrées at the same time that we ordered appetizers, yet it took a very long time for any if the good to be delivered. And there were not many people in the restaurant at the time, even though it was a Saturday night. The food and drinks here tend to be excellent, but they really need to work on timing."

  • "A great local spot with a small but excellent menu and always a few specials to round out the selection choices. We had a great liver pate and a very nice cauliflower soup. The mains were excellent but not quite outstanding. Service is impeccable and the restaurant is warm and inviting. We have eaten here on our occasions and never been disappointed, definitely worth the trip."

  • "We've eaten here 3 times, the first time was Great!, the last two times were not. The bar is usually a great place to be, with interesting drinks and company. The menu is sophisticated and well thought out, but both the service and the food left something to be desired.on these last two trips. And at these prices you want to be taken better care of."

  • "We've been to Harper's three times now, and each time has been a 4 star experience. The atmosphere is warm and rustic, and the food is creative, local, and very tasty. The only consistent lapse has been with the service. Our most recent visit was a bit of a disappointment . Harper's accepted our Saturday brunch reservation for a table of 8, at 2:45pm. We were not told the kitchen closes at 3, nor were we encouraged to change our reservation. As a result, our brunch felt rushed, and as though we were an inconvenience to the staff. If the restaurant cannot kindly, helpfully, warmly, accommodate a reservation, they would do well to remind patrons of their issue, and suggest a different reservation time. Fortunately, we plan to return."

  • "Seated near the door and felt the cold air each time customers entered and exited. Waiter and servers varied in capability and customer service. Orders not delivered together, some to wrong people, some orders wrong. Pepper was not on the table and not offered for soup, salad or meals... and when requested we were made to feel as if we were asking for something above and beyond what one should expect. Braised beef ribs and both were soggy, flavorless. Polenta was undercooked. Skate was liked by two people. Arctic char was good but under seasoned. Soup was good but under seasoned. Pasta with mushrooms was good until the mushrooms were consumed... the remaining pasta was almost flavorless. Brussels spouts good and were well seasoned."

  • "My husband and I went out New Year's Nite. We could not get a reservation in the local French Restaurant, the Cookery did not answer the phone ... we assumed they were closed. Harpers was our 3rd choice. We were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed the food, service and ambience. Although when a big group came in with young kids who were very noisy, the enjoyment wasn't as much. My advise to not to sit couples that are trying to talk near a big group. We will difinity go back but will be more selective about where we sit."

  • "I have it every time I go to Harper's, even though there are other good things to eat. But for a low-carb, hi protein & veggie entree, supremely tasty and comforting, nothing beats it. Great apple fritters for deaaert, too. Y*U*M*"

  • "Harpers can break your heart. Sometimes the food is well prepared, delicious, and beautifully presented and you are so happy to be there. But the next time you dine there it as if the kitchen has been turned over to toddlers! Nothing comes out the way you ordered it and what does appear just looks like it was thrown against the plate. We were regular diners there for awhile and then stopped going about a year and a half ago after a very bad meal. Recently we tried again and had a wonderful meal and when we returned with a guest 10 days later it was a totally different restaurant - from the way we were seated, to the inarticulate relating of the specials and the haphazard way the food was plated. It will be a long time before we try again."

  • "I keep bringing friends to Harper's because of the delicious burgers and unique cocktails. No one has been disappointed yet! The burrata appetizer is another favorite. You will not be disappointed."

  • "What a pleasure!!!! They are known for their drinks. Make sure you have one. Last time I had aconcoction with ginger syrup, which was very tasty. but tonight decided onsomething light, so choose prosecco with a bit of elderflower liquor...perfect!! The Maine oysters were as fresh as if you had plucked them out of the ocean. I had the duck breast, which came with potato puree and some sort of greens, all seasoned to perfection. To finish, chocolate chip bread pudding... good, but the consistancy was a little gummy and but not my favorite..... but the dinner was so good, I didn't care. The restaurant is a bit dark, which other reviewers have commented on, but the food was so good, I'll ignore that for now. A great find!"

  • "We found out about Harper's in a Westchester Magazine article. The meal, the vibe, the service - were all worth the drive from Chappaqua, where the restaurants pretty much all suck eggs. Would even go so far as to say that their pasta is better than the much overhyped Cookery down the street. Will definitely be back!"

  • "We live in North Jersey. Our friends live in northeastern Westchester. We used to meet in Manhattan, but it's become quite a hassle. So we found Harper's, kind of halfway in-between us. Food and service is good, prices are reasonable, easy and free to park. A perfect halfway spot."

  • "Harpers is a sure thing: great food, inventive drinks;and friendly service. The crispy duck leg is my favorite (although their burger is awesome!). The chicken liver toast is pure decadence. The Barrel Aged Holiday Cheer drink special made me feel like I was sitting by a warm fire in a ski lodge. And the bread pudding...OMG! When you want quality, locally sourced ingredients cooked in a way to bring out the maximum flavor in a casual environment, this is it! Nothing frozen or phony or artificial. Good food done right!"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our first visit to Harper's. Since it was Restaurant Week they had a special menu in addition to their regular menu. My wife selected a 3 course meal (chicken) from the special menu and I ordered off the regular menu (Orata). We shared her salad (huge) and her desert (very large). Everything was very well prepared. They had a very large beer selection (on tap, bottles and cans) and a good list of wines to choose from. The only negative was some of their music selections were not very enjoyable; also music was too loud. Otherwise the evening was very enjoyable. We will be back !"

  • "We went on a Sunday night during Westchester Resturant week. Harpers has a very interesting but somewhat limited menu. For example, the fishes are Skate and Artic Char. There are specials everytime I've been there. I chose from the Price Fix menu and had grilled calmari as a starter and ziti with pork confit as a main. Both were good, though the ziti might have had more spice. My wife had a salad and crispy duck leg. Both were good. Desserts topped the list for good though. Chocolate bread pudding and fried applie fritters. Both served with appropriate ice cream and were wonderful."

  • "This is a very nice place to eat with a good vibe. Food was very good ( Short ribs, Pasta with mushrooms, Fried oysters). The burgers across the way looked very good. The beer selection, bottled and on tap, also quite nice. We were two for dinner. I look forward to returning with a bigger group. The space is attractive and low-key. Like I said, a nice vibe. The table bread was fantastic."

  • "I LOVED my experience at Harper's. It was the best food I have eaten in a very long time. The restaurant week specials were great and the server was really knowledgeable about everything. It was a very relaxed but elegant atmosphere. Perfect for catching up with friends or a date night. You can't go wrong at this restaurant. I will definitely return in the future and recommend it to my friends!"
