Harper's Restaurant and BarExcellent Sunday BrunchWe had a nice Sunday brunch at Harper's. It was a beautiful day, and seating was in their lovely garden. The wide array of brunch choices were all well prepared (delicious greens, great fresh eggs, fantastic bread!!) and nicely served. We will return to check out dinner.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMfantasticFor years we have searched for a local restaurant that wove together some of the favorite qualities of our old haunts in the city - places like Florent in the village, and Mug's Ale House in Williamsburg - where we could roll in after an afternoon hike, not necessarily dressed to the nines, and enjoy well prepared, fresh food. Harper's delivered on every score, plus it was very kid friendly, which makes it so much easier to come back.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA dependable local standardA restaurant I like to return to regularly because of the interesting menu, which seems to be include a range of new and imaginative offerings with each visit. Many hearty, filling dishes like the sauteed soft shell crab sandwich I had last time.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMOur favorite Dobbs Ferry restaurantWe had another wonderful evening at Harpers. It was hot and we wanted a light dinner with wine. The grilled calamari was simply wonderful. My husband enjoyed the chicken liver toast. We shared the dandelion Caesar salad.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMNot badNice atmosphere, table settings are somewhat haphazard, but not a bad neighborhood place. Food could have a bit more taste, some on the dishes were bland.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFor a change of scene......we drove up to Dobbs Ferry on a cold, rainy spring night and ventured into Harpers based on the menu alone. The food quality and service were surprisingly good. It was quiet, atypical for them but relaxing for us, and allowed our server to be extra attentive. We started with cornmeal fried oysters to share, fresh and light, and then the duck breast for me (moist and slightly crisp, with delicious celery root puree, cremini mushrooms and cippolini onions), and the veal agnolotti for my husband. We had a side of roasted asparagus. The dessert selections were great. The interior's a bit shabby but the wear may be less visible when the place is full. We'll definitely be back.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to Harpers severalWe have been to Harpers several times for dinner and brunch. It is a really comfortable place, laid back.
The food is very good . It is a great local restaurant.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Fantastci! The food is always delicious, simple, tasty, fresh and inventive. The bartender is an artist. We have been coming here since it opened. We have celebrated birthdays and graduations, we have brought relatives from across the country, we have brought friends from the city, we came here when our power was out during the Hurricane, we come here for a midweek date night and double dates on Saturday nights. But no matter what the reason, the time of week or the time of year, Harpers is consistently a winner. My personal favorites: crispy duck leg, the brussell spout salad (when in season), the burger, the trout, the mussels and the Mack and Jack. My son swears by the flat iron steak and chocolate torte. But really everything is a winner5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently greatFabulous cocktails and excellent food. Noisy, so it was a bit hard for our group of 7 to really talk, but by 9pm or so, it had quieted down. I've been here a few times, and I always love it. Portions seem to be larger than in the past. Try the Rockefeller cocktail (or almost any of their cocktails), the mushroom toast, the trout, potato in duck fat, flatiron steak. Nice chocolate torte for dessert. I've brought kids here and they do a good mac and cheese and other options for children.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu was eclectic SomeThe menu was eclectic Some a bit odd for a neighborhood

Never had a bad meal there.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMCongratsWhen Harper's first opened, we worried that there werent enough customers to keep this superb neighborhood restaurant going. Now, we cant get a weekend reservation. Well deserved popularity; very pleased you made it.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNice neighborhood place -Nice neighborhood place - American food and pastas. Basic but quite good. Only complaint is the service was scattershot. It was a busy Saturday night, but took time to flag down waitpersons for refills on wine, beer, etc. The place seemed understaffed. But service was friendly and obviously trying. Second time there, will return.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place is great! HaveThis place is great! Have the Flat- Iron, you owe it to yourself! Also, the Brussels sprouts are on point. Go, now!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAs usual, everything aboutAs usual, everything about Harper's Restaurant was excellent. My guests were my son and his family who live in Los Angeles, and are accustomed to dining at the top restaurants there. They were very impressed with the quality of the food, wine and everything else at Harper's.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful decor, great bar,Beautiful decor, great bar, awesome food, home-made pasta tasted great!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMMy favorite meal is the hamburger..My favorite meal is the hamburger...always cooked to perfection...delicious fries
Excellent service...very accommodating..3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent talented kitchen.Excellent talented kitchen. Noise level on a Saturday night is opressive.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe return to Harper's timeWe return to Harper's time after time for our own grown-up dinners for two, or for taking out the kids with the grandparents. For family meals, eat EARLY and ask to be seated in the room "around the corner". Otherwise you sit in the front room right near the entrance which is cramped drafty and three times noisier than everywhere else. The wait staff is patient and puts in extra effort to make all the adults (even when serving our eccentric and picky extended family). Wish though they would be a bit more kid-friendly: would it really be so difficult to chop a few tomatoes to serve my first-grader? Really? You know there are tomatoes in the kitchen:)3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went here for restaurantWe went here for restaurant week and received a great value. The food was nicely prepared and very fresh. I has grilled fish, a lovely appetizer salad with apples, and a yummy panne cotta for dessert. Service was good - attentive and pleasant. Had a blended red wine that was very good.
The restaurant is divided down the center w/ bar dining on one side and just dining on the other. I thought the atmosphere on the bar side was more pleasant, better lighting, felt more festive. Atmosphere on the other side of the wall was dull, dark and not warm enough. Overall though, a very good experience.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMReally pleased with Harper'sWe've been meaning to go to Harper's for some time because of the positive reviews. Finally, we went for brunch and had a lovely surprise. The dishes were inventive and delicious with lots of clean, fresh ingredients. Poached eggs with assorted mushrooms was so much more than just that. There's a neat list of beers, wines and interesting cocktails and (now this is pretty important for brunch) really good coffee. The service was perfect, friendly yet professional. Looking forward to returning for dinner.2/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
