  • "Not located right on the water but close and you can request up front outdoor seating. Pricing is a bit high for what you get get but overall was good. They were very friendly and I would go back."

  • "Definitely wasn't the dining experience I expected. We decided to try Harbor Grill for an early dinner on a Tuesday night. Not the easiest place to find. Other restaurants in the complex had signs visible from the street. Had to drive around the parking lots a few times to find the restaurant. Noise was unexpectedly loud, decor dated, view isn't as nice as reported and the food was bleh. My halibut was overcooked, the salmon wasn't anything special and even though it was supposed to be a fresh pot, the coffee was terrible. Crossing this off my list of restaurants to return to."

  • "When I made the reservation I notes it was my girlfriends birthday. When we arrived at the restaurant I told the server it was her birthday and they forgot. The good was good service was good. They just missed it with her birthday."

  • "Hubby and I celebrated date night here last Sunday. We rarely go here because it's pricey for our budget, but when we do, it's a real treat. The service, the food, and the atmosphere were all outstanding. We are locals and have been going here off and on for some 30 years or so. They remain consistent in their quality and service."

  • "We celebrated a special evening at The Harbor Grill. The food and service were great. Our server Kathy has been at this establishment for many years and her service and helpfulness are the BEST! We have enjoyed The Harbor Grill for years and have always been very satisfied with their food and attention to detail."

  • "The Restaurant is old and dated like the clientele. The food is below average."

  • "We have eaten here several times and it is a perfect choice for us and for anybody. Who wants the "touristy beach chain restaurant"? Not us! We want to go where the locals go - authenticity. We live about 20 minutes away so it's a perfect choice for us, and it never disappoints. Great place to bring guests; they are always impressed. Homey atmosphere, excellent menu with great fresh fish, margaritas are made with homemade mix, outdoor tables are shaded and pleasant, service great - Harbor Grill does it all."

  • "After a hiatus we returned a couple of months ago to Harbor Grill and had a delicious meal - I believe the special fish of the day. So we decided to book for Father's Day. The fish tacos were dry and slightly overcooked. One guest loved her shrimp tacos. Our old favorite dish, Sea Bass in Miso broth was a sloppy mess. Broth and mashed potatoes don't mix too well. Fish was cooked well but we remembered that it used to be served over a bed of spinach and potatoes or rice was more of a small topping. Very strange presentation this time. We loved our server and did not want to complain with company. May try them again."

  • "Our favorite local seafood restaurant! Consistently fresh, well prepared, grilled seafood and a very nice wine selection. Kudos once again!"

  • "Let's start with being served a glass of iced tea in a dirty glass. The owner/manager came to our table and explained that sometimes the rinse dispensing agent in the dishwasher breaks down and he has to restart it manually! Really! This restaurant apparently has been a community favorite for years...run by the same family. Well, it feels and looks like the current family just doesn't care about their customers anymore. The manager never really apologized, or offered to make up for the dirty glass. But we did get an unasked for piece of carrot cake at the end of our meal. Our main courses were OK. Would not recommend this place to anyone."

  • " Harbor Grill is one of my standby, go-to restaurants. Although the ambiance is nice, it certainly wouldn't be my first choice for a 'romantic' date. This is more than compensated for, by their excellent food and friendly service. There are no finer fish dishes in the area. It has gotten a bit pricier, but so have all the other seafood restaurants in Dana Pt. Marina. They are consistently GOOD !"

  • "We were seated at a table on the covered patio with a view of the harbor, which was the best part of our experience. I would have given the restaurant a higher rating, but the food was oversauced/seasoned. I got the miso Chilean sea bass, my husband got the Japanese swordfish, and my son got grilled shrimp with rice pilaf. The rice pilaf had too many onions in it, and the shrimp was tough because it was overcooked. The sea bass was too salty and overseasoned, so you couldn't appreciate the fish. The swordfish was okay, but not something to rave about."

  • "We love to go for Oyster Night (Thursday). We enjoy the oysters on the half shell, but sometimes we sneak in an order of the fried oysters ... delicious! "

  • "Disappointed to be seated at a table without a view of the harbor, although very few in/outdoor tables in the restaurant even have a view of the harbor."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner after being immediately seated on a busy Mother 's Day. Waitress was superb and knew the menu inside and out and was able to modify my scallops to my liking. Great wine list too to compliment a great menu. We will be back!"

  • "Food & service was excellent. Reservations were taken seriously. Table was available immediatelly upon arrival. Server (Hillary?) or Heather was outstanding. Also enjoyed the piano."

  • "Thursday is Oyster Night! A special addition to their already wonderful menu. They offer 8 unique delicious presentations of oysters..From the unique "Bienville" to the traditional raw shucked oysters with all the trimmings. Each only 9.99! It's like happy hour ALL NIGHT LONG. The full bar serve up fun crafted cocktails too. My wife had a SPICY Silver Tequila, Serrano Margarita! Wow! The best part is they still serve the full menu all night as well, so you can still get all of your favorite dishes. I had the Blackened Ribeye Steak. A real must try alternative to the great seafood on the menu. Great drinks, great service, consistent menu, fun specials, talented musician on the piano maintaining the atmosphere. We love this place!"

  • "We really enjoyed our Easter brunch at harbor grill. The bottomless champagne was perfect and very reasonably priced and the food was very good. I would recommend the salmon or crab omelets as both were delicious. I would also recommend the Crab Cake Benedict. The hollandaise was perfect with delicious crab cakes."

  • "So you may not find "always accountable" an enticing description but in 10 years of dining here my husband and I agree the Harbor Grill never disappoints us. Well trained staff. Excellent no frills kitchen. Great live piano. I recommend the enclosed patio ...more romantic .and Thursday night oysters are a definite find! I'm from the east coast and loving the Harbor Grill oysters. "

  • "This is the best clam chowder around! We had pretty much given up on getting a decent cup of clam chowder and then we tried Harbor Grill's version. It's perfect!"

  • "My family is on a quest for a good local fish restaurant, somewhere with simple but reliable preparations, nice but not glitzy ambience and nearby. Harbor Grill meets all of those criteria, BUT it's just too expensive. I had a very nice swordfish plate with rice and vegetables, but it was modest in size and cost $31.95! My husband had something similar, and our young daughter had the $20 fish and chips. Salads not included. $100 later we had eaten a decent but not at all special meal. Really unfortunate."

  • "My boyfriend and I tried this place on a recommendation of a neighbor. It was so good! They made my crabcake benedict with just crab, and it was amazing. My boyfriend had the Sante Fe wrap, which was also delicious. The $5.50 unlimited champagne cannot be beat! Service was excellent too. We had a great time and will be back."

  • "If you're looking for a seafood experience in Dana Point, this is the place to go. It is the best! The oysters are always good and the etouffee is wonderful! Clam chowder is the best. We haven't been disappointed with anything."

  • "I have been to the harbor grip a lot and I think they are losing their touch. Service was slow. Ran out of water and took at least 10 min for a refill. Food (halibut) was dry and flavorless. The whole meal was Very average. Disappointing because it used to be my favorite. Will be going to nicks for special I cations from now on. :(."
