Since 1984 proprietors John, Wanda and Keegan Hicks have welcomed guests and taken special pride in the sincere, friendly attitude of the staff and quality of the food.
Located in the heart of beautiful Dana Point Marina, midway between Los Angeles and San Diego, the award-winning Harbor Grill Restaurant has enjoyed a reputation for the freshness and variety of its seafood and the warmth of its atmosphere.
Serving lunch, dinner and Sunday breakfast, The Harbor Grill features Certified Angus Beef as well as a daily selection of fresh seafood cooked in delicious inventive styles, including Southwestern, Pacific Rim, Caribbean, Cajun and Mediterranean.

  • "We have eaten here several times and it is a perfect choice for us and for anybody. Who wants the "touristy beach chain restaurant"? Not us! We want to go where the locals go - authenticity. We live about 20 minutes away so it's a perfect choice for us, and it never disappoints. Great place to bring guests; they are always impressed. Homey atmosphere, excellent menu with great fresh fish, margaritas are made with homemade mix, outdoor tables are shaded and pleasant, service great - Harbor Grill does it all."

  • "After a hiatus we returned a couple of months ago to Harbor Grill and had a delicious meal - I believe the special fish of the day. So we decided to book for Father's Day. The fish tacos were dry and slightly overcooked. One guest loved her shrimp tacos. Our old favorite dish, Sea Bass in Miso broth was a sloppy mess. Broth and mashed potatoes don't mix too well. Fish was cooked well but we remembered that it used to be served over a bed of spinach and potatoes or rice was more of a small topping. Very strange presentation this time. We loved our server and did not want to complain with company. May try them again."

  • "We were seated at a table on the covered patio with a view of the harbor, which was the best part of our experience. I would have given the restaurant a higher rating, but the food was oversauced/seasoned. I got the miso Chilean sea bass, my husband got the Japanese swordfish, and my son got grilled shrimp with rice pilaf. The rice pilaf had too many onions in it, and the shrimp was tough because it was overcooked. The sea bass was too salty and overseasoned, so you couldn't appreciate the fish. The swordfish was okay, but not something to rave about."

  • " Harbor Grill is one of my standby, go-to restaurants. Although the ambiance is nice, it certainly wouldn't be my first choice for a 'romantic' date. This is more than compensated for, by their excellent food and friendly service. There are no finer fish dishes in the area. It has gotten a bit pricier, but so have all the other seafood restaurants in Dana Pt. Marina. They are consistently GOOD !"

  • "Let's start with being served a glass of iced tea in a dirty glass. The owner/manager came to our table and explained that sometimes the rinse dispensing agent in the dishwasher breaks down and he has to restart it manually! Really! This restaurant apparently has been a community favorite for years...run by the same family. Well, it feels and looks like the current family just doesn't care about their customers anymore. The manager never really apologized, or offered to make up for the dirty glass. But we did get an unasked for piece of carrot cake at the end of our meal. Our main courses were OK. Would not recommend this place to anyone."

They offer 8 unique delicious presentations of oysters..From the unique "Bienville" to the traditional raw shucked oysters with all the trimmings. Each only 9.99! It's like happy hour ALL NIGHT LONG. The full bar serve up fun crafted cocktails too. My wife had a SPICY Silver Tequila, Serrano Margarita! Wow! The best part is they still serve the full menu all night as well, so you can still get all of your favorite dishes. I had the Blackened Ribeye Steak. A real must try alternative to the great seafood on the menu. Great drinks,great service,consistent menu, fun specials, talented musician on the piano maintaining the atmosphere. We love this place!"

  • "My family is on a quest for a good local fish restaurant, somewhere with simple but reliable preparations, nice but not glitzy ambience and nearby. Harbor Grill meets all of those criteria, BUT it's just too expensive. I had a very nice swordfish plate with rice and vegetables, but it was modest in size and cost $31.95! My husband had something similar, and our young daughter had the $20 fish and chips. Salads not included. $100 later we had eaten a decent but not at all special meal. Really unfortunate."

The whole meal was Very average. Disappointing because it used to be my favorite. Will be going to nicks for special I cations from now on. :(."

  • "Went to the restaurant for the first time on a night when the place was packed, our reservation was honored at exactly the time we had made it for. Even though the place was full, (no empty tables), the service was prompt and very friendly and our waitress was attentive throughout the meal. The food came out without a long wait and it was delicious. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to adult diners but reservations are a must. Great place for a date night!"

  • "Had brunch last weekend for the first time, we usually come here for dinner. The food was great as always however there was a minor disappointment. I ordered the 'Seafood Gumbo' for the first time and was surprised to get only one (1) shrimp and one (1) mussel in my serving. The rest of the meat content was chicken and sausage. The dish was great but having the name "Seafood Gumbo" created expectations that were not met. The serving was of good size so the lack of seafood content really stood out. I will continue to be a customer and will also order the Gumbo again as it was a delicious but I will lower my expectations on the seafood content."
