Since 1984 proprietors John, Wanda and Keegan Hicks have welcomed guests and taken special pride in the sincere, friendly attitude of the staff and quality of the food.
Located in the heart of beautiful Dana Point Marina, midway between Los Angeles and San Diego, the award-winning Harbor Grill Restaurant has enjoyed a reputation for the freshness and variety of its seafood and the warmth of its atmosphere.
Serving lunch, dinner and Sunday breakfast, The Harbor Grill features Certified Angus Beef as well as a daily selection of fresh seafood cooked in delicious inventive styles, including Southwestern, Pacific Rim, Caribbean, Cajun and Mediterranean.
With its reasonably priced menu, premium cocktails, and extensive wine list, The Harbor Grill has become a favorite with locals and a popular destination for visitors who are made to feel like "regulars" on their first visit.

  • "My family is on a quest for a good local fish restaurant, somewhere with simple but reliable preparations, nice but not glitzy ambience and nearby. Harbor Grill meets all of those criteria, BUT it's just too expensive. I had a very nice swordfish plate with rice and vegetables, but it was modest in size and cost $31.95! My husband had something similar, and our young daughter had the $20 fish and chips. Salads not included. $100 later we had eaten a decent but not at all special meal. Really unfortunate."

  • "We enjoyed the ahi poke as a starter and tried the ceviche tacos (small bites) and great for sharing. Wine prices are very reasonable and we both ordered the Seared Ahi salads....so so yummy!!! We will return and often!!!"

  • "My boyfriend and I tried this place on a recommendation of a neighbor. It was so good! They made my crabcake benedict with just crab, and it was amazing. My boyfriend had the Sante Fe wrap, which was also delicious. The $5.50 unlimited champagne cannot be beat! Service was excellent too. We had a great time and will be back."

  • "I have been to the harbor grip a lot and I think they are losing their touch. Service was slow. Ran out of water and took at least 10 min for a refill. Food (halibut) was dry and flavorless. The whole meal was Very average. Disappointing because it used to be my favorite. Will be going to nicks for special I cations from now on. :(."

  • "Went to the restaurant for the first time on a night when the place was packed, our reservation was honored at exactly the time we had made it for. Even though the place was full, (no empty tables), the service was prompt and very friendly and our waitress was attentive throughout the meal. The food came out without a long wait and it was delicious. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to adult diners but reservations are a must. Great place for a date night!"

  • "Had brunch last weekend for the first time, we usually come here for dinner. The food was great as always however there was a minor disappointment. I ordered the 'Seafood Gumbo' for the first time and was surprised to get only one (1) shrimp and one (1) mussel in my serving. The rest of the meat content was chicken and sausage. The dish was great but having the name "Seafood Gumbo" created expectations that were not met. The serving was of good size so the lack of seafood content really stood out. I will continue to be a customer and will also order the Gumbo again as it was a delicious but I will lower my expectations on the seafood content."

  • "A bit pricey, and our server seemed very busy. We might try again another evening, and request a booth. This time we were seated at a table and we sensed our conversation needed to be quiet so as not to disturb others. The live piano music was the best! Salads were unusual, but tasty, entres were so-so. Cream Brûlée was delicious!"

  • "Enjoyed our meal. Mahi Mahi was very good simply grilled with lemon (sauce on side is a good idea because it was very strong). Salmon salad was very good but fish somewhat undercooked and had to be sent back. Only complaint is that we arrived early and were asked to wait 15 minutes to be seated at a table that was empty the whole time we were waiting ???"

  • "Had looked @ the menu online @ OpenTable ~ all looked good, so we and friends went for a late lunch or early dinner. However, I had my eye on their Grilled Sea Scallops @ $19.95 on OpenTable for dinner, and found them to be $29.95 so opted for Fish & Chips. Was a nice experience but not as we expected ~ we enjoy good seafood and this was maybe a 3 1/2 ~ if having the sea scallops may have been a 4 1/2 ~ their enclosed patio was okay but we prefer open-air if patio dining ~"

  • "All was okay. The service was okay, the food was okay... just okay. I had the Chliean Seabass with miso and mushroom broth. The fish was fresh and moist in the inside, but they burned the sides and edges. It was served like a soup and was swimming in the broth and had a Japanese twist with the miso noodles and water chestnuts (HATE water chestnut). If I wanted soup, I would have ordered the clam chowder. This dish destroys the wonderful taste of the Chilean Seabass which is my favorite fish. Needless to say, I did not like this dish at all. The server told me it was one of the most popular dishes so I tried it. Live and learn. I had the crab cakes and those were okay. IF I go back (A BIG IF), I will try the scallops."

  • "We chose Harbor Grill for Valentine's Day so that will give you an indication of what a super nice place this is! The weather was summery even though it was Winter (sorry East Coast), so of course we ate outside on a beautiful shaded patio that feels like a sidewalk café. Cadillac Margaritas are AMAZING because they make the juice part from scratch. Our waitress was probably the most helpful waitress we've ever seen, making great descriptions and recommendations, and she even suggested things like, "would you like garlic with the sautéed spinach?" We both chose Sea Bass after asking about halibut, and she said, "it's not in season and we only serve FRESH FISH, but you'll love the Chilean Sea Bass that just came in".SURE DID! LOVE H.G.!"

  • "We wanted to go out for good seafood at a reasonable price near our Bed and Breakfast in Dana Point. The Harbor Grill was a perfect choice. I had the seafood gumbo and my wife had the scallops. Both were prepared perfectly with ample portion size. The atmosphere was unprentious but causal nice. The live piano background music during dinner was a nice bonus. It all made for a nice evening seafood dinner."

  • "I'm a regular at Harbor Grill and for good reason. The food quality is awesome, always the freshest of fish. Better than that, though, is the personalized service you get here. The service team is always super accommodating and nothing seems to ruffle them. From the greeting as you arrive at the host/ess stand and meet Beverly, Keenan or Liz, you feel instantly welcome and at home. Watching the chefs mesquite grill seafood is also entertaining. My new favorite is blackened sea bass with a canton sauce. But then again, practically everything on the menu is awesome...and yes, you can get items besides seafood (nice steaks, burgers) if you wish. There's a real family feel to this place that makes you feel like you're dining at home."

  • "We went here on our 1st night in Dana Point and while it was ok nothing special. I had the blackened rib eye which was a mistake. My fault to order a ribeye with Cajun spices. I think they over did the spice and appeared the cook cut into the steak to check to see if it was done. It was over cooked. The waitress was very nice and the service was pretty good."
