  • "Usually go for hapa hour so the last time I came here and sat on the patio, I noticed the tables and surroundings were not wiped down properly and cleaned but figured they're busy. Most recent visit was dinner time, sat on patio again and unfortunately, the tables were dusty and seems like the food, service along with decor and cleanliness could use an update. Disappointed, but that's because I hold hapa to a higher standard based on visits in past years."

  • "Two out of three of our orders were delivered to the wrong table so we ended up waiting quite a while for our meal but Betty that manager was very apologetic and kindly took care of our lunch bill which was very much appreciated and beyond what we expected. The food was great but special thanks go to Betty!"

  • "Wasn't really impressed. The taste of some dishes was good but not great, and only 2-3 bites worth for each $10+ dish, except for the rice bowl. Couldn't taste much seafood in the seafood chowder except for a few tiny fragments of fish, was mostly stringy vegetables. Ate $60 worth of food between 2 people not including drinks and still didn't come close to fulfillment. When we were going to order more food our waitress was no where to be found for 10 min so we just gave up and paid and left. Went somewhere else for more food afterwards. Noise level very high."

  • "I went with friend to have late lunch here at Hapa Izakaya. I ordered Halibut and Bintaro( a cold side dish) I found it to both be amazingly yummy- esp for a seafood lover like myself, they were very delicious. The chicken karagee that my friend had was the best out of all of our food so I would suggest definitely have that when you visit. Other than that, some meals that I think needs more improvement is the Ebi Mayo and the Chicken Salad."

  • "The young gentleman who served us was excellent, attentive and had a great attitude. The good was average and overpriced. Ordered one peice of ikura which hardly had any salmon roe on it and was charged 4 dollars. Would recommend the agadshi tofu. Doubt if I would go back."

  • "I've never been inspired to write a review on Open Table, until now. Server forgot to order the appetizer. Server didn't come back to ask if we wanted anything further to drink until we finished dinner. Server came over with the credit card payment machine even before we had finished dinner. I told the server that we weren't done yet so she went away. When we were done, she never returned to take the payment and I had to speak with the hostess to take the payment. All this when there was a total of two other tables in the restaurant, so not like the server was busy. Food was such a disappointment that we had to stop at another restaurant on the way home."

  • "First time dine out there with my gf. Hard to find the restaurant, sign only visible on certain way from the road, parking is ridiculously expensive. Food is very nice, and I like the fusion of western cross Japanese food. They did have a few traditional Japanese dish, but mainly made for westerners. Service is great. Waitress there all look alike, can't differ one from another. The only way to tell my waitress is by the tattoo at her back !! Lol. Only drawback is, waiting time for the food is very long, ridiculously long and it's very very noisy !! Other than that, everything is great. Would go again."

  • "...and it wasn't worth the wait. My guest and I ordered salads. We waited about 40 minutes for one of them to arrive, and another 10 for the other. When asked at the end how our lunch was, I mentioned the long wait and asked if there had been a mistake and was told no - there is only 1 salad chef. No apology or offer to do something for the long wait. The tables on either side (who came after us) also had salads which arrived long before ours. It was a very disappointing experience. "

  • "A couple disappointments include the lack of actual wasabi (Hapa Kits had actual wasabi that was ground from a plant, while Hapa CH used a paste) and the green tea. I was charged for a cup of green tea at what I consider a Japanese restaurant - The tea at Hapa Kits was not only free but also fried before being brewed."

  • "I find the staff to be very friendly and courteous. Also there is a commeraderie amongst the staff in that they help each other out in delivering food and cleaning tables. Tthis is good for me as client to witness in that my food wil be delivered hot. Only criticism I have is the wine list is weak, should have Kim Crawford or Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc."

  • "Went with a friend to Hapa Izakaya Coal Harbour for the first time and wanted to try out the hapa hour menu. We shared the beef tataki which was really good and not overly sour like they sometimes can be. Then we also had Isa - the grilled squid which was amazing, we ate it without the mayo dip and it tasted great by itself. Lastly we split the spicy tuna roll which was decent but I would not get it again, the texture of the tuna seemed too soft and mushy for my preference. Overall had a good time, hope to come back with more friends for drinks and food next time!"

  • "Food was great. We also had a wonderful sake at the end - I love that it's served in chilled bamboo glasses! Our server was good until the end of the meal - at which point we waited for our bill for over 20 minutes. We saw the servers chatting though, it looked as though they were sorting out some problem, so we were understanding - but seeing as it was a weekday lunch and we all had to get back to work, it was an unwelcome delay. Overall though, I had a good experience and would come back."

  • "I go to this location a fair bit before. Knew the owner who is great, but with new locations comes new staff. I could tell she was young, but some of her comments, despite maybe attempting to lighten the mood during the experience, was quite insulting especially while we were on a lunch meeting. I'd say given this location is more catered to the corporate crowd, some of those "light hearted" comments should not have been said. And because I frequent the location before (although not as often anymore) I did not take too much offense, however still shocking what she said."

  • "Hapa Izakaya has been recommended to my by friends for years. Finally, we had a chance to try their 'new' location in Coal Harbour. We went during 'Hapa Hour' - half-price appetizers. The food was amazing! Great taste, better presentation, attentive service. Nice deals on drinks too, although we splurged on their top-end warm saki - just perfect for washing down all the yummy food. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Food was great, ambience was great, service was horrendous. Waitress basically threw down our meals and our bills, didn't ask if we would like refills once, didn't ask how our meal was, didn't ask if we wanted our bills, didn't ask if we were done with our meals before removing our food from under our noses. I have never had worse service in my entire life - extremely disapointed. The waitress didn't say a single word to us the entire time except what we did we want to order, and what did we want to drink. It made the experience awkward and miserable. This is the last time I am bringing my friends to Hapa Coal Harbour."

  • "Excellent restaurant with great food! We literally just "opentabled" the closest sushi restaurant to our hotel and we lucked out!!! The Hapa roll and Spicy Chopped Scallop roll are insanely delicious. Staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. We will be back everytime we are in Vancouver."

  • "Hapa Robson is better but not a whole lot better. Other Izakayas in town have way better food. Guu is better by far. It's an average restaurant that is not worth trying. The service was very good though although it had a Cactus Club or Joey kind of feel."

  • "With all the emails and phone calls about the reservation I was reminded (3 or 4 times!) that we would only have a limited time to eat and on arrival, the very first thing that was clearly outlined was that the restaurant would "need their table back" by a certain time. Not welcoming at all. On two previous occasions trying to go to this Coal Harbour location, we were somewhat rudely turned away by the hostess person because we did not have a reservation (even though there looked to be an awful lot of empty tables). The waiter at Coal Harbour was fine - not impressed at all with the people at the door."

They bring our salad to the wrong table, ten minutes later, take it away from the wrong table, pretend to leave only to come back and bring it to our table, after it sat on someone else's table for close to ten minutes. They forgot one of our orders. We waited forever to get the bill. The server never checked on us, even though the restaurant was practically empty. We will never go back!!!"
