Diner Reviews
  • "Went here for Easter dinner. Had the NY Strip and my mother had the swordfish. Food, service and interior atmosphere were great. Prices were a little expensive, but the quality was there. However, next door to the restaurant is a soup kitchen that had a line of homeless people out the door. As we were walking back to the car we had 2 people ask us for money. "

  • "While a little pricey, the Hanover Street Chophouse is without a doubt the Best restaruant I have eaten at in the Manchester area. Food is always high quality and the service is always exceptional. When going out for any special occasion, this is the first place we think of and usually end up at."

  • "We enjoyed our "Easter" dinner at the Hanover Street Chop House. It was our first holiday ever, "dining out"…and the Chop House made it a very nice holiday with great ambiance, excellent food and exceptional service."

  • "The food was very good but the excellent service from Brendan, our waiter, made this very good meal exceptional. Polite, super efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly, Brendan was there when we needed him and left us to enjoy our meal when we didn't. He had an uncanny knack for anticipating our needs and the service he provided elevated this already-great meal into something special."

  • "Lovely lunch with my sisters for my oldest sisters birthday. When the waiter saw a birthday package he inquired whose birthday it was, and wished her a Happy Birthday...When it came to dessert we ordered a single dessert for the 4 of us to share as we were so full. The kitchen wrote Happy Birthday on the plate in chocolate sauce with our Creme Brulee'...My sister was thrilled! It was DELICIOUS by the way! All of our meals were fabulous and we look forward to going back again! "

  • "It was a lovely evening with delicious food and tasty drinks from their bar. I ordered a surf and turf(steak, lobster tail). Most people who eat here I'm sure eat medium steak, I'm a well done girl. It seems to be wasteful I know but I'm very picky with no pink. My meat was served medium but I didn't bother complaining or sending it back, the salad, tail and drinks were good enough. My husband ate the steak so it didn't go to waste. We were happy regardless and will definitely go back."

  • "One of my favorite places. The ambience is always great. We did get seated next to a very loud table with language I didn't think was appropriate. But only time that happened. Service is always wonderful. Our server usually recognizes us which is always fantastic. We have never been disappointed with our food always amazing. If you are looking for a great casual dining experience you must try this place if you haven't already."

  • "We made a 6:00 PM reservation and the restaurant was lightly filled. We were seated quickly and introduced to our server. We had drinks, appetizers (mushroom caps, first night on the menu, and Maryland Oysters - both recommended) and an Oregon Pinot. My only complaint would be that while it is a good wine list, it tends to be on the pricey side. The service was excellent, attentive but not aggressive. I first thought it was expensive ($330 for 3) then I realized that it included three call liquor cocktails, a ($48) bottle of wine, two appetizers, three entrees, two deserts, a glass of ice-wine, and a 20% tip. From that perspective, not bad!"

  • "Food was fantastic! Service was good. We had a great table. Everyone knew it was our first time there, and that it was my husband's birthday...definitely pay attention to detail to make the night special. We were given a gift certificate for our wedding, three weeks ago, and we were glad we were finally able to try this place! Good special occasion spot!!! Food was top notch!"

  • "We booked Hanover Street Chophouse for a birthday dinner. Service was attentive but not overwhelming. Unlike other high-end steakhouses, not everything is ala carte and each steak came with potato and veg of the day. We also tried the candied bacon (fun and delicious), the avocado fries and the truffled tater tots. Although we were too full for dessert, we shared a couple of the signature "Howie" desserts -a layered chocolate cake on caramel sauce with caramel ice cream - so good and they piped happy birthday in chocolate! nice meal with great service. Very pricey so only for special occasions unless you go for the much more cost effective and just as wonderful bar menu - but go early because a seat is a precious commodity."

  • "We had an absolutely wonderful dinner from start to finish for my husband's birthday. We have already booked our reservation for my birthday and requested our same server, Brendon ( he was great!). It is on the pricey side but well worth it for a special occasion,"

  • "I took my adult son here on a Thursday night for a congratulatory dinner. I had a cosmopolitan martini which was the best I've ever had! For appetizers, my son had a shrimp coctail, which was a bit pricey at $16.00 but it came with 4 enormous shrimp. I had the lobster bisque which was amazingly delicious. Our steaks were done to perfection and melted in your mouth. He had cheese cake for dessert and I had the crem brule, both were fantastic! My only complaint was that the root vegetables which accompanied our steaks were a bit dry and bland. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgable, but did not hover, which we liked. The prices are a bit high for our budget but we will definitely return for those special occasions."

  • "I've dined here previously and then, as now, I found the food and the service first rate. The staff especially made my party feel like we were the most important people in the restaurant and clearly went of their way to make sure we were satisfied with every aspect of our dining experience. Whenever I have an special occasion the Hanover Street Chophouse is the first place I think of as my preferred destination."

  • "The ambience was wonderful with very comfortable seating and the service very good. Salads were fresh and their bread selection was delicious. My main meal couldn’t of been any better! My very husband was disappointed with his as we found his prime rib to be very fatty. The waitress was very good but never asked how our meals were but to me it was quite obvious by what he left on his plate, that there was a problem. Other than that she was very good and timely! I would like to give this restaurant a 2nd chance as this is a nice restaurant with a great ambience making for a very comfortable evening."

  • "One of the most memorable meals we've ever had in the US thanks to a very experienced staff - from the servers to the kitchen. Meats and fish cooked correctly (many expensive places don't get it right); reasonable wine list; relaxing atmosphere. The food wasn't Michelin 3-star, but didn't pretend to be (and wasn't priced to be). It was very good, occasionally excellent. But what made the meal perfect was our server with many years of experience. Aware of every detail of what was going on at our table, attentive when appropriate, never smothering, and especially not in the least condescending the way many upscale places can be. A real pleasure. Will definitely be back for special occasions (including those evenings when you just deserve it)."

  • "The food that each of us had was fantastic and the service we received from Jimmy our waiter was top notch. The prices are a little on the high side but to be expected for the quality of food you receive."

  • "My husband and I just felt like a special night out so we headed to the chop house. From beginning to end it was wonderful. Our server was attentive but not bothersome. The wine, oysters and caeser salad were terrific. My husband had the Delmonico steak and I had the rack of lamb...both perfect."

  • "Three of us went to dinner on Saturday March 22. We were there in the 6PM time frame. We found it noisy and had to speak louder in order to hear each other at the table. Having friends that have hearing aids I am sure they would have been uncomfortable with the level of noise in such a fine restaurant. Also, in checking my bill I found we had be charged for coffee and a dessert that we did not order. The waiter took care of correcting it but I was a little surprised at the error. The only reason I checked is that it has been happening more and more when I go out to eat. I was pleased to see men with shirts, sweaters, sport jackets and suits on. A nice change. (no hats on backwards!!)"

  • "Heard about the rave reviews of Hanover Street Chophouse on the radio and decided to check it out for a special occasion. Iv'e been to many restaurants in the US and this now one of my top picks!! The ambiance, the meal and the service was outstanding!!!!"

  • "We got there just prior to our reservation, and were seated right away. It was my daughter's birthday, and there were four of us. We waited 35 minutes with our menus and water only, then got drinks, and at 45 minutes, still had not ordered. The manager looked at us from the kitchen what seemed like a hundred times, but didn't approach us yet went around to several tables, at least one other a few times. He finally came over when the food was delivered to us, to say "is the food great?" Then he ran for the hills. For a bill of $327 plus $50 tip I would expect better treatment. Never a word from the weasel manager. Not even a free dessert for a birthday! This restaurant can't compare to the Capital Grille at all, we aren't likely to return."

  • "My husband and I recently celebrated a special birthday at the Hanover Street Chophouse and had a truly memorable evening. Our meals were excellent...lentil soup and wedge salad to start, swordfish special for my husband, salmon for me with delicious melt in your mouth roasted potatoes and squash and brussel sprouts on on the plate. Special, yet quiet attention was given to my husband with a Happy Birthday welcome and a candle in a delicious chocolate mousse cake after dinner. Service was efficient and attentive. All around great experience with outstanding flavors and food. Highly recommend!"

  • "Steakhouse. A good one. Everything was good and the service was impeccable. Trust your server for recommendations, but the seafood tower was also notable. And they have a pastry chef actually in house, so save room for dessert. Key Lime Pie was as good as my mom's when she'd pick the key limes out of our backyard in Miami!"

  • "We had been to the Chophouse before, and thought it a great place to bring long time friends. It did not disappoint. Three of our party had steaks which were terrific; I am not a big meat eater, but had seafood which was perfect! Something for everyone in your party."

  • "Food was good...will have to give it another try (asparagus wasn't very tasty at all). Our booth in the bar area and was too noisy. It was our first visit and would definitely ask for a table 'in the back' next time. Service was spectacular...thank you Alan!!"

  • "I took my husband here for his birthday dinner and could not have been more pleased. Our evening began with complimentary valet parking which was very welcome given the "down-town" location. We ordered the scallops in bacon for an appetizer - the portion was small (only 4) but they were nice sized and absolutely delicious! Next came the best clam chowder either of us has ever tasted, YUM!!! For our main course my husband ordered the scallop dinner while I opted for an 8oz filet with sherried mushrooms - entree portions were anything but small and well worth the price tag. We finished off with a half serving of carrot cake and were pleasantly surprised to have it delivered complete with birthday wishes and a candle."

  • "Sunday dinner. The ambiance was warm and inviting & service was impeccable. We chose the 3 course dinner special, which was an incredible value. Caesar salad, 8 oz. filet mignon & grilled hanger steak were prepared to perfection, as were the sides which complimented them beautifully. The chocolate roulade was a great choice for dessert... light, delicious & not too filling. We chose the bacon wrapped scallops with roasted pineapple & bacon jam as an appetizer & will most certainly have it again. The blueberry bread & parker house rolls were a nice change from the usual bread offerings. It's an easy 45 mile drive that we're looking forward to making again very soon. We'll probably do a repeat of the same meal, it was just that good."

  • "Our server was excellent and the ambience was very nice. The bacon/clam chowder had multiple "crunchies" in it that you thought would chip a tooth. However, our main course was well late in arriving to the table and when it did arrive, we were underwhelmed. One steak was well overcooked, charred and crunchy, and chewy in the middle. The other was under cooked. Both side dishes looked and felt like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a very long time waiting for the steaks. For the price of the entire meal I and the value we received, we will choose to spend money elsewhere."

  • "The Chop House is an excellent choice when you don't want to take the drive to Boston. As a frequent business traveller, I get to enjoy all the great steakhouses. The Chop House easily compares and surpasses on a value basis to Abe's, Del Friscos, Capital Grille and The Palms. Other venues in NH attempt to replicate this five star dining experience like O's (horrible fraud of a restaurant) but don't even come close. The Chop House has a great menu, good wine list, phenomenal service and great tasting food. The owner was very visible and checked on us to make sure my party was having an exceptional experience. My only suggestion is to add a veal chop to the menu."

  • "Best meal I've had in the past 2 years, and I'm a foodie. We had reservation set for valentine, couldn't make it due to weather. Postponed our date by almost 2 weeks, worth the wait. Our waiter wasn't up to par, but we'll be back. Hopefully we'll someone else."

  • "Very warm ambience accentuated by attentive (not intrusive) wait staff/management. As our daughter and son-in-law were not able to join us, they had a well noted bottle of wine waiting for dinner. The Chophouse accompanied it with a lovely signed birthday card and a gracious delivery to our table. Such was the start of a fine dining experience. While every menu offering looked sumptuous, my husband and I opted for a couple of our favorites - shrimp cocktails, 8 oz. naked filet and lamb shank - along with our salads and dessert. Nothing less than excellent. Specialty martinis are my favorite and the lemon drop was perfect. We will be back when we are, again, missing the elegant city-fied decor and upscale white jacket service."

  • "My wife and I made plans to dine a week in advance and were able to secure a Saturday night 8:00 p.m. reservation. Tough parking in and around the restaurant but we were able to find a spot. Our table was ready a little after 8:00 p.m. and were seated in nice section of the restaurant by the kitchen. Our waiter was slow but understandable due to the dinner rush-politeness and welcoming attitude were not on his menu. I asked if we could lower the lighting since it was too bright for dinning. He tried but could couldn't. The lobster apt was sold out-too early for that. Disappointed, but ordered the oysters. Rib-eye more fat than should have been. Filet mignon and dessert-carrot cake-were great. Overall experience: B."
