Hannas Prime SteakOur newest special occasion placeHannas is always excellent and is fast becomming our go to place for special occasions. We enjoyed our 25th anniversary dinner there and this week celebrated another birthday with the very friendly Hannas staff. This place keeps Santa Margarita on the culinary map of Orange County - and probably all of So Cal. Perfect filets, well-executed side dishes, creative appetizers (try the baked brie) and great desserts served by the friendliest and most professional staff of any higher end restaurant we've visited. Creative cocktail selections and an ample wine list top off the experience. We started, as we always do, with the Edamame. I had a NY Strip that was on special, cooked perfectly and very tender. Although the name is Hannas Prime Steak, don't be afraid to venture out. In fact, I rarely have steak here. The salmon and the short ribs are both very good.
The drinks are excellent. The beer selection is above average, but not to the level that many restaurants are aspiring to these days. They usually have something from Rancho Santa Margarita's own Cismontane Brewing, as well as other local brews such as Left Coast from San Clemente. We tried one of the signature cocktails and enjoyed a nice glass of wine The wine and drink listed on the IPad was impressive... we had a salad and filet ... timing seemed a little rushed for salad and then entre but I just think it was late and as we left we realized almost all the groups had gone and we were one the few remaining tables. The staff were personable and did a nice job... The hostess were very professional and seated us immediately. We were very surprised to be seated in the back room with the wine storage as we did not know about it. I had the lobster bisque and skirt steak and my wife had the NY strip special. They gave me both the bleu cheese sauce and the chimichi (sp?) and both were very flavorful. Our server was very knowledgeable and had excellent recommendations for wine and meals. The food and menu is excellent. There is no corkage fee, so we always bring a bottle of wine. Dave, the owner, always comes by to make sure everything is okay.

I have dined there twice within the last month and found the food and service to be outstanding. I had salmon on the first trip which was expertly prepared, however my dish on the second trip, a halibut prepared with broccoli and potatoes and baked in a paper bag was outstanding. Their wine list is also excellent. The owner came by the table and chatted, and all service personnel were exceptionally friendly.
