Hank's Seafood RestaurantMotther's Day dinner afterMotther's Day dinner after a friend's daughter's wedding weekend. Good Negroni and Hendricks mojito. Oysters Casino were tasty. Grouper was great. Peanut butter/chocolate ganache pie off the charts.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNoise was too much. This is my second visit to Hanks. I took my oldest granddaughter last year and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I took her two younger teenage sisters this year and was a little disappointed. I was disappointed in the she crab soup. It was very salty this time. I had it at a different restaurant two nights before and the creamy texture with less salt was perfect. My entrée was very good but I ordered my scallops without the sauce base. My granddaughter ordered hers and did not realized there would be sauce and it was very tart, which was a distraction to the scallops. She was able to remove most of the sauce and really enjoyed the remaining portion of scallops. The oyster soup was delicious.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentThe seafood tower was noteworthy. Amazing! This is the best seafood in Charleston!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMCharleston's Upscale Seafood PlaceExcellent food in a spacious, well decorated room. Experienced servers, similar to those in well established big-city steak houses and landmark restaurants.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFine Seafood in a Classic SettingFirst rate seafood, great atmosphere, moderate pricing. As locals, it is our go-to spot for fine seafood.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThanks to Hank'sWednesday night dinner with my wife and friends. Her Lobster was perfectly broiled and I could smell the saffron in my boulliabase when it arrived at the table. Server had a couple small hiccups but was very good overall. Worthy of anyone's Charleston dining list.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat DinerIt was a perfect Diner with fresh seafood and great wines. Incredible for an American restaurant.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't say enough about it.Can't say enough about it. Mussels were amazing, as was the grouper, which was recommended by our hotel concierge and our waitress. Service was excellent--very attentive.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic ExperienceHad planned to go to Hyman's, but got a recommendation from a local to go to Hank's. Don't know what we missed at Hyman's, but loved Hank's. We were seated immediately upon arrival and quickly introduced to our server, Kellen. What a gem. Kellen is a master at her craft. She was helpful, attentive, a delight to talk to, and her wine recommendation was spot on. I had the Seafood a la Wando, and my wife had the Roast Grouper. Both were wonderful. We sounded like a couple of idiots, oohing and ahhing at every bite. Overall a fantastic experience. We will definitely return to Hank's on our next visit to Charleston.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat RestaurantHank's is a great seafood restuarant. The service was great, and the food was exceptional. The seafood was fresh and tasty. Will definitelt be dining there again.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous FoodMy family of 5 had dinner here at Hanks and the food was so good.I would recommend this restaurant for any special occasion.
The service was outstanding!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is my third time to eatThis is my third time to eat at Hanks. Coming to Charleston, one of my favorite cities, Hanks is one of the restaurants that I always visit, great seafood .5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeI'm local and this is one of the best downtown or anywhere!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining - and so friendly!Fab seafood - and the filet mignon as good as any great steakhouse. Wait staff were super friendly and accommodating. Our goal is to come back to Charleston as often as it takes to try all the great restaurants, and we'll def make a return visit to Hank's.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Restaurant in CharlestonWe were very impressed with Hank's Restaurant so much so that we returned for a second night. We also wished we found this gem earlier in our stay in Charleston. The Seafood was superb and the service was impeccable. Although both nights that we dined were very busy, Randy our waiter worked very hard to ensure that all his tables were treated as if they were the only ones that he was responsible for. This is one of the best restaurants in Charleston and a truly enjoyable experience.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Dining ExperienceA warm ambience with excellent food and outstanding service with a neighborhood atmosphere.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMjust an outstanding experienceFirst time customer. Planning a move to the area in another 2 years and are searching for "keepers" and this is one! Service was outstanding, as was the food and overall appearance. I had a seafood combo and my wife scallops, both worth ordering again. And let's not forget wine and desert - many to choose from, but with help from our server a decision was made, and a good choice it was. White dry wine with the main course and excellent keylime pie to help finish off the evening. While parking in Charleston is a challenge, 50' away is a parking garage. The only thing that would have made it a perfect evening is if the restaurant would have paid for parking! Finally, don't go if you are expecting a good dinner for 2 under $100.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Seafood meal you will EVER EatThe quality of seafood was outstanding! My table chose a Seafood tower (well worth the price for the amount included that fed 4 with huge appetites!), She-crab soup (amazing balance of creamy deliciousness, melt-in-your-mouth crab, and a hint of sherry), a seasonal salad with smoked goat cheese, Seafood A la Wando (Excellent mix of fish, scallops, crab meat and shrimp with a creamy sauce and a huge fried grits cake) and a broiled seafood platter with out of this world shrimp scampi! Skip the tourist trap places that are located just across the street and head here for the best seafood meal you wil ever eat. The service was also impeccable. I highly recommend getting a reservation because this place fills up fast and for a good reason!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMI found it odd that we arriveI found it odd that we arrive 10 minutes before our reservation and they said our table would be available closer to our exact reservation time and directed us to the bar. I noted that there was a table open. After 15 minutes they said us in that table.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMStill great food!Thos was our third outing to Hanks and ithe food was excellent as always.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great mealI have been to Hanks several times. Wonderful presentation, great staff, busy but efficient bar staff. I would definitely go here again in a heartbeat!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOver the top friendly! We met family here after flying in via Chicago. We got in late and joined our party just after they had paid. Hooper was a gracious server and set us up with food and beverage and with absolutely no hassle. Everyone was so pleasant and personable on staff we ended up eating there 2 more times during our stay. Fish was fresh and well prepared. If you are not too hungry order the fish of your choice Ala-carte and have the champagne citrus ber blanc sauce. Great ingredients well prepared - does not get better than this!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThird time here in last 2Third time here in last 2 years. One of Charleston's best in my opinion. Looking forward to return trip.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMHave been wanting to try thisHave been wanting to try this Charleton Gem for a while. We've been multiple times, would highly recommend it and we will be back4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining experience.Great dining experience. I has the grilled swordfish and it was very delicious! Soft shell crabs were the special so we ordered them too, although we didn't expect them to be so "fried" and were a little disappointed. We didn't order them, but the table next to us got shrimp cocktail and they looked enormously delicious as well. Overall, great dining experience.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI was here ~6 years ago andI was here ~6 years ago and Hank's still has the same flair. Professional staff only surpassed by the quality of the food. The Seafood A La Wando and the scallops are a must! If in Charleston, you should try Hanks.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have never been disappointedWe have never been disappointed at Hanks. Good food, quick and enthusiastic service (enjoyed Chad's sense of humor and ability to ride with the flow). Best soft-shelled crabs I've had in Charleston over the 30+ years we have lived here.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent bouilliabaiseexcellent bouilliabaise and lump crab meat appetizer.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Food, Service and CharmThe food was outstanding, and our server, Jana, couldn't have been nicer...or more helpful. The crab cakes were the best I've ever had, and she-crab soup was a rich and delicious delight! It's so rich and creamy, that I had only a taste. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to eat anything else!!!
There was a lot of old world, southern charm at Hank's, and I'll definitely return!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMMy favorite place to eat inMy favorite place to eat in Charleston! The seafood tower appetizer is amazing. All the food is freshly prepared and the service is top notch.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMA Charleston FavoriteCharleston abounds with wonderful restaurants, but Hank's remains one of our favorites. It was busy with a energetic patter, so plan on reservations. A unique feature was a huge communal table near the bar which seemed to be filled with locals. We both had she crab soup which was velvety with large pieces of crab. The roasted salmon with asparagus was perfectly prepared. The No 4 seafood platter my husband ordered was filled with delicious shrimp and oysters. The crab cake was more filler than crab, but still tasty. Our waiter was attentive, but not hovering. Another plus for Hank's is the city parking lot only a short distance way.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFinally !After 3 failed attempts (none due to Hank's) I finally was able to dine at Hank's and the food was worth the wait. The oysters were excellent as was the she-crab soup, my entree was the old standby grouper and shrimp but was outstanding ! Wait staff was very attentive even with me dinning alone,(the only down side of dinner was my wife wasn't with me due a family emergency)other than my wife's absence my old regret is not having any room for dessert .4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were seated right awayWe were seated right away with the place being full. Very prompt and attentive service. My friend ordered the Tuna and I ordered the Grouper. The favors involved with the tuna were amazing: kalamata olives , goat cheese, with the tuna. It all worked beatufully, the tun was seared nicely too.
My grouper was flavored more mildly the sauce was excellent. Very good key lime pie. All in all a very pleasant experience. I would return here.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMoutstanding!Outstanding meal and service! We had our three kids in tow and our server was so kind and welcoming to our family. A little spendy but totally worth it!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMHank's was a welcome treatHank's was a welcome treat after an afternoon of touring Charleston Historical Society's Festival of Gardens. Shared bottle of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir with meal and Chocolate Croissant Bread Pudding...Oh My Word!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful seafood dining.Excellent dining experience. We both had southern fried seafood which was very light and not greasy at all. I had oysters, shrimp and crab cake and my husband had oysters, shrimp and flounder. They were accompanied by thin sliced sweet potatoes, hush puppies and cole slaw. The fish was fresh, delicious and cooked perfectly. Very hefty portions which I could not finish. We enjoyed a wonderful bottle of Austrian zweitlein wine which is rare to find. We both live Austrian wine and this was a rare treat! The wine list was extensive and fairly priced. For dessert we shared an excellent key lime pie which was authentic. We would definitely return to dine here again. Our waiter was great, attentive but not overly so.
