Our waiter was cold and had zero personality. The restaurant was very loud, so don't expect romanticism. Limited and expensive parking nearby. "

  • "Hanks offers a large choice in its menu. I recommend the shrimp and grits and the seafood ala wando and the grouper. All choices were excellent, as were the mixed drinks that were ordered. Service was efficient and staff was very helpful. The restaurant was easy to find and there is a parking garage next door."

  • "My boyfriend and I traveled to Charleston from Charlotte for a mini vacation. We seen that Hall's was on the top 100 list on Open Table and I knew we had to go there during our stay. It turns out that Hall's was the best and most amazing restaurant we have been to so far! The service was great and the food was top-notch! What stood out to us most of all was the owner being present the entire time; greeting every guest, holding the front door open and holding umbrellas for people exiting the restaurant. He even took pictures of us when he seen that my boyfriend and I were posting selfies! The steak presentation was something that is unseen at other steak restaurants. We will definitely go back on our next trip to Charleston this Summer!"

  • "4/19 expected exceptional service but left unhappy.Made res 2 MONTHS b4.Began with RUDE hostess who sat us at the table directly in front. politely ask 2 wait for next table in the back b/c we didn't want to be hit with the cold breeze from the front door. Her RUDE response "our next reservation is not until 10pm." We had 7:30p res. decided to make the best of it.WELL not 5 MIN later, she sat another couple at the back. very UNACCOMMODATING and RUDE at an a fine restaurant.Her behavior ruined our night and experience. A diff hostess sat a group at the table next to us.Also UNPLEASED by table in front of door but offered to let them wait for another table when they asked for a different table.The RUDE hostess needs class on proper etiquette"

  • "I have been to Hanks several times before and for special Occasions such as our Anniversary. Upon arriving I will admit it was busy for only being open for 30 minutes but, after a while I had to go and ask the Hostess if any one was going to wait on us. In addition it was so cold that my wife had to wear her jacket during the whole dinner. The appetizers were fine but the Grouper was bland. We also had a problem a month before with the Special House Salad. I hope this will not be a continuing trend. As a last note I do not believe Hanks should tolerate Screaming children when some people would like to Celebrate an Event. "

  • "We had several rounds of drinks,appetizers,entrees (Grouper, Scallops, the special and Shrimp/Grits-all were amazing!) & dessert.They still turned our table within an hour and a half. Do not go here if you want to enjoy and relax your $200 meal, before we were done with our food we were being asked about dessert, before our dessert came out we were being given our check.They cleared our table completely while we were sitting there-you'll hear the phrase "pardon my reach" throughout the whole meal because they are clearing and turning it so quickly. It's one large room with tables fairly close together so noisy- it wasn't a deal breaker for us but the rushed feeling would make us pick another restaurant in a town full of 5star restaurants."

It's a busy place, but we didn't feel rushed. The atmosphere has a retro fish camp meets upscale trendy vibe--a little loud but fun."

  • "Very sad, viewing Hank"s on line I thought it would be a great place for our 26th anniversary. With your 4 star rating it looked to be upscale. Reserved a booth it was ready minutes after reservation. Our server was very efficient but his white over jacket was a wrinkled mess. She crab soup was very good. My wife's scallops were under cooked some what. 2 out of 4 scallops were rubbery. My shrimp and grits were over powered by tomatoes. When I made our online reservation and mention our anniversary. I would have expected at least a :Congratulations or acknowledgment. My wife has always liked Peninsula Grille, looks like we will be going back there. "

  • "My husband and I ordered the Chef's Specialties..he had the grouper and I had the pan seared scallops and they were outstanding. Our dinner companions had fried platters and said that they were good, not stunning. So, stick to the special dishes and you truly can't go wrong. The service was excellent and we will return on our next trip to Charleston!"

  • "My husband and I chose this restaurant while on vacation primarily because of its proximity to the Charleston carriage rides but were pleasantly suprised when it turned out to be so good. The restaurant has both tables and booths and a classy decor. We found both the bartender and our waiter to be very friendly and helpful. We both ordered seafood, a shrimp dish and one with sea scallops and both meals were very good. If you want to go to this restaurant be sure to book early. We made reservations on Monday morning for Monday evening and could only get a 5:30 or 8:30 seating."

  • "After a number of days of enjoying the sensational seafood restaurants in Charleston, we had trouble finding another seafood restaurant in Charleston at the reservation time we needed. We settled on Hank's. Little did we know how much we were settling. The restaurant is a large warehouse type structure. The cerviche was good. But the main and expensive dish we ordered, the raw shellfish tower was so bad we had them take it away. The mussels and oysters were awful. I bit into a large shrimp and the center was mushy. The oysters were flavorless. Don't ruin an evening in Charleston, Charleston is full of great restaurants. We saved the evening by going back to the Cyprus later in the evening to get the bad taste of Hank's out our mouth."

  • "We chose to set up reservations at Hank's Seafood based on online research prior to a trip to Charleston. There were many positive reviews and it appears to have received numerous awards. My wife loves seafood while I do not so sometimes I have difficulty finding the same quality food while going to a restaurant that specializes in seafood. My wife loved her Bouillabaisse and I loved my Buttermilk Fried Chicken. It was very busy so reservations appear to be a must. The noise level was typical of any restaurant and the staff was very attentive. I highly recommend Hank's Seafood."

  • "Made a reservation for a special birthday celebration. I was really looking forward to celebrating at Hanks, but was so disappointed. The food was good, but the entire dinning experience was terrible. The noise level was so loud we could not even hear each other at the table. Couldn't hear the waitress tell us the specials. She developed an attitude when we told her we were having a hard time hearing. I realize the noise level was not something she could control, but she could have handled things much better."

  • "It was hard to choose from all the delicious sounding offerings on the menu but it was well worth if. I ended up going a la carte and the grilled grouper I chose was wonderful! And the she crab soup was heaven in a bowl! I could've stopped with the soup and been very happy but I'm glad I didn't. It's a little noisy but by the time the bar crowd starts leaving the noise level isn't so bad. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!"

  • "We are in Charleston 3-4 times a per and always make certain to eat at Hanks because we know the food will always be great. This was our best experience ever because of the service. Our waitress was great. She obviously had a good understanding of the menu and the wine list. We explained the types of wines that we like and she picked out two that we really liked at the price point we requested. Was always there when we needed something and didn't hover. It didn't hurt that the special was outstanding. The blue cheese risotto was great and the fish was cooked perfectly. Best overall meal that we had in Charleston the entire week."
