Attentive wait staff, described any questions on the menu in detail, excellent food and vibrant atmosphere. The seafood crevice was fabulous and very nicely presented, oyster stew was the best I have tasted - full of flavor, plenty of oysters and no trace of flour in the creamy smooth broth. Devine and filling. Will definitely return again and that is special in this city where notable restaurants abound.

The wife and I headed to Hanks for one of many anniversary meals over a long Charleston weekend in November. This restaurant not only held its own against uber-popular upstarts like "Husk" and Charleston classics like " 82 Queen" and "Rue de jean" but, stood out as our favorite. Service was outstanding, seafood fresh and expertly prepared. The atmosphere was really nice without being stiff or pretentious. Will be going back with regularity

I was looking for a place with fresh tasty seafood and found it here. Grilled yellwfin tuna with sauteed spinach and warm fresh bread was just the ticket. Service was attentive and jazz music in the background combined to give me a great dining experience. If you're in CCharleston, dine here!

Delicious seafood. Great open atmosphere. Our ceviche appetizer was especially good. And the Bouillabaisse was the best I have ever had! Cocktails were excellent. The Banana cream pie was a little off-- acidic not creamy.

By far the seafood tower is the best and most impressive item on the menu~~ our friends from Asheville took us to Hanks Sat nite, the place was packed, we'd had reser for several weeks (we don't mind a wait tho, so that was not an issue) I ordered the no. 4~~ the fried shrimp were good , the oysters were unrecognizable and the fried medallions, I assume were potatoes I didn't eat~~ The table at the door should be removed during cold weather, every time someone opened it, it was like stepping into a meat locker~however the hostess was very accommodating and moved us. I love your bar area and again love that tower, unfortunately we didn't get that~~ but the fried food is cooked too long

This restaurant was awesome. However, don't take a date on a Saturday night as the noise levels are deaffening. I could not even converse with my dining partner! Too many hard surfaces and not enough around to absorb the sound. That said, the staff, bartenders and chefs are excellent. Food is to die for. Fresh seafood with expert preparation!

Hank's Seafood Restaurant is an excellent selection for a professional business dinner. Our guests were from the East and West Coasts and the dining experience on a Saturday night was tremendous. We were seated right at our reservation time with gracious service throughout the evening. The drink and menu selections were diverse and highlighted the feel of Charleston. The experience was enjoyed by all.

We wanted to try yet another great restaurant in Charleston. We recently moved here and have tried quiet a few. I read the reviews for Hanks and they were excellent. We decided to try it ourselves and it was all we expected and more. Food was well prepared with a good presentation. It was very busy but our waiter was attentive and made good recommendations. We shall return..

I think we expecting more than was delivered. Our food was good but not memorable. Same could be said for the whole experience. I will say in defense of Hanks, perhaps we didn't order their best items. The table next to us ordered lobsters and oysters and it looked like the better option. If we go back, I am ordering that.

This was our second visit to Hanks and it was not disappointing. The service, food and overall atmosphere was outstanding. This is a place fit for foodies and after work gathering. The Shrimp and Grits were excellent as was the baked Grouper. The Fried oyster with corn and okra is mouth watering.

No time between courses. If you're in a rush, this is a good place, the food is very good, but it's a factory and that was disappointing indeed. They wanted to turn the table. That's too bad. Wouldn't go back. Had a reservation, but had to wait 15 minutes for our table. They told us to go to the bar and have a drink, but there was no place to stand or sit, so we stood in the lobby. No seating. Had to stand on hard tile flooring. Not comfortable at all. There just too many other places to go, so we won't be coming back.

We have been meeting family in Charleston for over ten years. When we first came upon , we liked the look of the "room" We loved sitting in the booths looking out at the bar scene and other diners. We have now made this our first dinner when we arrive in Charleston. Hanks doesn't disappoint. The wait staff is knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. They know what they are doing. The good is excellent. I especially love the scallops....delicious. As busy as Hank's is, we have never felt rushed ..we linger and enjoy the food and the company.

we read many great things about Hanks, we were really looking forward to it. we had two guests we were taking there. We had the sample dozen oysters to start, they were very good. We also ordered the fried calamari which had little flavor and consistency was off. One person in the group had seared tuna, which was cooked perfectly, however came with no other food, so he left hungry and got a hamburger elsewhere. Perhaps the waitstaff could have informed him, he may want to order a side. As it was our first time we didn't know how big the portions would be. another person had the bouillabaisse which had plenty of seafood! but lacked great flavor, and was thus disappointed. we also ordered seafood A LA Wando & shrimp & grits, they were good

We went here because we heard it was a good place to eat. But it was an excellent place to eat. The drinks were professionally made, the food was outstanding and the service was impeccable. I would certainly recommend a reservation because even on a Sunday it fills up fast. I had the shrimp and grits which were in a tomato base but absolutely fantastic. We will certainly be going here again when we come back to Charleston.

I live in Charleston and avoided Hanks for years because I thought it was a tourist trap, plus the Physics Department takes their interview candidates there and everyone knows physicists have weird taste. Consider Sheldon. Then last year an old friend was in town and he wanted to go to Hanks. We three good friends went there for dinner ( I reluctantly ). The first thing that caught my attention was that it was jammed with locals (a good sign, providing they're not physicists). The atmosphere was soothing, the service was friendly, professional, and very accommodating. The food was fantastic. It could very well be the best seafood that I've ever had in Charleston and I'm a foodie who has lived here for 33 years.

The location was very good with a parking garage next door and a block down from the city market. The service was very good. The food was acceptable but sparse. And the price was a little over the top. We have dined in a number of high-end restaurants in Chicago, D.C., and Baltimore as well as various places in Florida and the Lowcountry. This place is slightly overpriced for the quality and quantity of food. Fortunately, we were given a window seat looking out toward the market. The experience would have been far less had we been seated on the interior of this busy restaurant.

We had a fine experience for our group of 6, with 4 from out of town and all hungry for seafood. Never have been disappointed here so order any item and you'll be happy. There is a "Joiner" table in the middle so if you are by yourself or 1 couple, you'd love this concept. The restaurant was crowded but is spacious so there was a great vibe with so many enjoying themselves.

The atmosphere was good. The service was excellent. The food was flavorful. I got the She Crab soup, very good. And, the Grilled Jumbo Shrimp - the flavor was great, but I have never had food that was that salty. The shrimp was too salty to eat. That was unfortunate as my friend enjoyed her meal. Hank's is the seafood equivalent of a classic steak house. The ambience and wait staff are equal but the food is not up to par. Maybe it's my West Coast pallet but the seafood was a bit off an fair seasoning tasting a bit like white pepper overwhelmed. My waiter suggested the tuna tartare over the Latin cerviche. I should have listened.
