Diner Reviews
  • "If you don't like spicy be careful! It was a fun atmosphere. They like to make their food hot on a rating system from 1-10!"

  • "Fantastic food - spice level is perfect for the dishes I had. Best to trust them on the spice level and not go overboard if you have any sensitivity to spice. They're not kidding that 10 is hot! Interesting menu with a variety of options. Plenty to choose from for vegans and vegetarians. Even the scallion pancakes are vegan. Highly recommend the Dan Dan Noodles - spice level was perfect for me but a bit too hot for my husband so if sharing perhaps consider a lower spice level to start unless everyone likes hot. Great cocktails, fun environment!"

  • "I had heard a lot about Han Dynasty, mostly that it was the best Chinese food in Philadelphia, and i was not disappointed. Waiter recommended the Dan Dan noodles and spicy cucumbers as the staples of the restaurant and I could clearly see why. The array of options and the 1-10 spice options made for some tough decisions, but we definitely made the right one going to Han Dynasty."

  • "I love Han Dynasty. that's the truth: it's one of my favorite places in Philly. Despite that, I feel like a broken record here in my reviews: the service is just bad.... I'm tired of giving examples: I've done so in previous reviews. Never got an answer from the restaurant even though I left them my email in the private review option. even when i complain at the restaurant, never it was resolved. but i keep coming back because i have nothing bad to say about the food. i wonder when this bad service will be the last straw..."

  • "Always love going to Han Dynasty. The food and overall place is wonderful."

  • "Introduced two friends to Han Dynasty on this visit, they couldn't stop raving about it! One person in the group was vegetarian, since the service is family style, we all went veggie for the meal and we all loved it. We were able to order a wide variety of spice levels and tastes. The new location in the old corn exchange building definitely ups the swank quotient. A great experience!"

  • "We came midday, and the restaurant was NOT busy. We were seated, served tea, and introduced to the Han history. Perfect. Our waiter was nice...had our appetizer within 10 minutes. After 45 minutes, our waiter never came back, & A table seated 20 minutes after us requested their check (might I add their party was double the size of ours) my boyfriend had to find a different waiter. We were then informed our original waiter never submitted our dinner order. He rectified the problem for us, made friendly conversation, and even recommended different beers for us to try. He was awesome and is the SOLE reason this isn't a 1 star review...That along with the delicious food. Here's my advice. Go to the university city location. Much better service."

  • "Great atmosphere very airy with space to enjoy and not feel crowded. Food was outstanding across the board, Waite staff friendly and pay attention to the details. All and all a great dining experience"

  • "Great restaurant, tough reservation. Fantastic service and food."

  • "I loved the double cooked fish and my friend got the dry pot style beef. Which was really good, but the server didn't explain the spicy rate system. Our food was way too spicy. The water server refilled out glasses at least 4 times."

  • "I've been a huge Han Dynasty fan for a long time. The food has always been incredible and the service friendly. A few weeks after they moved the Old City location I went with some people for dinner and unfortunately was disappointed with the service (nothing terrible, likely just growing pains from hiring a bunch of new staff to accommodate the larger space). I just went back this week and the service was friendly and efficient (full disclosure: it was a Tuesday). Will definitely keep coming back."

  • "The food was great. The service was bad. It wasn't rude. It was just almost non-existent. The server was gone for long periods of time. He did not check in on us. He didn't bring us new plates after the appetizers. He kept bringing the wrong drinks. He was just never around. Very strange. They should have stayed at the smaller place across the street. Better ambience, much better service."

  • "Been here many times and it's always a great time! The Dan-Dan noodles are not to be missed!!!"

  • "Ordered the dumplings as an appetizer, they were okay (the skin is thicker than most, and the meat is not as flavorful as some). Chicken with garlic sauce was great!"

  • "This isn't your typical Chinese restaurant. The menu items are different from what you might see in China town. We did the tasting menu for $25. I liked some of the dishes but everything is not for everybody. I also thought they brought the dishes out too closely together. I would go again and order one of the items I liked."

  • "Second time eating here. Food was great both times and we like their helpful spice level ratings on the menu. Service was extremely slow this time. We were there around 4pm so it wasn't busy yet. Folks who came in long after us were already eating and one couple next to us got served and finished their meal while we were still waiting for our entree. We kept trying to get someones attention but just couldn't achieve eye contact with the staff. It seemed as though the staff couldn't agree on who was responsible for our table. All that said, if you're looking for an original menu and great flavors, we highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "excellent two person dinner place, the ambience and service are good, not mention the excellent food. Suggestion: too much sauce, not that healthy"
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "I will probably give this restaurant a higher ranking next time. The food is excellent, but, be warned, it is hot! Even a middling "rating" of 5 (it goes from 1-10) would be too much for some palates."

  • "Love this place, always great food and a great time."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "I cannot believe that foodies and people give this place anything but a poor rating. This is by far the WORST Chinese food of any type I have had in my life. The food was slathered in grease, spicy to the point it was completely inedible. It was one of the worst meals we have had in a long time. We were there on Valentine's day with our kids. They obviously ate nothing but white rice. Do yourselves a favor and pass on this place; you will be disappointed. If you went to a hole in the wall neighborhood Chinese restaurant with rats in the kitchen, you will get better tasting food."

  • "…still good even if you don't. The Dan Dan noodles were fantastic and easily my favorite dish that we sampled."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Han dynasty was more than I expected interns if the food and ambiance. You definitely have to enjoy spice because just about everything on the menu is fiery hot! But despite the spice the food was excellent."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "We didn't think it lived up to the recent hype. It was good, but didn't think it was great. The Dan Dan noodles in particular are good, but not worthy of all the raves I've been reading. The waiter was pleasant enough, but our meal was served before the beer we ordered as soon as we arrived and even then it was wrong. I am willing to make a return visit, but only if others i am dining with want to go. Probably won't return on my own initiative."

  • "If you want to feel like you are in New York City this is the place to go. If you're like me and don't enjoy an overly loud dining experience I would avoid it on the weekends. You get very "cozy" with your neighbors because the tables are insanely close together. Other than that the food is fantastic and it does provide an alternative to your typical eating out experience."

  • "This was our second time with Han and our first at the bigger space (old World Fusion). The larger space is beautiful and grand, I missed the coziness of the spot on the south side of Chestnut Street. The food is delicious and the noodle quality is superb, I am just not fit for the level of spice that Han delivers. My wife more than I and overall it was an excellent meal."

  • "Love Han Dynasty's new spot. Great food--their garlic eggplant is always our favorite."
    Dined on 2/4/2014
  • "Han Dynasty is now in a magnificent space with a soaring ceiling, impressive architectural details and artwork, but the food, while definitely a cut above what your neighborhood Chinese takeout place cranks out, is also pricier, and doesn't quite reach the ambition of the setting. Specialty cocktails are interesting and the bar area itself is a worthwhile place for a bite (though the noise from cheering sports fans which spilled out into the dining room was a slight negative). Spice/hotness ratings are helpful, and not to be ignored."

  • "This was literally the best Chinese food that I have ever had. I had heard some great things from friends who have been to both the Old City, as well as the University City location, and saw the restaurant featured on Anthony Bourdain's The Layover. Han Dynasty definitely lived up to these reviews. While the food was incredibly spicy, this spice did not simply overpower you; rather, it provided a tasty backdrop for all the wonderful flavors in every dish. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and look forward to coming back myself."

  • "Knowledgeable service combined with large meals with just the perfect amount of spice for those who like spicy foods and asian cuisine."

  • "By far the best Asian food I have had in years. Well worth the trip in center city from the suburbs."

  • "Han Dynasty was impeccable from start to finish. The original reservation was for 6, they accommodated for two more, only a few hours prior to the reservation. I've been to a couple locations and a few of the tastings. After raving about it, my friends and I decided to make a group night of it. The service was excellent and recommended the tasting, since we had 8 people. It was an excellent choice and each of us loved the variety of dishes and flavors. There was more than enough food for all of us. The drink selection was great too. In addition, it was a friemd's birthday and to make her night even more fun, they treated her to a shot with a candle and we celebrated even more. Much success to you in your new location. It's incredible!"

  • "Great food. If you like spicy food with flavor this is a great place. If you don't like spicy food there are still tons of dishes. They note which dishes are spicy with a number from one to ten. So you can select a bunch of dishes, we got (3), (6), and a (7). Awsome place."

  • "My friend and I have our weekly dinner session here at Han Dynasty. We cannot make it a week without our Dan Dan Noodles. The service is absolutely FANTASTIC. Every server we've had has been stellar. Great personalities and on top of their stuff!"

  • "Han has THE BEST Chinese cuisine. GO QUICK! I always bring out of town family and friends here."
    Dined on 5/14/2013
  • "Our waiter was terrible. He barely knew the menu, mixed up our wine order, and never refilled our water. Also, the kitchen had the entrees ready to close to the appetizers so our table was overcrowded with food. We felt very rushed, not a good experience."
    Dined on 1/11/2014
  • "The three cup chicken was fatty and the rice noodle was oily. Frankly, a bit of a disappointment given the stellar dining experience I've had in the past at their Exton location."
