Diner Reviews
  • "We chose the Hamilton Grill based on a recommendation from our B&B host. It's not easy to find as it's tucked away behind some shops and down an alley/driveway. We sat outside on a beautiful evening which was very pleasant. Our waiter, Michael, was personable and very helpful with the handwritten menu which is hard to read. Our entrees were perfect, I had a tuna steak special which was perfect, my husband chose the salmon from Copper River, also excellent. Don't miss this gem for a great dinner."

  • "This is a favorite hidden gem that never fails to provide excellent food and service. The Ahi dinner special was especially exceptional with melt-in-your-mouth tuna and a corn and asparagus salad that was wonderful. Stop at the Boat House across the alley for a pre-dinner cocktail and if you forget that Hamilton is BYOB, you can always take a walk and purchase a bottle at a reasonable price."

  • "I love this place and specially outside is beautiful . We visit this Restorent for few years but last time it was disopointment with food. Food was very poor quality"

  • "Hamilton Grill Room is great for outdoor dining but unfortunately that's about it. Service was ok but not that attentive. Tables on either side of us were noisy but that's not the restaurant's fault. My borscht was great but my wife's salad wasn't much. My grilled veal chop was unevenly cooked with parts close to raw. My wife's salmon was dry and didn't have much taste. With a $35 price tag just for the entree I wasn't about to pay another $6 for sides. Entrees came with broccoli with yellow tips which was colorful but I'm told is a sign of age. Mash potatoes were soupy. Checking it off our list. We wont be back."

  • "We eat here for special events. It is a solid choice, but this last meal was less inspiring. The atmosphere remains charming."

  • "My husband and I have dined here a few times for our anniversary. Never disappointed. The food was spectacular. The service was very attentive. Will definitely come back for lunch and dinner."

  • "The atmosphere is quite pleasant, either inside or outside in the beautiful garden. The menu always has tasty and unique offerings. The service is not over the top but appropriate and just right. The food is never awesome off the charts, but it is always fresh, well prepared and will please almost every foodie we know. The prices reflect this. If you want even a better meal than what the Hamilton offers, you should be prepared to spend at least 25% more. I would prefer this BYOB where I can bring a ten or fifteen year old bottle from my wine room, than to go across the river and get ripped off on the beverage prices that are being charged."

  • "Seasonal menu with great appetizers and entrees. Desserts are chef made and delicious. Grilled items are outstanding. Try the shrimp and anchovy appetizer."

  • "I had heard so much about Hamilton and was looking forward to it for a while. I made reservations for my SO and I off his very first Father's Day. It was disappointing from the start because it was a beautiful evening and we were crammed in a corner in the back room where it was way too hot crowded and muggy while the outdoor area still had empty tables. Our waitress was very nice, but forgot about us several times to where we had to flag down a busboy just to get water. The wait for everything was very long and the hand written menu very frustrating to attempt to read. Our food was pricey and very very salty and caused us to constantly have too look for someone to refill our water. The experience lasted over two hours."

  • "I have been going to Hamilton's Grill Room for the last ten years. It is a favorite BYOB spot in Lambertville for dining with family, friends and out-of-town guests. Love the atmosphere and the no-nosense menu of "solid" grilled entrées. Sadly my last couple of visits have been marred by less than stellar service; food is very slow to arrive with no apology, and while I enjoy a leisurely meal, this lackadaisical service leaves the feeling that one has been forgotten. Will return, but less frequently and with less enthusiasm than in the past."

  • "Wonderful atmosphere and eclectic ambiance. Outdoor dining in the summer is recommended and try to get a window seat overlooking the water during cooler weather. Dishes are not overly complex and rely upon fresh ingredients and an open grill to capture the flavor of the food."

  • "Beautiful location and facilty but the fresh oysters were stringy, not plump, and pieces of shucked shell in several. Medium rare tuna was overcooked and grey throughout, salmon requested medium was brought out almost raw, Delmonico steak was met with the comment " I have made better steak at home". The scallpop entree was very good. Rosotto sidedish was excellent but broccoli rabe was mostly stalks. Deserts were excellent especially the scone. Service was attentive and informed though waitress forgot one of the soup appetizers. Once it arrived (just be the entrees) the cold beet borsht was worth the wait. With many options for good food nearby, we probably wil not be back."

  • "The food, decor, and super staff make this feel like you are at the home of a friend who is an awesome cook! We love it!"

  • "The server recommended other more expensive dishes than we ordered. The tuna was tasteless and served with cafeteria type rice. Not good! Tasteless steak smothered with cheese to camaflogu taste."

  • "Outdoor dining in particular is lovely. The food is just ok, nothing special or interesting. Crab cakes were a bit rubbery. Desserts did not tempt at all."

  • "Picturesque, quaint building by the Delaware canal, outdoor court, chef grills your meal in the center of the restaurant, nautical themed bar across the alley"

  • "This restaurant has one of the most beautiful outdoor dining areas. We celebrated a birthday and the night was perfect. My guests loved the oysters and the entrees were great. Will definitely come back!"

  • "I had a lobster roll sandwich for lunch. It was the best I have ever had. The desserts were delicious as well."

  • "Food was generally very good. Only exception was the scone dessert, which was very dry and needed some moisture (whip cream, ice cream??). Waiters were professional, albeit a bit haughty and slow. Highly recommended for seating on the patio on a warm night."

  • "We returned to NJ after nearly a 20 years absence. We use to visit Lambertville almost every weekend to dine and change our pace. We discovered this restaurant upon our return by walking the D & R canal several weeks ago which runs adjacent. It was a nice fine. It is down a narrow street which ends and a large and fun courtyard is revealed. It is a BYO restaurant which seems to be common to the region. Our apps of clams in marinara were outstanding and watercress salad which we modified was fantastic. Our entrees (fish special and chicken) were good but not quite at the same level with too large of portions for us. Still we will be happy to return and bring friends."

  • "The weather was perfect. So was the food and service last night. Located in the Pork Yard in Lambertiville, HG is a find, a touch of Europe. We ate tiger shrimp, wonderfully spiced and grilled, the most tender and juicy veal chops, and grilled fish, followed by a flour less tort. We return again and again."

  • "Party of 4. dining outside. We started with Bluepoints served in a rustic wood bowl. Our server thoughtfully suggested right sizing the portion of shrimp w/ anchovy butter accommodating a taste for everyone. The duck and the Delmonico, both were prepared perfectly. The Pomme Frites, were an instant target of four forks. The grilled duck breast was generous & tender - the braised leg melts in your mouth. The Salmon with dill and cucumber, I would call the best salmon entree I have ever tasted. It tops my ATF rare white King Salmon Sushi I get in Seattle. If you have never been to Hamilton's Grill Room, Foodies can sit at the grill bar, talk with chef Mark as he grills entrees to perfection. Its a rare treat to watch a master."

  • "Taking someone out for his 80th birthday who lives in a city, travels a lot and eats in the finest places ( yet, doesn't have an adventurous palate) meant were we're looking for a special local gem with truly good cooking of standard dishes. This fit the bill, the Location and setting were interesting and cute. Food was exceptional, undercooked trout was sent back and came back great. All other dishes were truly delicious from the first bite. Service was attentive. And best of all, even though our room in the middle was fully seated the noise level was quiet enough to talk. "

  • "We've been coming here for many many years and it's always very special. Best grill man in NJ and the food is outstanding, as well as having a varied and unique menu. This is a wonderful place; an oasis of great food and ambience. If it was around the corner, I'd be here every night. Bravo!"

  • "Gone to Hamilton Grill many times and always loved it. On my last visit my friend and I ordered the veal chop. I ordered mine well done. When it came it was rare and I sent it back. When it came back it was still rare. At that point my wife gave me her steak which she hadn't finished. The hostess came to see what the problem was and apologized. This was not an issue at this point since we were finished. The hostess sent us free desert which was very nice, but I would rather have had dinner. If I wanted Desert for dinner I would have gone to the Bakery. There is nothing worse than a Chef who decides how you should eat your food."

  • "Service was lacking significantly, although the hostesses really tried to make-up for the absent server. Bread and water took forever (and multiple requests) to arrive. Cesear Salads were good, Duck was great as were mashed potatoes and vegtables. The Strip Steak was ok - I need to limit my steak to filet minon at Marsha Browns or top-notch steak houses."

  • "We had a group of 9 for dinner with no children but had to change our reservation's time and number of people several times because of changing soccer schedules/baby sitting considerations and the staff was most understanding . There is a great bar directly across the street from the Hamilton Grill. We had a drink there on their patio and then went across the alley for dinner. The food was very good and the wait staff attentive and knowledgeable. The anchovy shrimp was excellent but you had to work some to get at it as it was fused to the shell in the grilling process. The Grill is BYOB and it really was our own as we made it ourselves. Bring good friends, wine and this restaurant will do the rest quite well. "

  • "Great dinner. We went there for my wife's birthday. Table to the left of us was also celebrating a birthday. Large table to the right was celebrating two birthdays - so definitely a place appropriate to celebrate special days. BYOB but food is amazing. If you like pork chops, the stuffed pork chop is the kind you'll dream about. The pappardelle (appetizer) was also a huge hit. "

  • "Been there 3x in all kinds of weather, Sitting in an enclosed area, by candlelight, in the rain w/a beautiful view..was like a movie set. Waitress very helpful. Wanted duck & the leg removed not the chutney/tomato it came with They made it grilled w/a garlic sauce they use on steaks..boy was it good! Usually have duck w/raspberry or l'orange..this was different & one of the best duck dishes I ever had. Dessert my companion had a blueberry/coconut wedge very interesting taste w/tea was ideal to round out the meal. Wish it was in center city or Penns Landing.. a nice ride for a magnificent meal."

  • "We have been going to Hamilton's Grill Room since it first opened, and it has been consistently superb. Steaks, seafood, lamb chops, awesome shrimp with anchovy butter, unusual salads, killer desserts. The Wednesday night seafood extravaganza was excellent. Go there now!"

  • "We were recommended to Hamilton's by a friend with exceptional taste and we were not disappointed. From the secluded unique location to the ambiance and top notch service we were all very happy with this dining experience. Matt was our waiter and he was a pleasure, great attitude, very knowledgeable and always a smile. He did recommend the NY Strip over the Delmonico which I followed and was a little disappointed, not because the strip wasn't great, but it just didn't have the flavor of the Delmonico. Food was served promptly and with a smile from everyone. We will definitely be back...and the Boat House across the way...these two independent but clearly dependent establishments work perfectly well together. "

  • "We spent an important 40th anniversary dinner with friends at Hamilton's. The waitress raved about the shrimp appetizer that we HAD to try. It was nothing special, and in fact undercooked. The food was good, not memorable overall. Towards the end of the evening, the waitress knocked over my husband's full wine glass (its BYO) and did nothing to make amends. It was a very expensive bottle of wine, which was not even the issue. She didnt even try to clean it off the table, and it splashed on his shirt and pants. Finally, to add insult to injury, about 5 minutes later, she asked if we could leave because they had lots of people waiting. Not cool. "
