  • "Our group went there for prime rib. It tasted and looked as if they had made a large vat of gravy, sliced the raw meat and dumped it into the vat to cook. There was no taste of roasted meat. Big bar scene upstairs with flashing lights, but downstairs it was quiet and empty. Good mussel appetizer, but if you want roast beef, prime or otherwise, this is not the place. Sorry."

  • "It is clear that this restaurant is under new management. We came here 4 years ago for brunch. It was live music, carving, omelette and wonderful dessert stations. Service was amazing. No more. The food was less than mediocre at best; reheated and luke warm, as was the coffee and tea. It was like having lunch at a school or factory. Terrible. We needn't have made a reservation, because there was hardly anyone in there and not a waiter to be found. Four years ago, they took your name at the door, guided you to a seat and pulled out the chair for you. This time, there was no one to greet us. When we did find someone he raised his arm in a sweeping motion and told us to sit where we liked. worst Mothers Day brunch ever a I'll NEVER go back."

  • "The decor was classic and sophisticated; the service was attentive and detailed; and most importantly: the food was spectacular. The ribeyes we ordered were cooked exactly to specification and tasted amazing. We were there on a Friday night, and it was very quiet. We hope more people chose to stop in as the food is definitely worth the cost and time."

  • "After much looking, five guy friends and I chose Hamilton and Ward Steakhouse due to the excellent looking website. There were five people at the bar and we were not greeted for a while which was odd. After we were finally met, we were brought downstairs to an empty dining room. VERY beautiful room, but EMPTY. Not a soul at 7pm on a Saturday night. There was no drink menu but rolls were piping hot, hinting at an excellent meal to come. However, the steaks were just ok. 6-7 on a 1-10 scale. My first NY strip looked rare, when I ordered it med, but was almost freeze dried. It came back almost rare and then came back delicious. They gave us a round of drinks on the house which was a nice gesture but steaks lacked too much to make up for it."

  • "I eat lunch here every month or two. The quality of the skirt steak is unmatched. I love the flavor of the marinade and you can tell this is prime beef, not a cheap cut of meat. And for only $16 at lunch including potato and veggie, the price is right. I also highly recommend the onion soup."

  • "We came back after 2 yrs. My wife and I decided to dine at the lounge since she loved the background music. We had the crabcakes and the shrimp arrabiata for an appetizer. They were just as good as we remembered them. The maitre d’ was very helpful in choosing a red wine and suggested the Ribeye steak as one of our entrees. My ribeye and my wife's surf & turf were perfectly cooked. Our server even asked to cut into them to make sure they were properly done (which many steakhouses don’t do anymore). We learned they changed management since our last visit and overall the experience surpassed good memories from last visit. When leaving and to our surprise the car was already in the front and the valet waiting for us. Very attentive staff."

  • "I heard steaks were good, found out when we got there due to holiday were only serving brunch; been to many brunch serving places and this one leaves a lot to be desired. The service was absent, we were seated our drink order was taken and that was time I saw service until I walked around asking for my check; and the place was not even full."

The food was great, service was prompt and the cost was very reasonable. I was pleased with the overall experience and now will come back for dinner.   • "I've been here before and had a great time. Unfortunately, they changed managers and the chef. They were known for their Ribeye ("the Flinstone") and thick cuts. Unfortunately no "Flinstone" cuts for us...the chef pulled it form the menu and no seafood tower either. One (1) waiter on a thursday night and a helper.....huh. There were 2 tables of 4-6 and one couple so you could say it was a slow night. The food was still good but when you have prices in the $$$$.....SERVICE is what we want. I must give credit to the helper for making us stuffed olives for our martinis. Oh...the sweet thing was they timed the valet service perfect...as soon as I walked out my vehicle pulled up....but maybe because there were not too many vehicles."

  • "The food was awesome. My colleague had the oysters appetizer and I had the crab cakes, both excellent. Then we split the Porterhouse for 2, outstanding, cooked perfectly. Our main waiter, Luis, was helpful all through the lunch with the wines and Carmine was also an excellent waiter. Both guys knew what they were talking about and were fun.   • "Excellent steakhouse in the middle of Paterson. The area surrounding the restaurant has been built up a bit so don't worry about your safety while driving around the area (this was a concern for some members of the party). Parking is a non-issue because they offer free valet. I have eaten at many top shelf steak joints around the country and the filet mignon/sides at H&W matched them in quality and preparation. I wasn't alone in my positive opinion of the experience -- the six other people at my table were also very happy and expressed a desire to return. The restaurant was also able to accomodate my two-year-old niece with a smile! Get out of your comfort zone, head to the Silk City, and you will leave full and happy!"

  • "This is a really nice restaurant. It is a shame that on a Saturday night there were so few people there. They have a beautiful bar area large with nice seating and no one was in the bar. its a little pricey but most good steakhouses are expensive. We had a great evening with friends and the food was perfect."

  • "HORRIBLE Our first clue should have been that the restaurant was TOTALLY empty when we arrived for our 7pm Sunday evening reservation. Our steaks were fatty with gristle -- and not the NY Strip cut that was ordered. And my wife's ravioli came out 5 mins after the rest of us got our steaks (what first year line cook can't time ravioli and steaks to come out at the same time -- especially if the dining room was otherwise empty). So I was really looking forward to the chocolate mousse on the menu (even listed as one of the specials) for dessert. They were out (huh? that means they never made any -- there was no one else in the restaurant). So I went with the flow, and ordered vanilla ice cream. They ran out of vanilla ice cream!"

  • "If you didn't know you were in Paterson,NJ you would think you were in a private dining club in NYC. An excellent but pricey wine list. It is touted as a steak house and should be viewed as such...sides a la carte etc. Decor is well done with nice wood and lighting. A real plus was the staff who were friendly and knew their way around the menu. Sergio, the maitre d' and sommelier was knowledgeable and friendly. If you are within hailing distance it's worth the detour."

  • "Overall, the price was definitely right for the brunch. The ambiance is great, and you are not cramped. However, the food was just "good"; fine for the price in such an establishment. Wait staff was relatively attentive, albeit young and appearing to be in training. As this was my first time for brunch, having the wait staff direct us to the food without having to ask would have been helpful. When I asked for fresh pepper, I received salt and pepper shakers, not a pepper mill. Although it was fairly early in the brunch timeperiod, when I asked for plain cheesecake, I was told there was only what was out. A definite plus, however, was when I asked to see the private dining area. The maitre d' was very ambiable in showing it to us."

  • "This was my fourth time at H and W. I think it has been getting better and better. Lunch was outstanding. Great value. My party had the chopped steak platter and the crabcake sandwich. Both said they were excellent. I had the sesame crusted tuna from the dinner menu which was outstanding. H and W is not what you would expect to find in Paterson and if you can get over the incorrect stigma of going to Paterson, it is worth the trip. Parking for lunch is in the garage at the Center City Mall which is well lit, busy, and secure. At night there is valet parking. Worth the trip."

  • "We had been here last year for Mothers day and it was great. So I wanted to go again. We expected the same kind of spread. Last year there was loads of food, plenty of choices and fantastic deserts. This year, it didnt feel like a special day at all. It was overpriced for what they were offering. The food was mediocre and the choices were pretty lame. There were only cookies for deserts. Last year, there were several carving stations, lots of breakfast foods, and plenty of choices for lunch. They had a whole table of deserts. Coffee cake, red velvet cake, coconut cake, pastries and cookies. I was very disappointed...especially hearing from other mothers who had gone to other places with lots more food for a lesser price."

  • "Upon arrival at the valet station on a Friday night at 7:00, no valet was to be seen at all.We entered a very nice interior of a restaurant that was nearly completly empty. When led to our table, we were to be only the second group of diners in this wide expance of a place. The on-line menu, I quickly found out, was outdated. Very few of the appealing items we went there for were now unavailable. All four of us chose to order two appetizers rather than dinner. I do not know how this establishment has remained in business. If it's a quiet mediocre very expensive dinner you desire, I still would not reccomend it!"

H & W is way over priced for the quality of food and service. Clearly something is wrong because it was a Saturday night and the place was empty."

  • "Was here for the first time and was satisfied with my meal. Wasn't the best steakhouse I've been to, but served its purpose. The place is huge and has additional rooms that would be perfect for a private party, even a wedding ballroom. Go upstairs and have a smoke in their cigar room. They have free valet every day. The food was good, but the amenities were out of this world. You would never expect this place. Service was extremely friendly and attentive. They were out of stock on the wine I ordered and upgraded me to a better wine for free. Will most likely return, particularly to take advantage of the wine cellar room. If you go there, ask to see that room, they will happily show you. Try this place, it's worth it"

  • "I want this to be good - I want this to be good. It is a much needed steak house in Paterson that doesn't wow you with the food and has uneven, but earnest service. We seem to get a mix of a real pro coupled with some people who perpetually appear to be in training. It offers steakhouse fare that is well prepared but doesn't knock your socks off."

  • "The atmosphere inside is nice. The waiter didn't offer the early bird menu and when we asked it took him 20 minutes to get back to us. Ironically we wanted to see it but we weren't ordering from it. Brought our own wine charged 25 to corking fee. We stated we would order wine from them but he said no problem. Food was fair not great. Overall, not a great experience"

  • "Over all I would rate it a 7 out of 10. The food and the presentation is above average. Avoid the Sweet Potatoe Cheescake unless you really love the overpowreing taste of cinnamon. It was definitely on the pricey side, perhaps even a little bit overpriced. Do not go if you are on a tight budget. The staff is very attentive without being intrusive. Avoid corner booth where the servers have to reach across the table to pour. The lighting lends itself to a nice quiet dinner, The only thing that would be better is add a little bit of soothing dinner music. They have a few private rooms and if the doors to the rooms are left open the noise can be very annoying"
