A word from Hal's - Buckhead
A restaurant that triumphs in taste over trend, Hal's is not the typical highbrow restaurant so often equated with food of this quality. It is a place of white table cloths, flowers, warm brick, & candlelight.

Diner Reviews
  • "Hal's was a great place to celebrate our family's annual anniversaries celebration. Food was fabulous, as was the atmosphere and the service. Highly recommend Hal's as a special spot to celebrate."

  • "Year after year this neighborhood hideaway delivers excellent food, beautifully prepared and saved. Not a lot of hoop-la just great food. Thank you Hal for knowing who you are and delivering on that."

  • "The food was good and the service was good. However, the noise level was too loud and the lighting was too dark. I will return but on another day towards the beginning of the week. Clearly, this is the in spot for people on an expense account. This is also a spot for people who want to be seen in the hottest places."

  • "This is the best steak I've had this far in Atlanta. I know this was also on the Top 10 list in Atlanta as well. Noise level is out of control. If you're expecting a relaxing romantic night, head elsewhere. Service was okay. I assume since they're so busy they forget you're there... did I say I loved the steak?"

  • "We had never been to Hal's, even though we remember when it first opened in Atlanta. We were looking forward to a nice evening at this well-known restaurant. We were disappointed for several reasons. Our server was not what we expected from Hal's. He seemed uninterested in our table. The tables are very close together and it is hard to get in and out of your seat, plus it is so loud that you can hear several tables' conversations, but it was hard for us to hear each other. The food was okay, but not special. The only upside was that we were served a big portion."

  • "We have been going to Hals for the past three years and in the last year the service has dramatically gotten worse. Food is great but you are paying for it and you expect to have better service . The waiters were all more interested in watching the television on the wall. Also if you don't like loud restaurant then you might want to avoid going late."

  • "Probably one of my top five dining experiences. Loved sitting on the enclosed upstairs porch. Superior food made for a spectacular evening. Divine mussels, rib eye, Mac & cheese topped off with a few bottles of Frank Family cabernet. Can hardly wait to return!"

  • "Best steak ever. Waiter service was top notch. Great birthday celebration choice."

  • "Best steak in Atlanta! Excellent service! Great desert!"

  • "Unbelievably loud- hectic- requested table at front room upstairs- not available-disappointing. Our Table was very close to those around us- waiters bumped into our chair backs several times- wait staff -rather aloof! Food was good- but not the experience in which we were hoping."

  • "BEST steak in Atlanta - without a doubt! Servers there forever and know their food!"
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "The filet is got to be the best in Atlanta. Cooked perfectly and great flavor."

  • "Our first time to Hal's. Will definitely go back. The food and service were excellent. They have something on their menu for everyone."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "The food is always delicious and that is worth enduring the noise level."

  • "Hals is the best restaurant in Atlanta period. I've been going for years and it still gets better and better with each visit."

  • "I've been to all of them: Bones, Chops, Rathbuns, Chris, etc., etc. I was at Hals 3 years ago and the steak , at that time, was absolutely the best. Two nights ago three of us went and all ordered Bone in Ribeyes. They were so tender and flavorful with a great texture, that its difficult to put in words how good they were. The side dishes were also of note. I would recommend this place, without qualifications, for steak aficionados."

  • "Everything was spot on. Before dinner drinks at the bar with Ace to the great wine list and perfectly prepared steaks."

  • "Hal's has never disappointed me when it comes to steak. Always fantastic. And this time, the sides seemed to be a bit better than before - the white truffle mac & cheese is excellent. My only complaint on the food would be that the Caeser dressing tests a bit too overwhelmingly like anchovies. To me, the anchovies should accent the flavor, not dominate it. Service here is usually not quite on par with restaurants of this caliber, but it's never bad either, and that was the case this time. Be prepared, it's extremely loud, especially later in the evening. We had a 9:30 reservation on a Saturday night, and it was very hard to have a conversation over the roar from the bar (we were on the far side from the bar)."

  • "The food was fantastic as well as the service. We were celebrating my fiance 30th birthday and Hals made everything special and romantic for us. They even accommodated a birthday cake I dropped off early and surprised my fiance at the table."

  • "Best restaurant in Atlanta, best steak in the world. No question about it!"

  • "We started at the upstairs bar... excellent drinks were served by an attractive young lady at an energetic, friendly bar. We then moved downstairs for dinner. Guido was our server, he has been before, and he was excellent. Great advice, smooth service experience. And the food was excellent. We started with fried oysters, moved on to salads and then a bone-in ribeye that we prepared to perfection. The thing about Hal's that you can't quite explain is the atmosphere... the people that go there. It's a friendly, not trendy, energetic type atmosphere. I always expect that, if you go to a restaurant enough times, you'll eventually have a bad experience. We've been to Hal's many times, and so far, a consistent good experience is all we've had."

  • "Have lived near Hal's for a long time and heard mostly great things about it. it is supposed to be great for steaks but also for other food. I am not a meat eater bit since I like seafood and had out of town guests who like steak I thought it would be the perfect opportunity. We found out that indeed the steak was very good but the lamb that someone had and sea bass which I had were just ok. My seabass while being a nice size was very buttery or oily making it feel heavy. The noise in the restaurant was also excessive."

  • "As always...consistently a great experience all around."

  • "This is truly THE BEST steakhouse I have experienced... and I have experienced almost all of them (Mortons, The Palm, Capital Grille, DelFrisco, Burns, to name a few). All 4 in our party were blown away by the food and service. I don't normally write reviews, but this is the exception!"

  • "The food has always been very good, with an attentive wait staff. On each of our 5 visits here in 2014, the young ladies at the hostess stand have acted like they were doing us a favor by seating us. They give Hals a poor first impression."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "The space was crowded and noisy, which unfortunately made it difficult to socialize and make the overall dinning experience unpleasant."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "The food is absolutely amazing. Very accommodating to large groups."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Went to Hal's for the first time with a buddy who is a 'steak and potatoes' guy. We both ordered the filet mignon and were extremely pleased. The flavor was amazing, and it melted in your mouth. It was also pretty big. I know I will be back because I will crave that steak again. They had a soft shell crab as an appetizer that was good, and the lobster bisque was also good. Definitely recommend Hal's if you have a steak snob in your group- they won't be disappointed."

  • "Great food, but overbooked. We waited for almost 40 minutes for our table even though we had a reservation."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "I've been dining at Hal's since it first opened in the late 1980's and it is without equal in quality, service and overall atmosphere. It serves the best steaks of any steakhouse south of Chicago and New York and the overall experience is always fantastic."

  • "My wife and I celebrated an anniversary at Hal's. The quality of service and food were excellent. The noise level was a little high, but we were seated near the bar. I would definitely return for the bone in ribeye."

  • "I have ate at restaurants all over the world...This place had IT all!!! Great seafood and mouth watering steak.....recommend whatever steak you get with shoe string onion rings and mashed potatoes which are so creamy and rich it's sinful.... Thinking of this place almost brought a tear to my eye...Delicious, Great Service and killer ambiance! Hals is the place to go in the ATL!!!"

  • "Really great food. Happening place. Lots of people on a Saturday night. Efficient. Reservations required!"

  • "Food and service were very good but restaurant smells like an old bar with stale cigarette smoke. Too many tables crowded in to the space."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary. And I must say this was the perfect atmosphere. The crowd was friendly and both the food and service were outstanding. I had the Prime bone-in ribeye and my husband had Hal's ribeye. Both were phenomenal. Perfect seasoning. The escargots were amazing as well. Then we finished off our meal with their famous bourbon bread pudding. When they say bourbon, they mean bourbon. Delish!"

  • "Our steaks and appetizer were excellent. The waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. Having never been there, we opted to sit downstairs, where it's a little loud, and a little cramped. My only complaint was that the service was a little too speedy. We were in and out of there in 50 minutes!"

  • " The food is always great, the service is also wonderful. I would eat here everyweekend if I could."

  • "We had heard many good things about Hal's, but our experience was disappointing. We were seated at a small table, hardly large enough for 2 diners. The room was loud, and the service was indifferent at best. My wife had the duck, and it was almost inedible. My snapper with artichokes and mushrooms had a sauce that was too sour and which overpowered the flavor of the fish and the artichokes. Perhaps this was just an off night, but it was not what we expected."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Hal's is loud, the tables are too close together and overpriced. The food was pretty good but not great. I asked for a medium rare NY strip but it arrived rare. The Caesar salad was very good as were the mashed potatoes. The waiter was rushed and would disappear for several minutes at a time. The tables are too close together so I was bumped many times by other customers and wait staff. I was looking forward to my first vist to Hal's but probably won't return. Bones, Little Alley and Chops provide me with a better overall steak dining experience."

  • "Hals is simply the best steakhouse I have ever been to. Traveling around the US and world on business, I often target steak houses to see how they match up against Hals. Most recent test was the famous Gordon Ramsey steak in Las Vegas, without a doubt Hals is much better. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves a great steak, plentiful sides and impeccable service."
