A word from Hal's - Buckhead
A restaurant that triumphs in taste over trend, Hal's is not the typical highbrow restaurant so often equated with food of this quality. It is a place of white table cloths, flowers, warm brick, & candlelight.

Diner Reviews
  • "The space was crowded and noisy, which unfortunately made it difficult to socialize and make the overall dinning experience unpleasant."

  • "Our first time to Hal's. Will definitely go back. The food and service were excellent. They have something on their menu for everyone."

  • "The filet is got to be the best in Atlanta. Cooked perfectly and great flavor."

  • "The food is always delicious and that is worth enduring the noise level."

  • "Everything was spot on. Before dinner drinks at the bar with Ace to the great wine list and perfectly prepared steaks."

  • "I've been to all of them: Bones, Chops, Rathbuns, Chris, etc., etc. I was at Hals 3 years ago and the steak , at that time, was absolutely the best. Two nights ago three of us went and all ordered Bone in Ribeyes. They were so tender and flavorful with a great texture, that its difficult to put in words how good they were. The side dishes were also of note. I would recommend this place, without qualifications, for steak aficionados."

  • "Hals is the best restaurant in Atlanta period. I've been going for years and it still gets better and better with each visit."

  • "We started at the upstairs bar... excellent drinks were served by an attractive young lady at an energetic, friendly bar. We then moved downstairs for dinner. Guido was our server, he has been before, and he was excellent. Great advice, smooth service experience. And the food was excellent. We started with fried oysters, moved on to salads and then a bone-in ribeye that we prepared to perfection. The thing about Hal's that you can't quite explain is the atmosphere... the people that go there. It's a friendly, not trendy, energetic type atmosphere. I always expect that, if you go to a restaurant enough times, you'll eventually have a bad experience. We've been to Hal's many times, and so far, a consistent good experience is all we've had."

  • "This is truly THE BEST steakhouse I have experienced... and I have experienced almost all of them (Mortons, The Palm, Capital Grille, DelFrisco, Burns, to name a few). All 4 in our party were blown away by the food and service. I don't normally write reviews, but this is the exception!"

  • "Hal's has never disappointed me when it comes to steak. Always fantastic. And this time, the sides seemed to be a bit better than before - the white truffle mac & cheese is excellent. My only complaint on the food would be that the Caeser dressing tests a bit too overwhelmingly like anchovies. To me, the anchovies should accent the flavor, not dominate it. Service here is usually not quite on par with restaurants of this caliber, but it's never bad either, and that was the case this time. Be prepared, it's extremely loud, especially later in the evening. We had a 9:30 reservation on a Saturday night, and it was very hard to have a conversation over the roar from the bar (we were on the far side from the bar)."

  • "Best restaurant in Atlanta, best steak in the world. No question about it!"

  • "The food was fantastic as well as the service. We were celebrating my fiance 30th birthday and Hals made everything special and romantic for us. They even accommodated a birthday cake I dropped off early and surprised my fiance at the table."

  • "Have lived near Hal's for a long time and heard mostly great things about it. it is supposed to be great for steaks but also for other food. I am not a meat eater bit since I like seafood and had out of town guests who like steak I thought it would be the perfect opportunity. We found out that indeed the steak was very good but the lamb that someone had and sea bass which I had were just ok. My seabass while being a nice size was very buttery or oily making it feel heavy. The noise in the restaurant was also excessive."

  • "The food has always been very good, with an attentive wait staff. On each of our 5 visits here in 2014, the young ladies at the hostess stand have acted like they were doing us a favor by seating us. They give Hals a poor first impression."

  • "As always...consistently a great experience all around."

  • "The food is absolutely amazing. Very accommodating to large groups."

  • "Went to Hal's for the first time with a buddy who is a 'steak and potatoes' guy. We both ordered the filet mignon and were extremely pleased. The flavor was amazing, and it melted in your mouth. It was also pretty big. I know I will be back because I will crave that steak again. They had a soft shell crab as an appetizer that was good, and the lobster bisque was also good. Definitely recommend Hal's if you have a steak snob in your group- they won't be disappointed."

  • "Great food, but overbooked. We waited for almost 40 minutes for our table even though we had a reservation."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "I've been dining at Hal's since it first opened in the late 1980's and it is without equal in quality, service and overall atmosphere. It serves the best steaks of any steakhouse south of Chicago and New York and the overall experience is always fantastic."

  • "My wife and I celebrated an anniversary at Hal's. The quality of service and food were excellent. The noise level was a little high, but we were seated near the bar. I would definitely return for the bone in ribeye."

  • "I have ate at restaurants all over the world...This place had IT all!!! Great seafood and mouth watering steak.....recommend whatever steak you get with shoe string onion rings and mashed potatoes which are so creamy and rich it's sinful.... Thinking of this place almost brought a tear to my eye...Delicious, Great Service and killer ambiance! Hals is the place to go in the ATL!!!"

  • "We had heard many good things about Hal's, but our experience was disappointing. We were seated at a small table, hardly large enough for 2 diners. The room was loud, and the service was indifferent at best. My wife had the duck, and it was almost inedible. My snapper with artichokes and mushrooms had a sauce that was too sour and which overpowered the flavor of the fish and the artichokes. Perhaps this was just an off night, but it was not what we expected."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary. And I must say this was the perfect atmosphere. The crowd was friendly and both the food and service were outstanding. I had the Prime bone-in ribeye and my husband had Hal's ribeye. Both were phenomenal. Perfect seasoning. The escargots were amazing as well. Then we finished off our meal with their famous bourbon bread pudding. When they say bourbon, they mean bourbon. Delish!"

  • "Food and service were very good but restaurant smells like an old bar with stale cigarette smoke. Too many tables crowded in to the space."

  • "Really great food. Happening place. Lots of people on a Saturday night. Efficient. Reservations required!"

  • "Our steaks and appetizer were excellent. The waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. Having never been there, we opted to sit downstairs, where it's a little loud, and a little cramped. My only complaint was that the service was a little too speedy. We were in and out of there in 50 minutes!"

  • " The food is always great, the service is also wonderful. I would eat here everyweekend if I could."

  • "Hal's is loud, the tables are too close together and overpriced. The food was pretty good but not great. I asked for a medium rare NY strip but it arrived rare. The Caesar salad was very good as were the mashed potatoes. The waiter was rushed and would disappear for several minutes at a time. The tables are too close together so I was bumped many times by other customers and wait staff. I was looking forward to my first vist to Hal's but probably won't return. Bones, Little Alley and Chops provide me with a better overall steak dining experience."

  • "Hals is simply the best steakhouse I have ever been to. Traveling around the US and world on business, I often target steak houses to see how they match up against Hals. Most recent test was the famous Gordon Ramsey steak in Las Vegas, without a doubt Hals is much better. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves a great steak, plentiful sides and impeccable service."

  • "We always have enjoyed Hal's...not only are their steaks excellent..if a little pricey....but their seafood dishes are also great. The bar is a great place to mingle. However..the last couple of times we have been, the noise level in the upstairs dining room was so excessive we couldnt hear a word each other said. But this time we requested to be on the upstairs porch...and it was perfect and we all had a great evening WITH conversation and great food!!"

  • "The noise in Hal's diminished any positive things I could say about the food. This was our third time there and each time was so loud that we could not talk to each other. I will leave Hal's to the group looking for love on Wednesday night!"

  • "One of the best restaurants in Atlanta. Great service and the food never fails to impress. The live music makes for an overall great experience. "

  • "Wonderful dining experience - service is superb! Christopher waited on us this time and he was extremely attentive to us. He took our drink order and promptly returned with our drinks (kudos to the bar staff as well for being quick). Quality & flavorful food w/out a long wait between each course of our meal. Great ambience and everyone was pleasant as always. "

  • "What an amazing time at Hals steak house. I enjoyed the New York strip while my girlfriend had the phenomenal filet. I told Hals it was our 1 year anniversary and the gave us a very romantic table. Overall great place for special occasions. "

  • "This is not a place to go,if you care about your health. Fat and butter is everywhere. It would be nice if there were a few more choices in the we like to eat healthy world,"
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "We had terrible service. We were at a two top and the waiter said he would just take care of us because he didn't know who was supposed to be in the area. Very unlike Hal's but left a super bad taste for us especially since the bill was $230 for two people. "

  • "Hal's slogan is "We serve the steaks others advertise". Amen. The bone in ribeye was cooked to perfection. I have never had my steak not cooked to my specifications at Hal's. The last time I was at Ruth' Chris I had to send my ribeye back because it was so overcooked. My wife's swordfish was magnificent and their creamed spinach is the best in Atlanta with Bone's being a close second.. It may be a little loud for some people, but I had no trouble having a conversation and hearing everyone at the table. I took a good friend who proclaimed that Hal's truly is the best place for a steak in Atlanta."

  • "Restaurant was very loud. They seated us downstairs next to the bar. They allow smoking at the bar and the smoke drifts back in slightly to the dining room. The bar is very loud with a piano player and singer. I have been there several times and have always sat upstairs. I should have requested upstairs dining. "

  • "Hal's is first on our list of atlanta spots to take friends and family from out of town. The food and service never disappoint and the bar scene is fun and vibrant."
