Our waiter, Scott, recommended the bone-in rib eye that is trimmed extra close. It was seasoned and grilled perfectly. My wife chose the classic filet and it almost melted in your mouth.
The service was spot on with a well trained and very experienced staff. They were personable when appropriate yet you hardly noticed they were there as they refilled your glass or cleaned/cleared the table. Scott was awesome and really took care of us.
It's a lively atmosphere with an active bar area and the tables setup close together. When the live music starts up you really feel Hal's New Orleans roots.

It has everything you want in upscale dining and is $$$ rather than $$$$. Avoid the $5 self park and use the free Valet for a tip. Live piano. It is dark but that is part of the ambiance. It gets loud and the 2-top tables are pretty small. It's okay to split an appetizer, salad, steak, sides and desserts. Apps are about $8, Hal's 20 oz Ribeye is $50. Grilled oysters were fabulous - garlicky and cheesy. Chopped salad was consistency of slaw but very good with their vinaigrette dressing. We ordered the Hal's Ribeye cooked Medium and it came out more Medium-Rare and spit onto 2 plates. Get the creamed spinach. The location, the atmosphere, and the quality of the food & beverage make Hal's a perfect place for a special occasion outing or a nice evening out. Not so good for kids, great for adults. Great taste, presentation, and quality for the food makes it worth the slightly higher prices. The service was commendable and the wait staff was very knowledgeable, personable, and timely - a great combo! The upper patio where we dined was slightly quieter and more intimate than the larger, main dining area. I recommend reservations on the weekend. Complementary valet parking for tip. ! Our res was at 9pm and they seated us immediately, the system was very well organized. We have eaten at steak houses from Chicago, to New York, to New Orleans, to Las Vegas. I must say that the filet that I had at Hal’s on Saturday night was, by far, the best flavored and prepared piece of prime beef that I have ever had the pleasure of feasting on. We had the lobster bisque, which was also incredible. Our server, Andre, was extremely polite, helpful, and knowledgeable of the menu and items. His recommendations, for us first time Hal’s diners, were spot on. We highly recommend this restaurant when in Atlanta. The food was some of the best we've had in Atlanta. Steaks cooked and seasoned to perfection. A lobster/crab appetizer that was to die for. The sea bass special was superb and even the duck that one in our party ordered was perfectly prepared. It's amazing that they could do such a variety of dishes so well.
The great food was marked by equally great service. Our waiter was extremely experienced and knowledgeable, but not haughty.
The only slight downside was the vibrant bar scene does overflow a little into the dining area-- adding some unwelcome volume and a little smoke.
