I was not thrilled about turning 40. But I asked my hubs to take me to Hall's, and that made it all better. :) Perfect filet, perfect mushrooms, insane lobster mac and cheese, and ridiculous (in a good way) bread pudding. The ambience is high energy especially at the bar, but you can settle into your own space once seated for dinner. What was memorable about this experience was the personal attention the owners and the staff given to satisfying every customer, we were made to feel like family. The owners are so very committed to providing top notch service. My husband chooses this restaurant over others for his business meetings, and there are many in Charleston. The atmosphere is very nice and on the night we ate there, they had a pianist playing the piano. The only issue for me is that the tables are close together. It was embarrassing when I tried to get around around the waiter who was waiting on the table next to me, I almost pulled the table cloth with everything on it off our table. I got the bone in filet and my husband got the bone in rib eye, both with the optional truffle butter (HIGHLY recommend adding that!). We also ordered the creamed corn side dish and the "greens salad", ALL of it was AMAZING! The salad was crunchy and perfectly portioned/good ratio of ingredients. Tasted like it was fresh picked from the garden (I know this, because my father has a garden and we eat from it frequently). I didn't know steak could TASTE this GOOD! I'm not much of a red meat eater either. Creamed corn was unlike any I've ever had (certainly not an item I'd order had it not come highly recommended)! Pricey & worth EVERY penny! We were greeted by the owners not long after walking in and sitting at the bar while waiting for others to show up.
The food was fantastic. Steaks were cooked perfectly and very tender. I've had some pretty awesome steaks from other places and Halls cuts are right up there with the big dogs! The appetizers and sides were equally tasty. Rob helped us choose a couple different bottles of wine that were perfect matches for our appetizers then entrees.
Halls is quite upscale but you feel extremely comfortable while dining. All the staff are pleasant and make you feel welcome there.

We were seated at a nice two top in a quiet corner but happened to be next to a party of eight . The staff did an excellent job of waiting in them because they had to squeeze by us the whole dinner. It was very distracting for the entire dinner. My wife's ribeye was excellent but my prime rib was dry and tough. They immediately changed it to another and it was very good
Dinner was concluded with a complimentary chocolate cake that was very good

At a nearby table of 8, when food came, there were at least 8 servers -- 4 brought meals, 2 distributed sides and 1 had condiments and 1 refilled water. While each table clearly had a main waiter and an assigned bus boy that kept glasses full, it appeared that the wait staff was assigned an area and they all pitched in. This meant that all food was served hot, drinks cold and nothing empty.
10 & 16 yr old: Food good, not weird. Lots to eat.
Food: Meat is fantastic. They know how to cook it AND season it. Portions - generous. Soups tasty. Sides served family style -- tasty. He is a foodie that loves steak so we thought it was a great choice.
When we arrived we were greeted like we were family. Every one of the Halls, and many of the staff welcomed us, and also congratulated my son on his graduation, and good luck at The Citadel next year.
Our waiter Stefan was very professional, friendly, knowledgable about the menu, and gave us superior service.

It was great! We ate downstairs near the bar and the space is great. The she crab bisque and the chooped salad were excellent (go with the half, not the whole) and I had a bone-in Kansas City Strip. The strip was a unique cut and was exactly as our waiter Justin had advertised. The only reason I am giving the food a 4-star instead of 5 was that the seasoning was a little salty for my taste. (Something that I can easily correct via request on my next visit). Not only is the staff great but the family was there and Billy Hall could not have been more welcoming and Mr. Hall checked in at our table before dessert arrived.
