One of the places my in-laws higly suggested us to go to was Haliimaile General Store. So my husband, 1 year old, in-laws and I went on our first night out. The food was delicious! My sin gobbled up the monchong and mashed potatotes whike the rest of us devoured our various different meals. He was completely entertained by ecerything hanging frim the ceilings and walls! The waitstaff was courteous. We definitely can't complain about anything. We had such a great exoerience there that it kick started our need to try all of Bev Gannon's Maui restaurants. A must on your dinning list.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Hawaiian regional foodThis was our annual visit to Maui and even though it's a drive from either Wailea or Kaanapali we almost always include a dinner at Haliimaile General Store. I love the Chi Chi's that the regular bartender, Tim, makes and will call ahead to verify he's working before booking a reservation. If you like coconut based drinks give one a try, you won't be disappointed. Dinner was excellent. I tried the hanger steak as opposed to my usual rack of lamb and was very pleased. Service was attentive but not intrusive. We prefer to sit in the front area even though it can be noisy as there's a nice breeze usually and the casual feel is great. Miles of sugar cane fields between town and this "old Hawaii" gem. The lillikoi creme brulee was the best dessert I've ever had, bought the cookbook so I can attempt it at home. This is the kind of restaurant that travelers dream of, leave your resort and have the most amazing meal of your trip.

One of our party was gluten intolerant. They provided a wonderful selection from the menu that was gluten free. No worries! No big deal. Delicious!

If you want to have a GREAT day have lunch at the Haliimaile General Store, then head to the Lavender Gardens, hit "The Surfing Goat Farm and end the day at MaMa's Fish House and you will not regret a moment of what you did that day.

The fish was cooked to absolute perfection; the sauce was exquisite; the Maui mashed sweet potatoes and veggies were all delicious. The ahi napoleon appetizer continues to be the best appetizer we've ever had. The only thing that keeps me from rating this place the highest in everything is the fact that it is in what used to be a general store and the ambience is pleasant but cannot compare to the ambience and view at Mama's Fish House and Merriman's.
